We all know that some people have decided not to have kids or only one to two children per household so they can own more material things and have more time for themselves but this no sex thing that they say is happening in Japan is really against human nature unless they so self absorbed that they are just into pleasing themselves.

The rest is taken off Fox internet news. Wonder what the english version of Japenese media are saying.

The National Institute of Population and Social Security Research study also showed one in four unmarried men and women in their 30s had never had sex, and most young women preferred being single.

It also showed over 60 percent of unmarried young men didn't have a girlfriend, and nearly 50 percent of women of the same age weren't dating.

A survey by the Japan Family Planning Association found that 36 percent of males between 16 and 19 had "no interest" in sex.

One interesting figure has come out of the diaper manufacturer Unicharm.
It announced last week for the first time ever sales of its adult diapers were larger than those for babies.

Another study recently showed Japan's population is expected to fall a third from its current 127.7 million over the next century

Saw what is listed below on a Japanese English website. After reading it it makes one wonder if self sex or no sex leads to a longer life. The extinction numbers do not take in effect impact of future war, disease, natural disaster, or what would most likely be the outcome, intermarriage for foriegn workers are going to have to be imported from Africa, or elsewhere to take care of all of these old people.

"Meanwhile, life expectancy—already one of the highest in the world—is expected to rise from 86.39 years in 2010 to 90.93 years in 2060 for women and from 79.64 years to 84.19 years for men."

If there is one less person living in Japan every one hundred seconds, then I think that would come out to 864 less Japanese people a day living in Japan. Just think of the uproar if an outside force was killing half of that daily yet it seems as if the Japanese people are going to fade away in time sliently for they seem to becoming sexless. Sounds like something out of a Peter Sellers cold war movie.

Not been funny or anything here Andy but is not Japan one of the most crowded countries on the map? Possibly a lowering of the population will not turn out to be the end of the race but giving it a new start?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Tokyo is the most populated city on Earth. But wasn't there some debate about the "life expectancy" figures a few years back? Something about not properly recording all deaths, which led to misleading figures? I'm doubting that issue has been fully resolved.

While the aging population poses some problems for Japan it is not a uniquely Japanese issue. I think that the French, for one, have similar concerns about a lack of new little French people making their appearance in the world to balance out the increasing number of people at the other end of life.

The Tokyo-Yokohama mega-city is pretty huge but I think it might be behind a couple of places, Mexico City among them, in population if not in density. Too lazy to look it up right now though :)

The Japanese are born bureaucrats and fanatic record-keepers. It's possible that there has been some laxity in recording deaths but I find the suggestion kind of improbable on the surface unless there were technical issues of some sort.

As for the Japanese "race", I think the Japanese race wil hang in there somehow.

Maybe your answer is also the answer to part of the problem. They say that animals kept in small zoos typically do not breed. Wonder if humans would respond the same which may be happening in Japan. We are animals too after all.

I just find it shocking that people are becoming sexless and what could be the cause.
Is it the overcrowding for some.
Is it the material life and self absorbtion.
    Could it be envirnomental?

I touched on that a while back, at least on the point of a possible explanation for being gay. My guess had basically the same idea, that with an overpopulation (in nature), less sex occurs between males and females. I consider it plausible anyway.

Self-absorption (why the hell does the "b" change to a "p"? Damn you, English language!) is certainly plausible... in humans, and possibly human-like species (such as chimps). I know chimps in particular have some very human-like tendencies, and self-absorption is noticeable in some of them. Unlike humans though, chimps usually take every opportunity they can get to "get some" lol

Humans, on the other hand, are obviously less interested in mating with just anyone... we are more particular. Attraction is more necessary with mating for us than in most other species, and self-absorption certainly is part of that.

There are certainly also some environmental factors that come into play, such as temperature, location, etc. that have an effect on our mating. Just try to convince a woman to have sex in a snow-cave... I've been trying for decades with no success... "It's too cold!"... whatever. While a sandy beach is a pretty amorous location, a sandy desert isn't.

Then there's the prolonged effects of toxic chemicals in our environment, and I'd definitely say they have a cumulative effect over time. All the chemicals we surround ourselves with, in our homes (rugs, furnitures, building materials, detergents, etc.) and even on our skin (clothing, shampoos, soaps, make ups, deodorants, etc.) affect our body chemistry over time, causing abnormalities and diseases (IMO). That is going to affect our sex-drives in one way or another.

Then, of course, there's beliefs... religious beliefs in particular. Obviously that limits mating behavior lol

I just find it amazing that the percentage of population that is choosing not to have sex is increasing. Could it be from toxic chemicals getting into the drinking water ala Dr. Strange Glove but as you suggest perhaps from commerical greed causing industrial pollution instead of soviet plotting. What was it every 90 seconds there is one less Japanese person alive in Japan and those seconds are going to drop as the years go on.

Think of a family tree and now thing of a nation being represented as a family with trees and every ninety seconds one of those trees is cut down and not being replaced. Would you say that forest is doomed over time as then would that nation.
But the strangest thing is that this is not birth control via abortion as in Russia that is causing population extinction projections but just plain lack of sex that is growing percentage rise. What is causing this? We are talking about Japan here. Japan isn't just any nation it has been one of thee nations for the longest time.

I've heard similar things about Europe and America. Some of the speculation was on urbanization. I'm pretty sure National Geographic had a recent article on it, focusing on South America... Brazil in particular, I believe. If I remember correctly, the idea is that when we (as a people) were impoverished and on farms (as most people were just a couple hundred years ago) the idea was to have as many kids, as many helping hands, as possible... in order to harvest the crops in time. As cities developed, the opposite occurred... people no longer needed as many people around. In fact, too many people around was now a burden on the family, instead of a boon.

So what is the timeline for the extinction of the Japanese "race". How much longer will they be with us? And when they are gone, what will happen to Japan I wonder? Become a provence of China I suppose. If nothing else it will probably mean the end of the American military occupation.

Japan whom it is said is fishing the ocean life to extinction with Blue Fin Tuna leading the list may be dooming itself as well. The projections are subject to change dramically since the precentage of people in Japan who are not interested in sex and under 30 is increasing. One has to wonder if all the fish that is consumed is what is dooming Japan. Wonder if anyone ever tested the mecury levels and other toxins that is said to be in fish from the ocean dumping that might be in the Japanese people now.

I'm still not getting how only the Japanese people would be extinct under that situation. I eat a lot of tuna myself, but I accept my eventual extinction. I just don't understand the issue you are trying to make about the Japanese, and their sex drives. I think Takiji said it right... you're reading too much into this.

Japan Population Decline: Third Of Nation's Youth Have 'No Interest' In Sex
    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/01/30/japan-population-decline-youth-no-sex_n_1242014.html

"Obviously, the most important reason for Japan's declining birth rate is that people are not having sex," Dr. Kunio Kitamura, head of the Japan Family Planning Association, told The Daily Telegraph.

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/wor...young-Japanese-men-not-interested-in-sex.html
Excuse the bold face it was cut and pasted that way but as you can see the not having sex is the main reason the population is dropping in Japan and that number is increasing which would speed up the decreasing of the Japanese. Why would so many people just not have a sex drive. This really is a big deal especially if the cause is tied to environmental pollution.

(Takes out pad, writes prescription, hands it to Andy) ...If it's that big a problem, give 'em this prescription...it's for porn... and tell them to get naked once in a while...around other people. If that doesn't work... oh well...I tried!
