So Define Diversity

My wife is in a leadership position at a university. One of her current tasks is hiring a supervisory position. One of the steps she has to take is to assemble a panel to interview applicants. She is keenly aware that this panel must represent diversity…. Her panel is herself, an Asian American man and a transgender woman…. That selection was forwarded to her HR department for approval and they rejected the selections…. For a lack of diversity!!! Really?!?!?! This afternoon she asked the question directly, “Are you saying I must have an African American on my panel?” They answered directly, “yes”…. Now my wife has drawn a line in the sand. Her panel was specifically selected because they are the most intimately involved with this supervisory position. She has African American staff, but they aren’t remotely involved with that part of the organization.. Rather like going to the dermatologist for your toothache…… This is just ridiculous and what’s worse is I know how stubborn my wife is. Life around here will suck until this is resolved….. I have never seen a more blatant case of reverse discrimination in my life. We better get our heads screwed on straight before we muck things up so far that they become irreparable.

I completely agree with your wife MD.

Those on the panel interviewing applicants for this position should be intimately familiar with the requirements of the job over all other qualifications, and most especially over window-dressing. The color of one's skin is absolutely not essential to deciding whether a candidate is qualified or not.

She has already gone the extra mile for the university to recommend a blend of technical expertise and no "pasty-old-white-males". Enough is enough.

Just have your wife tell them that she identifies as African-American (it’s true… we all came from Africa) and presto and TA-DA! Problem solved.

You cannot beat them so find a Black Republican who attends a church service of some kind.

As for this comment: "We better get our heads screwed on straight before we muck things up so far that they become irreparable."

Unfortunately, it is already too late. :( We've lost our country.

I disagree. Reality check: We have lost control of our food industry, the dollar is not going to be the "world" currency, we are crushed by a debt + interest, the government is out of control - pushing the collapse of the USA as far into the future as possible. Lots of young Americans hate this country and hate their sex. The American work ethic is gone. We have turned away from the God of our founders and will reap more of His wrath. If we are attacked, WE WILL UNITE. It will be too late due to a language barrier and all the embedded "cells" waiting to blow up everything. We will all go down together - fighting.

I may sometimes be skeptical of the future, but not to this extent.

Diversity. How about finding someone who is competent from any background. That would be diverse.

Sadly, that makes too much practical sense.

That's the progressive's word, so just stop. Stop it. Stop abusing the progressive's word!

And the conservative word is “competent”. We don’t see color nor care about sexuality, only character and ability.
