Prince Harrys remark I dont suppose many Americans will fully understand this , one really needs to have resided in the UK for a length of time to realise how petty this is. He is alledgedly been overheard speaking to another soldier and the term "paki" was used.The actual quote was "our paki chum". The Pakistanis are demanding apologies and accusing the Royal family of being racist. Most British people are saying this is England and if you dont like it theres a flight out every hour. I grew up with these people and always found them hard working and honest , the new generation seems set on making Britain a muslim state, changing laws to suit and indeed asking for Islamic laws to apply to them. The term paki has never to my knowledge been hateful as the media present it.Everybody refered to the local corner store as the pakis , its been that way for at least 30 years i can swear to. Its exactly like calling an American a Yank , or a British person a Brit , theres nothing hateful about it. A Glaswegian is a weegie , a person from Newcastle is a Geordie , liverpudlian is a Scouser and so on , every area has its nickname , its one more instance of what is wrong with these people.Playing the race card to the max. I wish to God the British would get off thier knees and quit pandering to these types.Its Great Britain for crying out loud , is this what our forefathers fought and died for? For this PC generation to hand these people new laws and rights that an englishman never has,its sickening. I wouldnt apologise id have the complainer on the next boat back to pakistan , give the ******* something to whine about. Over here people are quite likely to call anyone from the sub continant a Paki regardless of were they are actualy from (India/Sri-lanka etc) and for the most part it is used unthinkingly but it certainly can be used in a racist context The OP says that every area has its nickname this is quite right but perhaps he would care to explain what area of the UK a Paki is from? after all many of those who are called such have actualy been born and raised in this country and therfore are Scousers/Brummies etc It is a term that refers to a persons skin colour and percieved ethnicity rather than a regional trait Would you be ok with calling someone a Nigger/Coon/Kafir
Yeah, that's my point. Unless you are that group or really understand how the term is used and what it is meant to describe, it is pretty dicey.
