Internet confused why Trump invited My Pillow owner to public health briefing: ‘Tell me this is a prank’

When President Donald Trump took the podium to deliver his daily press briefing on the coronavirus pandemic, one of the businessmen pledging to help make masks was an unusual choice: Mike Lindell, the founder and CEO of My Pillow.

It is unclear why Lindell, a frequent Fox News advertiser and Trump supporter who has faced a series of lawsuits over deceptive marketing and unsupported health claims for his product, would be a key fighter in the epidemic — and commenters on social media promptly weighed in.

Didn't I hear that this man (who is a former addict that turned his life around) changed his very successful manufacturing facility into a mask producing facility? Something to be said about a fellow that changes his income stream into a facility to help the war on Covid-19. And right now more than ever, Americans do need to see hear positive PR. People are scared. They need to hear that regular people are stepping up to the plate to help and his is a familiar face.

What is you solution, Frydaddy? Should we have the government do everything? I thought you said that Bernie Sanders was "too radical." You have said that you are not a socialist, yet you post like one constantly.

Trump has enlisted the private sector, and many of them have stepped up in important ways. When companies like GM, dragged their feet, Trump used the Defense Act against them.

Why can’t you be more positive? Why do have to criticize everyone, who does not agree with you, when they step up to fight this? I can’t understand you at all, except in the context that you think there are political points to be won.

Here’s some news for you. All you are doing to peaching to the noisy minority of people like you who don’t have anything but partisan hate in their hearts.

    It is kind remarkable.

Plenty of distorted religious, political and selfishly personal nationalism to go around these days, isn't there?..... I might suggest this reverend read my favorite passage of scripture before he blathers on again..

You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.

When has Rev. Barber been accused of public idolatry?

Then perhaps this one would be more appropriate, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone"...... I am just sick to death of people that have a platform preaching hate and divisiveness. If this man is a Christian reverend then he knows that his message is nothing but a bomb thrown into a forest fire. The man should be ashamed.

I just did a quick search on the reverend Barber. A Protestant minister and political activist. These are absolutely mutually exclusive interests. If he called himself a protestant gigolo drug dealer he may be more believable..... This man is a mouth with a platform and an opinion. Nothing more.

I've seen Rev. Barber interviewed many, many times. He is the leader of the Moral Monday initiative which takes on poverty and race.

I may have told you before that I am no fan of religion. I spent most of my early life in private religious schooling. These days, I have an equal opinion of all flavors of religion. I don't see any real differences between them. But I respect what some people try to do in the name of religion but not most of them. Rev. Barber is one of the good ones.

Dismissing him as just someone with a mouth and a microphone because you disagree with his interpretation of what God wants us to do is no different than me dismissing your religious views because I disagree with your interpretation of what God wants us to do. Your only choice in this situation is either accept Rev. Barber's interpretation or acknowledge that the people that disagree with your religious views have a point.

Tangled web we weave isn't it? Now you know why I dismiss all religious dogma. It is all inherently fraught with hypocrisy.

Well put. I do hear you. I happen to believe that the message of Christianity is one of mercy, grace and forgiveness. And I just do not see any room in that message for political activism.

Only because he agrees with you ...

Joe and I have similar views on religion as has been shown in a couple of posts. I believe that there is a Higher Being that created universe, but I don't have a lot time to listen to most of the those who say they know him or her and claim that they know "the true path." I generally agree with Thomas Jefferson that a Higher Being created the universe and then wound it up like a clock and left it running.

The vast majority of what that Higher Being created is good, but sometimes it goes terribly wrong. Some of what goes wrong is due to man’s own doing. I think this virus is one of those things. The Chinese ate or inhaled some stupid stuff, and the rest of us are paying for it. Other things, like tornados and hurricanes, are flaws in the system so far as man is concerned, but in the grand scheme of things, they are Mother Nature tearing up stuff so that it can be renewed.

In the 1960s comedian, Lenny Bruce once had a bit called "Religion Incorporated." It was mainly about the hypocrisy of Catholic Church, but the message was the same. “Pass the collection plate and don’t put anything in there that jingles.”

Lenny got into a lot trouble when he spoke the truth about the Catholic Church, but their constant problems with pedophilia are an outgrowth of their ridiculous system. It’s been shown time and time again that cutting off a person’s sex life usually leads to psychological problems. Yet the church never learns. Priestly celibacy remains.

