Science is limited to our perception, our technology and our ability to be objective. Science is not an exact and like faith has a degree of faith. Heck the entire Scientific Method is limited to our perceptions and technology.

So the proof I offer is good enough for me for the reasons I stated do exist and leads me to the belief that G-d exists.

Here is something. An extremely large portion of the earth's population who have chosen to believe that they and the entire universe DID NOT JUST HAPPEN and evolve, recently celebrated the birth of the Son of God.

 

Belief in science takes a measure of faith. Case in point, Covid. The science portrayed to the populace was is if you wear a mask and take the vaccine, you won’t contract Covid or spread it. That proved to be false and then science changed (just like global warming) and we have progressed to today. The devout believers (ya know, the militant religious science folks that worship Fauci) are still diapering their faces, getting jabs, and are still getting infected and spreading the virus. I will believe and adhere to the 10 commandments before I worship government officials. Science has made great strides in the betterment of mankind, but only if it is achieved through humility.

 

The science never said that. It's always been about risk reduction, which is true. No science ever claimed there was a silver bullet.

It's been misrepresented that way so that people can attack a strawman, but vaccines still work and so do masks.

 

Show data that proves masks work. Ya boy said “ if you get the vaccine you won’t get coronavirus and won’t transmit it”. Now show us the proof that an unvaccinated person that died with or from COVID wouldn’t have died if they got the vaccine.

I can show on a population level those who are vaccinated die at lower rates than unvaccinated people. Is that what you're asking for?

 

The virus scandal did many things. For now, I will post one.

First part is true, second (red) part is wrong. Standard surgical masks have some efficacy. KF94 masks, also very cheap, actually have very good efficacy. I still use the KF94s in everyday life.

The way a vaccine works is that it trains your immune system to attack a foreign particle with a specific molecular shape. However, your immune system still has to do the fighting leading to some shortcomings. If you are immunocompromised (perhaps due to cancer treatment for example), it doesn't matter how well trained your immune system is, it won't fight off invaders as well before they replicate and overwhelm the system.

Even in those with healthy immune systems, if enough foreign particles enter before the immune system reacts effectively, it can overwhelm the body and a breakthrough infection occurs.

Of note, in the early days of the polio vaccination, there were many breakthrough infections. This is because people were being exposed to it with such frequency. Polio is all but eliminated now because we have such a high vaccine compliance, meaning the viral particles are virtually never in high enough concentration to take hold in the bodies of healthy immune systems vaccinated against it.

There are other factors which make covid tougher to contain than polio (high replication rate, virulence, mutations) but the fact remains that the main reason the polio vaccine works so well is because so many people are vaccinated for it.

To conclude, the definition of vaccine hasn't changed, you've just misunderstood it.

As I wrote above, you and I know this. Thanks for your thoughtful post with your explanation related to COVID which is not all over the Internet.

My "misunderstanding" comes from members of the medical community who try to simplify the field of medicine for simple folks such as myself. Therefore, I'll continue to be a pig-headed, dunce. If a vaccine does not prevent something in virtually every case, I will not consider it a "true" vaccine although it fits the correct definition.
