The astronauts that Biden abandoned in space have safely returned to earth thanks to President Trump and Elon Musk. Now, I'll address the elephant in the room: WHY IN HELL DIDN'T BIDEN RESCUE THEM??? He could just have easily asked Elon Musk to send his spacecraft up there to rescue them. Why did he abandon them for nine months?
I just hate that people are so self consumed with their hatred of Trump & Musk for saving the nation that they can’t even feel a sense of national pride anymore for heroic actions. Saddens the heck out of me. We were all United Americans when Apollo lifted off.
There is probably no hope for the Trump-hating liberals. I think they’re too far gone. Even something as momentous as this they wont care about because it’s Trump and Elon Musk. Sad.
I recall the days when such events meant something, and the U.S. Space Achievements were the envy and admiration of the world (including the Soviet Union-Gagarin anyone?), and taught and studied with Pride in Schools. If you didn't know who the Astronauts were, or who Yeager was or what the Bell X1 was, you were officially a Dunce Cap wearing dumazz and socially ostracized. WTF happened to us?
My grizzled old grandad was a WWII Navy Seabee. He was a towering John Wayne tough grizzled old man that became an oil wildcatter after his service. He was not the sort of granddad a youngster wanted really, but that is who he was..... I was ten years old sitting in his living room when Neil Armstrong stepped down the ladder. That was the ONLY time I saw a tear in that man's eye and and here half a century later that memory is as fresh in my mind as if it happened yesterday.... National pride absolutely meant something.
Musk is quoted as saying: "We definitely offered to return the astronauts earlier. There's no question about that," Musk said. "The astronauts were only supposed to be there for eight days, and they've been there for almost ten months. So, obviously, that doesn't make any sense. SpaceX could have brought the astronauts back after a few months at most, and we made that offer to the Biden administration. It was rejected for political reasons, and that's just a fact."
Okay, I obviously don't take that to be true, but follow that thought to it's conclusion. Exactly what "political reasons" is he talking about? Is he insinuating Biden hates astronauts? What could Biden possibly gain from taking bad press about the situation for months on end?
US astronauts stuck on space station because Biden didn’t want to risk rescue before election: ex-NASA spaceman March 11, 2025 The two American astronauts stranded aboard the International Space Station for nine months may have been stuck there because of the presidential election, one of their fellow spacemen thinks. Barry “Butch” Wilmore and Suni Williams are high and dry in space possibly because President Joe Biden wasn’t willing to risk a rescue going wrong after their initial ride home on a Boeing craft was deemed unsafe, according to Clayton “Astroclay” Anderson, a former astronaut. “Elon [Musk] said it was politically motivated; I think there’s some truth in that,” Anderson, who also did time on the International Space Station, told The Post. “He offered to bring them home earlier. It came about right before the election,” he added, referring to Musk saying he’d rescue the pair with one of his SpaceX rockets. “My opinion is that they didn’t want a disaster right before an election that they were trying to win and therefore asked the astronauts to sacrifice and stay in orbit.” Musk posted on X on Feb. 20: “SpaceX could have brought them back several months ago. I OFFERED THIS DIRECTLY to the Biden administration and they refused. “Return WAS pushed back for political reasons.” Musk had thrown his support behind then-candidate Donald Trump in July 2024, less than a month after Wilmore and Williams initially became stranded. It is unclear when he reached out to Biden with his offer to rescue the astronauts. During a press conference last week, from the International Space Station, Wilmore — who, alongside Williams, was only supposed to be in space for 10 days — backed up the allegations, saying: “I can only say that Mr. Musk, what he says, is absolutely factual.” Wilmore’s teenage daughter, Daryn, also said “there’s been negligence” that has led to her father being stranded above the Earth. She lamented in a TikTok, “It’s less the fact that he’s up there sometimes; it’s more the fact of why. There’s a lot of politics, there’s a lot of things that I’m not at liberty to say in that I don’t know fully about,” adding that she gets to talk to her dad almost daily. Anderson said the reason why SpaceX and Boeing both have space contracts is so NASA has options when something does go wrong. “The original reason why SpaceX and Boeing were contracted was to give NASA redundancy. We got into a perfect situation where redundancy could be utilized and it wasn’t.” While Anderson explained that politics should have no place in space travel, he acknowledged that “we’re professionals. We’re willing to stay and bite the bullet for NASA. That’s the expectation. Astronauts know that any space flight can be extended or shortened within a moment’s notice for any reason.” But that doesn’t mean they have to like it. “If it were me and I had to stay longer like that, I would be very angry,” said Anderson, author of “The Ordinary Spaceman,” who has spent a total of 167 days in space, pointing out that sympathy does not always come from where you would expect it. “The prevailing attitude of people on the ground is just tolerate [the situation]. ‘They’re in space; they’re superheroes; they get to see the Earth. They’ll get over it.’” https://nypost.com/2025/03/11/us-ne...ause-biden-wouldnt-risk-disaster-ex-spaceman/
A method and reason for leaving office, in lieu of the real reasons the People now know are facts. Because acknowledging same, which occurred after the public support by Musk of Trump the candidate, and after NASA had been presented with 3 failures by Boeing and refused to accept it was safe, to do so would have further public support, so....Biden threw NASA under the bus and let them take the flack. All over $10 million. Why not? Don't be obtuse. It reinforces the Clown image.
