Today is Medal of Honor day. Less than .001% of service members receive this high honor and I honor Lance Corporal Kyle Carpenter. A dashingly handsome young marine who shielded the other marines in his position from a hand grenade with his body. Somehow the young man survived the blast that robbed him of his dashing good looks, but not his infectious humility. The young man hails from my berg and one of the honors of my life was meeting him, a genuinely likable young man. It is the incredibly heroic actions of young men and women like Kyle that keeps us safe in our beds each night, so this day I humbly honor Kyle Carpenter.
Enthusiastically seconded!!! Watching a 4 Star salute a PFC/ Lance Corpora/E5, etc., is a wonder to behold that makes you all warm an fuzzy inside.
Today is National Vietnam War Veterans Day. So, it seemed appropriate to piggy back Mopar Dude's Thread.
Oh yes, I remember seeing him presented the medal. Me and my now deceased grandfather talked about the selflessness he displayed that day in 2010. Thanks for the reminder.
