Any thoughts on the city's recent hatred for the military? Blaming their recent denial of the Marines request for an ad shoot, on traffic, seems ridiculous. The streets of San Francisco have been used for decades to film movies, tv shows and commercials. Did any of these not have an effect on traffic?
I lived there for 5 years and I have to say that if you knew the people that make up San Francisco you would understand why the powers that be would deny this request. It just isn't in their best interests to piss off their constituents any more than it would be for the mayor of Dallas Texas to try and bring the National Gay Rodeo Clowns convention to the city during his re-election campaign. You gotta go with the people that keep you in office not those that wouldn't even consider voting for you in a one candidate race. Such is politics.
Strangly enough I can understand what Moen is saying here I might not agree with the reasons that the City gave but I can understand why. On the other hand a lot of the citizens of SF would love to love Soldiers & Sailors just not the service they represent LOL
I'm more than sure Moen is right on the reasoning behind the denial of the permit, but there is a lot more going on with this mayor than you would expect. Garvin Newsom is a political hack of old Willie Brown, and follows the party line right down to the last period. He is also the guy who has pledged to make San Fran a sanctuary for illegal immigrants. Right now he is too busy pouring booze down his 20 year old squeeze, Brittanie Mountz to making any more decisions about anything. The guy is a sleeze, that is all there is too it.
I didn't know that Danr, but I guess it made you mad when they turned you and your friends down the last time you wanted to march!
Mahmoud said the other day "there are no homosexuals in Iran" Maybe they'd like to have some of their own. Perhaps we could round up the inhabitants of San Fran and send them over as a peace offering. I'm sure they could have a nice gay pride parade there.
Excellent idea, I'll bet that Danr and his friends put in for permission to go to Iran. The more I think about this the better I like it.
I think Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's attitude represents the extreme denial of reality a country can reach by pretending that something doesn't exist. Your idea is tantamount to "rounding up" all the Jews in this country and sending them to Iran. Or all the blacks, or all the red necks, or all the Presbyterians, or all the....well you get the idea. We don't have to agree with our enemies or those countries that oppose us but neither do we have to resort to Fascist ideas to become the equals of oppressive regimes and psychos like Ahmadinejad. Heres hoping that you were just making an insensitive joke at an already discriminated against group and that you really wouldn't consider such a draconian measure in reality.
Getting back to the original post I think the "Gay Factor" was behind the (I suspect he's bisexual) Mayor's decision not to allow this and other military related functions in the city. The majority of gay/homosexuals are Democrats and this is simply their way of slapping the Republicans in the face.
I don't know if there was any "gay reason" behind the decision or not but I would bet that gays are overwhelmingly Democrats because they aren't exactly welcomed by the Republican party as aren't the African Americans as the top 4 Republican contenders proved this week by all managing to have "other previous commitments" scheduled during a black organization sponsored debate. What are the odds just the top 4 ALL had previous commitments that couldn't be changed? By valuing some Americans over others the Republican party is digging it's own grave. And we aren't talking small groups here either. I mean you might be able to snub the the one-eyed dwarf shriners debate and not worry too much but blacks are like 12% of the population.
You were making valid points until you began fantasizing... See bold areas. Remember, it is Hispanic Heritage Month.
I understand that you being a Republican might not see it as I do but it is hard to argue that the Republican party has done everything they could to make sure gays aren't treated as equally as heterosexuals in the areas of marriage, adoption, insurance discrimination, and just about every other aspect of American life we heterosexuals take for granted. I guess you could argue it but then it would be you engaging in fantasizing. If you don't value all Americans rights regardless of sexual preference then you are engaging in preferential treatment for other groups like for example heterosexuals. When you don't bother to attend either black or Hispanic debate forums (Republicans have skipped both) because of pretty convenient and rather lame excuses, it isn't fantasizing in any way to speculate that Republicans are only hurting their own party by reinforcing the perception that they don't care about blacks, Hispanics, and gays. Maybe you can let me know just how it is that I am fantasizing when so many of my observations have come from actual recent events. I'm listening buddy.
^^^You have no idea how I regard Gays and Bisexuals or how I vote for that matter. It's clear that any organized function or meeting which supports the United States of America and instills National Pride drives up you're blood pressure so just look the other way when public displays like these are held irregardless of sexual orientation. I suspect you'd only come out of the woodwork if they were throwing money your direction or wearing pink. Notice I said NATIONAL Pride, because I don't give a rat's ass if the Gay Nazis or the KKK Herford Cattle Owners hold a parade in town, you wouldn't see me there, just like 90% of other true Red Blooded Americans who rally behind one flag and support the nation at all times. No matter who's carrying the flagpole. Remember these words, "Attendance is directly proportional to support so..." I look at the nation like it's a child, even if she makes mistakes and gets hurt I still love her and would die for her.
I don't know what it was that I said that pushed your button but I was talking about the Republican party, not you in particular. I said you being a Republican you might not see things as I see them and only then proceeded to talk about the Republican party i.e. platform. I also have no idea of what "...organized function or meeting which supports the United States of America and instills National Pride..." you are referring to. Your next statement is just a simple attempt to insult me, "I suspect you'd only come out of the woodwork if they were throwing money your direction or wearing pink." for reasons of your own. And you just go on after that with your opinion of things without much relevance to what I had written. So all I can say is calm down and relax. You've veered off in a direction I can't follow.
^^^ Moen, I'm simply staying on topic with the original post. Here is one of your not too subtle insults. Knowing full well that I'm both a Mason and a Shriner from earlier discussions you slyly typed, I simply responded in (sarcasticly yes) kind. Now since the thread topic was about the city of San Francisco denying the USMC request to shoot a recruitment ad, I think my post about certain factions with not so hidden political agendas deliberately disrupting motivational functions designed to instill National Pride and esprit de corps was infact SPOT-ON. Take Care Ben
