I'll give Obama some credit here, however could you at the minimum, be glad that President Trump did not increase unemployment again? Obama built the momentum while Trump kept it going, I think there is equal credit to both Presidents. P.S I have confirmed this chart with my own research. Its true!
This truly confounds me. Not that I doubt the chart. I readily admit that I don’t research these things. My comments are almost always based on my gut reaction. I have a good grip on the state of the economy. I have to so I can forecast my company’s future. I don’t disregard this, but it certainly isn’t what I would have believed.
I'm glad that he and the GOP have passed no legislation that messed up the economy to the point that Republicans retroactively blame Obama for high unemployment. That is kind of equal credit. But then I remember what kind of economy Obama inherited from Bush and I think, well, there is still time. Ask soy bean farmers if they are happy with the GOP and Trump.
During the Obama administration, Trump regularly claimed that the government unemployment statistics were false, and that unemployment was much higher than they showed. By one count, he made that claim at least 19 times before he became president (source: The Washington Post, with quotes and links). He even had Sean Spicer stand in front of the press and say, referring to unemployment statistics, "I talked to the president prior to this, and he said to quote him very clearly: 'They may have been phony in the past, but it’s very real now.'" Now that Trump is in office, he's pleased to point to government unemployment statistics.
I wasn't just Trump saying it. The entire GOP field was saying it. Suddenly, even though the methodology of calculating the unemployment figures has not changed at all, and there was no adjustment whatsoever when the new administration took power, the unemployment numbers are now accurate for some reason. Kind of makes you wonder if they may have been lying all along just to get elected?
I know that all politicians lie. I consider it my responsibility to not take them at their word. If I do take them at their word, I deserve to be the victim of their lies. I can no longer blame them for lying if it works.
