Well.... If everyone begins their career at the top there won't be anyone around to do the work.... Oh wait.... I think that has happened already....
What's incredibly mind-numbing is the failure of progressives to recognize that raising the minimum wage raises the living wage. I don't think linking effect back to cause ever was their strong suit.
I'm aware, but that in turn admits that the system is set up in such a way that it is unable to make everyone able to support themselves. It necessitates losers.
I think what escapes so many is that there is no “system” per se. The “system” is Mother Nature. By limiting their effort, their initiative and / or their commitment to improvement, those at the bottom rung of the ladder limit their own ascension. That is something only they can change.
But if everyone ascended and made enough to support themselves comfortably, aren't you saying inflation would then drive the prices up, no longer allowing those near the bottom to support themselves without ascending further?
I think you are forgetting that money is merely a representation of productivity. The value of money is manipulated, and is not the constant, whereas the value of productivity is. That the extra hour’s gathered firewood warms my family more than my neighbor’s, but my neighbor is away from his family one hour less, albeit colder, begs the question . . . Which of us is better off? . . . Who decides?
I see what you're saying, but we need productivity to scale to value in money because we aren't in a society where we can live off pure productivity anymore. I can't keep a family warm gathering firewood, I need to pay bills for heating. For better or worse, we've already disentangled productivity from survival to a large degree, it's tied to money. For the most part in my mind, that's great! It means it's no longer a death sentence to be unable to gather firewood, for whatever reason. So then we have to ask some questions. How do you measure productivity in modern society? How do you translate that into money value? If someone works hard and contributes honestly, does that mean they should be able to survive comfortably? If everyone works hard and contributes honestly, should everyone be able to survive comfortably? It seems inflation and our economic system make the final question impossible, precisely because the value of money is manipulated and not constant. The end result is that each of us must accept that if we are doing well, it's only possible under our system because others are not.
I'm completely at odds with your claim that we cannot live off pure productivity. Quite the opposite . . . we cannot live without pure productivity. Inflation very simply illustrates consumer's realization that they value having more money less than they value having the same product they used to pay less money for. As much money as you can convince governments across the world to print, the human race cannot live on into the future without productivity. Governments could circulate currency enough to cover the entire planet in stacks 6 feet high and, if no one does any work, the human race perishes. On the other hand, if no money existed at all, and everyone worked, the human race would thrive. Those who believe in the saying, "money makes the world go round" are ignorant. It is work that perpetuates the human existence. All that money does is facilitate the transfer of productivity across and around physical and temporal and perceived obstacles. If you increase the amount of money in circulation, and do not increase productivity correspondingly, then the money is necessarily worth less to both those who produce and to those who consume. Worse yet, the realization that more money represents less work undermines confidence in money as a store of value, and incentivizes barter in lieu of monetary transactions, and ultimately affects the ability to fairly tax what has been produced / consumed. The vast majority of "thinkers" and policymakers are surprisingly unaware that their actions will starve the government of inflation-adjusted tax revenue, and their constituents of product, rather than providing more. The very idea that we've "disentangled productivity from survival" illustrates just how much you have to learn. As long as leftists are your teachers, your education will always be largely incomplete.
If you have been watching the leftist media meltdown….. courtesy Babylon Bee: “CANAAN—In a somber press release outside the burning gates of torment and suffering, the fire god Moloch warned of looming supply chain issues regarding child sacrifices. Moloch added that human sacrifices, purifications, ordeals by fire, mutilations, etc., would cease until the supply chain shortages were sorted out through democratically violent means. Moloch added that human sacrifices, purifications, ordeals by fire, mutilations, etc., would cease until the supply chain shortages were sorted out through democratically violent means. "My demon logistics department is reporting a supply chain shortage of children to sacrifice upon burning idols and in fiery pits," said the god of brazen gratification and hedonism. "The scarcity of innocent young lives to be brutally murdered at my feet is mostly due to the US Supreme Court's upcoming reversal of Roe v. Wade, led by white supremacist Clarence Thomas." An uncomfortably large percentage of the US population cried out in fear and terror at the prospects of not being able to sacrifice children of a loving Heavenly Father for their own, selfish desires. Eyes rolled back in their sockets and blood-curdling screams pierced the air in the name of egomaniacal convenience. "What about my career as a corporate drone who loves binge-drinking on the weekends!" cried one woman at the steps of the Supreme Court building while holding a protest sign reading "My Body, My Choice, My Vanity, My Career, My Parties, My Barren, Loveless Life." At publishing time, Moloch was considering the allowance of back alley child sacrifices using common household objects and horse medication.“
I got one too, from the other side. Hard Drive, usually video game/tech satire website. Supreme Court Restricts Abortion to Anyone Who Can Complete ‘The Gauntlet’ WASHINGTON — In a shocking unanimous decision today, the Supreme Court of the United States voted to permanently restrict abortion to any brave soul that could complete their ‘Death Gauntlet’ obstacle course. “If women want to have their necessary healthcare, they are going to have to earn it in The Gauntlet, just as our Founding Fathers would have wanted it,” Justice Samuel Alito said while lighting a ceremonial torch. “First, they must pass through the Spiked Walls of Kavanaugh, on through the perilous snake pit, defeat the Eagle of Truth, and then choose to either row or wade through the fabled waters of fetus’ past.” The unprecedented decision has caused upset among American women, despite the fact that the SCOTUS has the right to create any gladiatorial death competitions for legislature according to the Constitution. “I don’t believe the Supreme Court should be choosing what women do with their bodies, especially if what they do is race against the clock in a medieval death run,” said women’s rights advocate Megan Mueller. “By invoking The Gauntlet, they aren’t really preventing abortions, just ensuring that women will travel to unsafe, back-alley obstacle courses in Mexico or Canada. Our lawmakers always used to make us jump through hoops to get medical treatments, but now the hoops are literal and on fire.” At press time, sources noted that despite The Gauntlet’s murderous obstacles, it was still far easier than getting any form of healthcare in Texas. https://hard-drive.net/supreme-court-restricts-abortion-to-anyone-who-can-complete-the-gauntlet/
