Is rampant here on Partisan Lines. So what do you think? Is it politically correct? Is it correct in any setting? Let's start with Libtard. If you have a child with "mental" issues do you call them "retarded" these days? I hope not. It goes both ways of course. Usually with people that have no real clue IMHO. Just a perceived need to insult the other. I say it is "childishly clever" at times. The biggest problem I really have with it is that it insults children everywhere when resorted to. They learn from "adults" after all. Please comment.
Some people are insulted by name-calling, some aren't. I'm not. People can call me whatever their little hearts desire. It's like water off a duck's back to me. Yes, name-calling is somewhat rampant on this forum. I don't believe any particularly obscene names have been used; mostly just fairly mild terms. However, if anyone is offended by any name-calling toward them, I think they should let the offender know. If it continues, the moderator should get involved.
If you are posting on this site, I cannot bother you too much. However, certain people here respond with total insults and make no additions to the conversation. i.e. (and these are the entire posts); BTW, that is from 2 pages of a single thread. I will let you determine the posters and it is plural.
Stick and stones will break my bones but until the internet progresses to the point a person can chunk projectiles at others it will never hurt me.
I don't find the constant name calling here to be offensive, I just find it to be tedious, unimaginative and outright boring. There may be some kinds of stimulation going on behind some of the posts here but the majority of it is not of the intellectual variety any more.
I can't say that I ever get too excited about the common practice of name calling. It's how I know that I have struck a nerve and won the argument. Personal attacks serve the same purpose. Changing the subject tells me the same thing. You have read between the partisanlines here.
This is Partisan Lines and this is the way it is. Maybe there was once a golden age here when people were civil, respected the opposition, and had discussions rather than flame wars although I think it was probably before my time. The attitudes expressed on Partisan Lines are I think a pretty accurate reflection of the political and cultural situation in the country as a whole. America is kind of like a bad marriage. Very broadly speaking, there are two sides that don't really like or trust each other anymore (if they ever did) but most of the time both sides perceive enough benefit in the relationship to restrain themselves and compromise on or paper over their differences. Up until recently anyway. Brute force or common enemies has brought about reconciliation of a sort before. Hard to say what if anything might come along to save us now.
BINGO!!! I do see it as somewhat of a problem though Stu because it's obviously not just limited to this forum. As a nation we seem to becoming "tedious, unimaginative and outright boring". Might as well be on the playground shouting "I know you are but what am I?" or "my dad can beat up your dad". Except we're supposedly adults hence my comment about an insult to children everywhere.
