For years I watched as conservatives vilified Obama, and many of them even threatened to murder him. Even today, images of Obama and a noose are a common theme among conservatives.

Lately though, it's the liberals turn to be dumbasses. One liberal held up the severed head of a trump facsimile covered in blood and gore recently and was rightly shamed for doing so.

Another recently said "When was the last time an actor assassinated a President?", overseas.

As a liberal, I believe the republican agenda to be horrific. They make no secret of the fact that they value a lower tax rate over the lives of their fellow citizens, and that isn't just appalling, it's monstrous, and I do dare say evil.

Let's not be like them, please.

Yeah, society is being harmed by them, and we may not be able to avoid a civil war, but let's not go looking for a solution that will harm society in the process. trump and the republican agenda is advancing, but slowly. It's being hampered by liberal outrage, as well as common sense. Their ridiculous and malicious ACA replacement has angered the majority of citizens, including veterans and older people....two groups political parties tend to court rather than piss off....and that anger is helping mitigate the worst effects of the republican agenda. In less than a year, the mid-terms will be a factor as well, much more than they are now, and that too will serve as a damper to the republican agenda. Soon after that, the next Presidential election cycle begins, and that too tends to slow down their progress.

The point being, let's not lose focus of our goal, which is to regain control of the country and enact a more liberal, more progressive agenda.... let's not provide republicans with material for their bs propaganda machine.

I agree--the asinine 'jokes' about violence are completely out of line and counterproductive. The hypocritical conservatives who were all too willing to engage in that sort of thing, or overlook it coming from their own, are pleased to jump up and down and yell about 'violent liberals.'

Yep, and the fact that he is can be used against the republicans. The point being that now republicans have something legitimate to use against liberals, and as L'Emmerdeur said, that's counterproductive.

True, republicans don't really need facts to rile themselves into a frenzy, but there's no point in providing them legitimate means to do that, as it weakens our position since we cannot defend it, like they do. It doesn't matter to them that they can't defend it without sounding like lunatics, but it does matter to us.

As long as Liberals don't lose sight of the fact that the type of right winger that is ascendant these days rejects Constitutional norms, social conventions, and fact-based argument. And they have done quite well as a result.

In the face of this I think that it is at their own peril that Liberals attempt to play the game as they have always played it. I'm not saying that Liberals should lower themselves to the level of the enemy. But they can't assume the existence of core values that they share with their opponents. Bland gentility and fear of causing offense have gotten them nowhere. Jogs to the right, and appeals to the mythical middle have resulted in little more than apathy and cynicism among the people that they need to be energizing.

I've seen Democrats in Congress behave that way from time to time and it irritates me. Most of the time they have the right idea and speak out against specific legislation and actions made by their colleagues, but the rules imposed on them force them to be too congenial with them. They always call the other side friends, almost always show each other respect that is not earned, at least not in my opinion, or the opinions of the general public. Other times I see Democrats behaving just as badly as their republican counterparts. A good example of that is Cory Booker. He talks the talk when it comes to the liberal agenda, except for when the pharmaceutical industry is concerned. I understand that, in order for him to win in his state he has to accept their endorsement, and their $$$, but to me that means his integrity is compromised when it comes to their interests. They bought his vote, and that is unacceptable to me, and a lot of liberals, most likely the majority of them. One reason trump won is because of legislators like Booker, who votes for the pharmaceutical industry instead of the people.

I also occasionally see the occasional liberal complaining about the rhetoric from liberal groups, that it's too full of hate. I tend to think of them as being a bit too prissy for the fight, and it's better that they go back to posting images of their family, dogs and food dishes they think are the bomb. Most though are just plain pissed off, and are not backing down or easing their rhetoric. I'm more in the middle, occasionally getting wound up and letting loose a barrage of "fuck offs" to people that piss me off, but generally remaining focused on the goal: removing republicans from power.

Overall, I really don't see too many liberals believing that republicans share our core values. The majority of those that do are in Congress, and it irritates me that they even bother trying to sing kumbaya songs to a group of bastards that care more about making wealthy people wealthier than they do the suffering and deaths of their own most vulnerable citizens. Hell, it wasn't that long ago that a republican legislator held a guy over the railing in Congress and I'm expected to make peace with that kind of asshat? HELL no. He tries that with me and I'll drag him over the railing, and throw a punch or two before we hit the floor. Fuck that noise.
