In case you hadn't noticed, I have been MIA for the past couple of weeks.

Right before Christmas I left my job at the bank (voluntarily I should add) and spent the last 2 weeks on our farm in Kentucky. Ahhhh, country living - you can't beat it. We attended Christmas Mass at the small local church tht was bulit in the late 1700's, caught up on the news & hung out at the country store and worked on converting an old barn into a livable cabin.
I've gotta admit, walking away from corporate America & that rat race lifted a huge burden off my shoulders...I feel 20 years younger!!

Good for you, I hope that the stress stays off (Nothing worse than stress) we spent ours with the Mrs recovering from a very bad case of the flu :(

I hear ya David , i ran a electronics company in Scotland..never had a holiday in my 25 years doing that , 7 days a week stuff.Christmas day i always had off but was back on duty by 8pm for the onslaught of tech support calls.
It was my own business and i couldnt ask staff to work Christmas..somebody had to be there.
Last year i shut the doors for the last time , id had enough. All those years id promised myself early retirement in the USA.
Most of my first year here was road trips , sunbathed on South Beach Miami in mid febuary , ate southern food in the deep south , visited a hooters bar , got to say i had a great first year.
I miss Scotland every day but ive been down the missing home road before , im wise to it and have no plans to return.
By Christmas 2009 i hope to have seen Alaska , cant beat a good road trip.

Thanks Craig , i dont exactly know why i want to see Alaska , i guess because its one of the last great true wildernesses.
I would love to see Yellowstone , if i make it to Alaska i will have seen Yellowstone and so much more.
My idea is to use the old lincoln highway.

Can i ask which part of Scotland you visited ? I lived in lanarkshire , over a decade in the city , Glasgow. My family are scattered around Scotland , East lothian , Lanarkshire , Bathgate.
I loved the isles most of all and spent a day there when i could , easy from Glasgow with its seaport.
