In general, is the country better today than it was one year ago?

I witnessed the perfect counterpoint to this just yesterday. Been promising my girl a phone. She earned the grades and is excelling at all the right things so yesterday we go to the budget phone store. One attendant serving one lady in front of us. My initial impression was that she was an attractive middle aged lady that appeared to be doing fine……. Then I overheard the conversation. The phone store employee asks how many federal assistance plans she is on. If she is on three plans, she gets a free phone. And she starts listing them… Snap, Medicaid, SSN, disability…… The phone store guys stops her and says that’s fine. Three was all he needed. It was about that time she took a break to step outside to smoke.

Now I always been a fellow that believes in walking a mile in another man’s shoes before I judge him. But that whole scenario just floored me. That lady would have fit in at a fine dining establishment with her successful husband. She certainly had the energy and sense to be a productive citizen. What would make her choose to live her life suckling the government tit?…. And that a cell phone business has positioned itself in such a way that they would encourage telephone service paid for by the US taxpayers….. This nation is entirely upside down in the values we reach for. I am still in shock over that whole deal.

Thanks to the liberal dissolution of the American way, honor and dignity have become ever moreso the hallmarks of a rare breed.

I've many times imagined that gurgling sound as the last of the water exits the tub through the drain, thinking of it as tax dollars wasted by the government.

Today was the first time that, when I imagined that sound, I equated it with the wasted toil of the declining productive citizens that remain in this nation.

It won't be long now before the liberals realize that what they asked for is not what they wanted.

I wanna go buy an island someplace, but can't afford to do it on my own . . . anyone else want in?

Last year I bought two lots on an island outside of Beaufort SC. Plenty of room for two tents.

Just have to be careful of those king tides. They tend to wash in little gators.

Back in the "Stone Age" when I was growing up, we had a sense of pride in our ability to become self sufficient by working hard to achieve success even if it required working two jobs. As I look around today, I see many who lack a moral compass, have no pride in themselves, are unwilling to become productive members of society and connive to receive handouts from state and federal governments programs. I realize there are those who, due to circumstances beyond their control, need support, however, my ire is directed at those who "play the system."
