Let me see if I've got this straight. America was created by a super-being who no one has ever seen and whose nature, will, and intentions have always been the subject of wild disagreement resulting in endless wars and persecutions. This super-being not only created America, he/she/it endowed this country with the right and the obligation to lead all other nations. And presumably the right, even the obligation to go to war with those nations and peoples who might dispute our claim to dominion. You don't argue with the Lord's Anointed. And Romney knows all this because I guess God told him. I don't know how else he could speak with such certainty on the subject. What other things has the Super-Being told Romney I wonder? I think we need to know now before he and the SB have a chance to move into the White House. http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2011/10/07/romney-god-wants-america-to-lead/ http://www.theprovince.com/mobile/news/world-news/wants America lead Mitt Romney/5519601/story.html
I thought that one's religion or lack thereof wasn't supposed to be an issue in elections. The "no religious test" thing. Yet Romney seems to think that this is God's country with a Heavenly mandated role to fulfill, with both the God and the role being defined by Mitt Romney. Obama is seen as a closet Muslim by some people. I seriously doubt that he is, but if he were why should we care? Rick Perry sound a lot like a theocrat to me, and Michelle Bachmann like even more of one. http://www.thedailybeast.com/articl...nd-rick-perry-s-dangerous-religious-bond.html more links on the linked page.
Really. Since when? lol When was the last Muslim or Buddhist or Jew or Atheist nominated as a Presidential candidate for one of the 2 major parties? Like you said Why should we care? Good question but there is no doubt that we do care. And anyone who says there isn't a 'test' is deluding themselves. I am not even convinced that Romney can get nominated and he is just a different sect.
Exaclty. That's my point. Even back in the day, wasn't John Kennedy's Catholicism a big issue for a lot of voters? Different sect? Romney might not even be a Christian at all in the eyes of at least two prominent Republicans. Religion in general is kind of hard for me to get my head around. I guess I should just be grateful that the RWer's can't agree on which version of "The Faith" is the true one. If they were to come to a meeting of the minds and move forward as one on this issue we could all be in trouble. http://www.washingtonpost.com/polit...-a-christian/2011/10/09/gIQAbkafXL_story.html
lol True. But if you go to the real Bible Belt, you might not be considered a Christian at all if you just go to the wrong church.
The wrong church. The right church. Whose church is which? And how is one from the right church expected to treat one from the wrong church? Is there only one right church? Which end of the egg do we crack and what are the consequences of cracking the wrong end? It's amazing to me that any of this should matter especially in the context of politics. But obviously it does to lots and lots of people. And because it matters to them it matters to me too. The matter in my case being self-preservation.
