do people really need that much money??? and if so why are we giving it to pro athletes and actors,ect ?? how are their contributions to society more valuable then a doctors,police or firemen?? When it really boils down to it there contributions are minimal we really need to rethink this whole idea.
Their only contribution is that they make money for other people. So, it is those people that you should go after?
they don't need to be gone after lol we just need to get better priorities. Because owning a 75 million dollar home is not justifiable when people around the world can't afford food to eat. There was an interesting note on a website i'll see if i can find it reguarding the US spenind on this war. Something like they could have fed everysingle person on the planet a good meal for a year or something like that. just think of the money you would save and how grateful the rest of the world would be. say you spend a mere 100 a week on food. thats an extra 5,200 in your pocket sounds pretty good eh. It also could have paid for a few years of schooling for alot of children and young adults. ah wells
First of all, these folks earn the money, it isn't given to them...why hate them for it? They are able to do something better than anyone else can so their particular talents are in great demand. A $75m house? It's their money so they can do whatever they want with it. No one has the right to confiscate someone else's wealth and re-distribute it to the less-talented, less-motivated or even the less-lucky. You should focus less on the "have's" and more on the "have nots". What put them in the position they are ? What could/should they have done better? And is a hand out going to fix their lot in life or is it merely going to get them addicted to a hand out? Have you heard the old saying..."Give a man a fish & he eats for a day; Teach a man to fish & he eats for a lifetime"??
yes I have heard that quote but if we did put that money into schooling alot of other people might actually be able to find work and get a job. Theres alot of people that would love to be able to go to colleges and universitys but are limited by the financial situation there in. And Im not saying confiscate the wealth either just tone it down. Instead of paying these athletes 50-100million why can they not be happy with just 2-3? thats more then you'd ever need to supply urself with food, shelter, and alot moe luxuries then the normal person. As for the have nots alot of them are poor because there stuck in the poverty cycle in which the family starts out poor they might work their butt of at a low end job but when their children grow up they cannot afford to send them to school so they get stuck doing similar low end paying jobs. If they were given the funding to actually push themselves out there might be alot less people in poverty. Thats not to say everyone would use it properly but hey atleast you had the chance
Let us not forget the amount of money Limbaugh gives to charity every year, it is well into the millions. Just google " Harry Reid Letter " for beginners...... Also, that amount of payment is a direct reflection of the revenue the Limbaugh program generates, and the 20,000,000+ listeners he has. Unlike NPR ( which requires government subsidies to stay above water ) and liberal/non conservative formats which have all failed and resulted in bankruptcy, the EIB network is a stand alone result of hard work and achieving the American dream. Lets not take away the incentive, nor switch to a " as needed " limitation on the rewards America can deliver. We as a country are already the most cheritable nation on the planet. Should cops, firefighters etc etc make more money? You bet !!!!!! He is paid $400,000,000 because he is WORTH $400,000,000 a year. He has earned it. Yeahhhhh America !!!!!
I do not believe poverty begets poverty...people have more control over their lot in life than you seem to want to give them credit for! Again, why should someone who is capable of earning $100m want to settle for $3m? If you took my money away because you felt I made too much or someone else had too little what would happen? For one, I would probably look at other alternatives...different line of work, maybe move someplace that wouldn't take my money, maybe not work quite so hard since I wouldn't be rewarded at the same level...you see? I'm guessing that you are a relative youngster so you haven't had these real world experinces yet. But wait!! If Obama gets elected you will see first-hand how this mentality will ruin the country. As I've said before, not everyone can ride in the wagon- some have to pull...if you take motivation away from those that pull, what do you have left? A bunch of riders with no direction, skills or motivation. Sean Hannity did a piece a couple of weeks ago that I wish I was able to record. It went something like this: Follow these simple rules & you are guaranteed to find success! 1) Go to school every day & study harder than your classmates 2) Work harder than your co-workers 3) Don't commit any crimes 4) Don't have children until you are ready to care & provide for them 5) Involve yourself with community activities, church activities, politics & volunteerism 6) Do what's right, don't take the easy road I wish I could remember them all...the bottom line is no matter how tough you have it it is still practical to follow these principles.
I would submit that most successful people have followed this path. As for Obama, if he would use his life experience as a positive if may just help him but he prefers to keep the lower socio-economic groups down by pushing freebies & handouts. Just one more example of his hypocrisy!!
So you dont believe that bright people should possibly be given a little helping hand in life? You are happy to see society become more medioca as long as they can pay there own way LOL I am glad that not everyone is as self centerd as you are, there are bright people out there who thanks to circumstances quite often beyond there control can not progress in life without a bit of help, sure you can get a low paid job to help you through collage etc but what if you are the sole earner for a family? If you dont want American society to stagnate then you have to help people, how long ago was it you put yourself through collage? and how has the job market changed since then
Add to the list: avoid being close friends with admitted terrorist bombers avoid joining racist churches avoid shady real estate deals with convicted felons avoid spouses that hate America etc etc
So you disagree that being responsible, doing the right things & making good decisions is not a good path to follow?? You'll just never get it, will you? The country will stagnate when the incentives to do better are taken away or when failure is subsidized.
If you fail to provide a workforce that is competant and literate then the country will stagnate, that is what you fail to understand. If you do not engourage and help the brightest of your youth because you are worried about giving them a few buck it will not only rob them of a possible bright and fullfing future but you might well loose a great pool of potential. What you forget is that in the long run it is better to get people into meaningful employment as that benifits the entire country, rather than seeing them doing nothing and drifting into crime for money. If a child is seen to have potential that child should be encouraged in every way regardless of his families ability to pay for the education, the benifits outweigh the negatives immensly. Your children are the future of your country so try nutering them for a change. How many children get sports scholerships compared to those that get academic scholerships? Ps no I dont believe that I said that anywhere, I said you need to support the Brigh kids, by doing that you will be taking responsibility for the future of your country and possibly mankind itself, that to me is doing the right thing. You are the one who reckons if they cant pay for it themselfs then they shoudnt get it.
So you don't agree that working harder & studying harder will put someone in a position to succeed? Maybe those that study harder will get the academic scholarships...those that work harder may be able to earn enough money that they can pay as they go. This doesn't sound reasonable to you? Remember that this debate started because DarkFenix didn't understand why individual wealth shouldn't be confiscated & redistributed.
Again David you try to twist peoples words, I said that if you have a poor but bright child then they should be encouraged and given finacial aid to reach there full potential, you disagreed with that, I never said that thy shoudnt work hard or study hard, now if you think I did then show me where I said it? As for DF in his initial post he did not say that the wealth should be confiscated and redistributed he asked shoudnt fiermen etc be better paid and why athleats etc got so much money for doing so little, a rather big difference to what you say he said. As for the topic starter that was Jack and his link to a broadcaster earning some large amount of money. I will ask you who contributes more to society a student who will become a chemist or a student who will become a running back or a catcher?