My parents were very religious people, but they didn’t have much time evangelists. My mother used to say they would come into a local church, grab up a bunch of money that would have helped local congregation and leave town. When my father watched them on TV, he would wait for the moment they would ask for contributions. He was seldom disappointed.

This week Franklin Graham, who keeping the family business up and running, ran an ad on TV about the problems we are now facing. I was expecting a healing, soothing message, but I was disappointed. What I heard was softly spoken admonishment about how we all need to fall on our knees and pray to God and Jesus in submission. He then gave out the number of some phone bank he’s running which would give callers some more of his message.

How long do you think it take the person who answers that phone come around with the REAL MESSAGE? “Brother can you spare a dime for the cause?” Except they don’t want any dimes. It will be dollars and lots of them. Such is the state of Religion Incorporated.

Now that I’ve probably PO’d everybody, I’ll wish you a good evening. At least I got that off my chest.

I get it. Everyone is turned off about the business of church. When I wake up at 2am and hear the guy on TV selling his bottles of holy water, I want to throw bricks at my TV.

Here’s the deal. Ever turned on the academy awards only to be bombarded by each actor/ actress political speech? Ever go to a rock & roll show for a bit of leisure to be bombarded by the musicians environmental stance? Sure you have. And each and every one of you do the same as me. Roll your eyes in disgust. I don’t care about James Taylor’s politics. Just play me a song..... Yes I do attend my church and am actively involved in its work. If my pastor starts preaching politics from the pulpit, this man is walking out. Everyone has an opinion. Mine is no more or no less important than anyone else’s. I run a business. You can bet none of my clients know a darned thing about my politics.

This, of all times, is not the time for churches to be looking for money. They should be giving comfort. Franklin Graham’s ad really ticked me off.

I get it. And I don’t judge you for that. I prefer to see the hundreds of hospital beds and critical medical care that money supports that neither you nor I could have done single handedly. I prefer to see it in the new playground and little league fields that my church opened for community use that is a safe place for all the kids in the neighborhood....... I do seriously get it. And fact is that money has likely been the most abused area of the church over the years. I readily concede that. But I submit to you that the monies the Reverend Graham is asking for is in fact providing comfort for many in a time when it is most urgently needed.

MyPillow Lays Off 150 Workers After Praising Trump’s Tax Cuts, ‘Booming Economy’
The brand’s CEO, Mike Lindell, penned an op-ed last year where he claimed “Trump is winning” for Minnesotans. Now, he’s laying off employees for a new business venture.

MyPillow, one of the few remaining advertisers frequently featured on Tucker Carlson’s Fox News show, is laying off more than 100 employees not even a year after the company’s founder praised President Donald Trump for creating a “booming economy.”

In a statement to HuffPost, Mike Lindell, inventor and CEO of MyPillow, told us via email that he’s in the process of launching an “online store for entrepreneurs and inventors to sell their products.”

“As we prepare for the launch of MyStore.com, we are changing the layout of our Shakopee [Minnesota] factories so the fulfillment and shipping of all MyStore products can happen here,” he says, before adding that the “new direction” means layoffs for about 150 employees.

Businesses are scrambling to state afloat. If the virus doesn’t kill or lay their workers low, the economic reality of having enough money in the bank to pay them does. The Federal Government is trying to get money to them, but it takes time as was said Trump’s press conference yesterday.

Since you have never run a business or even done the accounting for one, that concept is probably foreign to you, Frydaddy. You think that you have infinite resources when you own a business. You don’t. It can all go to hell really fast.

If you don’t believe me, look at what’s happening to stock market. I’ve taken bigger paper losses in the past two weeks than the amount of money most people earn in a lifetime. I can also tell you one of the best known retailers in this country might go under because of this. These are scary time for all of us.

The thought of not meeting payroll is the heaviest burden I have ever carried. I have stayed sick to my stomach for weeks now. And it isn't getting better. I wish I could force myself to think selfishly as is popular 21st century culture and not have to worry about these folks that rely on the paychecks my place provides.

There just is no work out there right now. It wouldn't matter if you had all the money in the world, product isn't selling. I am in a recession proof business. I can work from home if I have to. Others, many others, are not so fortunate. The people hit the hardest are low-skill, low-wage workers. But that is hardly a revelation. They are always hurt the most in any bad economy.
