I live in the Deep South. Up until very recently, the confederate flag meant party time….. These days everything is villanized. It’s sad. Everyone needs a reason to be offended.
Revisionist menticide. The "Lefties" are masters at conflating non sequiturs to transfer the emotions of one topic to another. It's quite amazing they get away with it!
I remember watching the "Blue and the Gray" Patrick Swayze was the Confederate hero. Historically their Generals..... Lee/ Jackson/ Nathan Forrest/ JEB Stuart were more skilled, better then their Union counterparts. Now we have statues being removed/ why? Here in Canada, also statues are being removed/ names changed for political correctness gone mad. Being German, we never would remove statues of Roman Emperors/ its part of our history
Those that don’t learn history are doomed to repeat it. The Marxist/Socialist/ Communist left would love to repeat history. The Communist Manifesto replaces the family Bible on their coffee tables. Edit: spelling
I fully agree. I spent three years in Germany in the army and there were war memorials for their Second World War soldiers. People understood that it was historically important….. Thing is people feign all this fake sensitivity so much that it has become fashionable to be “offended”. Most of these kids don’t even know the historical context of the statues they are destroying. It’s such a sad state of affairs.
But you know the historical context? Please feel free to explain those historical contexts as they relate to the Civil War. Try starting with the rebel flag. Then tell me exactly when these statues were constructed. This ought to be good.
OK…. See what I can lay on you while I await the family to show up at this restaurant…. The popularized confederate flag was not the flag flying over Fort Sumter when the Yanks came a-calling…. It happened to be a battle flag flown by the Virginia regulars that also just happened to be General Lee’s regiment. Long after the war between the states was settled, the daughters of the confederacy chose that battle flag to adorn burial sites of their deceased relatives. The flag grew in popularity and was often flown honorably at many Memorial Day ceremonies. All was well until the 1950’s at which point the Dixiecrats (Aghast, The Left!) chose to use the flag as a symbol of segregation and things just all sorta went to hell from there…… So in summary, it was just something else ruined by the left the way I see it…
JN, here’s the original flag of the Confederate States. Do you know the name of it without googling? Doubtful.
Looking back at the true history of the Civil War era. The South was "David" vs the North "Goliath"...kinda like Ukraine vs Russia in 2022. The reason the War lasted from 1861-65/ testament to the skilled Confederate Generals/ and well trained soldiers. The Union side commited "War Crimes" esp. General Sherman. US Grant was like a Soviet General win at all costs/ no matter the casaulties/ cost in human lives. Men like Nathan Bedford Forrest/ Stonewall Jackson/ Jeb Stuart/ Robert E. Lee are legends/ even in Hollywood films. For this a beautifull monument....
That’s correct. Many mistakenly call the most recognized flag, the stars and bars. Did you know there’s a third flag?
It’s the blood stained banner. What all the leftist loons want banned, the flag that had only the upper left image, was never an official flag of the confederacy. So why ban something? It represents history and spurs conversation.
If you eliminate the history you can rewrite it to your own liking. Humm, 1619 project, CRT, and indoctrination of your elementary kids (K-4) about their whiteness and LGBTQ lifestyles instead of reading, writing, and math.
This reminds me, @John Kamps, you're in Canada right? I noticed in some of the news coverage of the recent protests that there were confederate flags around. I've also heard that there's a small number of people in Canada that use them regularly. What's up with that? The "heritage not hate" line doesn't really have legs there.
Let’s be historically and factually clear here. The flag I believe you are referring to is the battle flag of north Virginia (not an official flag of the confederacy) The historical flag’s context was battle not heritage. That’s where removing statues and banning flags is imbecilic. Maybe the Canadians have a better grasp on history?
