How many of yous consider yourself to be old fashioned? I think that it is sweet when men are, holding the doors open for ladies and stuff like that.
Yes it is polite. But at the same time I think it is old fashioned. Either way it is what should be done.
I wear a suit everyday, including on my days off. Does that make me old fashioned, or just well dressed.
In some ways I am. I prefer the simpler things in life over more the more modern. I still use a rotary phone! (laughs) But, I can adapt to most changes well enough. Just not cell phones, I prefer to destroy those. Part of that is a the result of being poor from birth to adulthood though, it limits your ability to try new things.
I think old fashoined is alot more than holding a door open. I do it because of manners. I'll let ladies or an older couple out of an elevator first as well. Unless they farted.
craig a: "I'll let ladies or an older couple out of an elevator first as well. Unless they farted." I was in Atlantic City and faced that situation. There were 3 older women in an elevator and I was about to enter to take the 10 ...15 floor plummet to the Lobby when they said "You might not want to come in here" and giggled. I braced myself and said "It's ok, I can hold it!" (referring to my breath) sucked in a lung-full of "clean" air and entered (the ladies thought it was funny lol) But ...that was one lonnng ride. I left the elevator first.
I consider myself a crusty old New Englander..... lol, but yes if you met me in person you would find that I am very polite. I'm teaching my kids to be like that too, and am old-fashioned enough to give them a swat on the behind when they're rude.
So you're a child abuser Peter? Just kidding. Seriously though having spent many years waiting on people and at times children it seems manners and being polite ARE old fashioned. Many times when I have dealt with a child in retail and they used terms like "may I", "please", "thank you" and "sir" to name a few I compliment the parents and the child because I so rarely see it. Usually the parents thank me for noticing and tell me they are raising their children "the old fashioned way".
I'm trying to remember... the Tropicana maybe? ...I know it was the one where a parking (garage) collapsed (a few months later). I watched the workers as they added floors to it when money got tight. (laughs) I still wish I had gone to the poker rooms instead of the machines, etc. ...oh well. And this was... (thinks) ...hard to say, maybe 6 to 8 years ago? My concept of time isn't very good lol
I checked online, the Tropicana's Parking Garage collapsed in October, 2003. So ...yeah, I was there roughly 8 years ago.
I remember that day vividly. We had just gotten out of a very spirited and positive marketing meeting when we heard the noise. I proceeded to the old parking garage in order to survey the damage. I recall that the Senior VP of Player Development came with me. He looked at the pile of rubble, turned to me and said "I hope you have your resume updated."
I'd say they enjoyed sampling the various different types of food being offered around the casino, and it didn't agree with them. No, I'm not going to guess which foods! (laughs)