Well documented. Biden had enough bad marks against him and a failed space mission just before the election was to be avoided. With voters short memories two astronauts circling the earth would be forgotten long before a failed mission would be.
Interesting they cut this exchange out of an actual astronaut calling him out. Part of the reason the NYPost is a rag, there's not a shred of evidence in there as to Biden's motivation. Real journalism would be documents (like an email or memo out of Biden) describing his motivation. This is just people making bold accusations on hunches being portrayed as fact. Very low grade propaganda, but propaganda nonetheless.
Additionally, prolonged time in space can lead to many health problems. Basically, Biden just left these astronauts to rot. Health impacts of 9 months in space as 2 NASA astronauts return home after extended stay on ISS Extended time in space can bring changes to human physiology and psychology. March 18, 2025 NASA astronauts Barry "Butch" Wilmore and Sunita "Suni" Williams are returning to Earth after spending an unplanned nine months in space. The pair performed the first astronaut-crewed Boeing's Starliner capsule flight to the International Space Station (ISS) in June 2024. Wilmore and Williams were only supposed to spend about one week in space. However, issues with Starliner extended their mission by several months and delayed their return until early 2025. Experts have said that spending a prolonged period in space -- especially many months -- can come with many changes to human physiology and psychology. Changes due to microgravity One of the biggest changes comes from spending time in microgravity, which allows astronauts to float inside a spacecraft or outside during spacewalks. During this period, there is a decrease of muscle mass -- due to decreased use and lack of stimulus through exercise equipment -- and bone loss, according to NASA. Without Earth's gravity, bones that support the body's weight can lose 1% to 1.5% of mineral density on average per month in space, the federal health agency says. Additionally, without eating a proper diet and getting proper exercise, astronauts lose muscle mass faster in microgravity than they would on Earth. NASA also says that in microgravity, blood and cerebrospinal fluid often shift upward from the lower extremities to the head and eyes, which is believed to cause eye and brain structural changes. Crews are at risk of developing kidney stones due to dehydration or excreting calcium from their bones without preventive or countermeasures. Upon returning to Earth, astronauts are often examined by a medical team as they work to readapt to Earth's gravity and rebalance their equilibriums for everyday tasks such as walking and standing upright. Space radiation Space radiation is different from radiation experienced on Earth. It's made up of three kinds of radiation: particles trapped in Earth's magnetic field, particles from solar flares and galactic cosmic rays NASA said. Earth is surrounded by a system of magnetic fields, called the magnetosphere, that protects people from harmful space radiation. However, the higher a person is in altitude, the higher the dose of radiation they are exposed to. Due to prolonged exposure, astronauts can be at significant risk for radiation sickness and have a higher lifetime risk of cancer, central nervous system effects and degenerative diseases, according to NASA. Crews aboard the ISS receive an average of 80 mSv to 160 mSv during a six-month stay, according to a 2017 NASA report. Millisieverts (mSv) are units of measurement for how much radiation has been absorbed by the body. Although the type of radiation is different, 1 mSv of space radiation is roughly the same as receiving three chest X-rays, the federal space agency said. By comparison, a person on Earth receives an average of 2 mSv every year from just background radiation, NASA said. "In low earth orbit where the ISS is, astronauts are at least partially protected by the magnetosphere that protects Earth from the radiation exposure of deep space," Dr. Rihana Bokhari, acting chief scientific officer at Baylor College of Medicine's Translational Research Institute for Space Health, previously told ABC News. "However, they do have a greater radiation exposure than those on Earth because the ISS passes through areas of trapped radiation in their orbit," she continued. "Butch and Suni, since they are on the ISS, will not be exposed to enough radiation to seriously cause large impacts on body systems but the long duration exposure to greater radiation than on Earth could lead to an increase in the risk of cancer." Isolation in space There are also physical and psychological effects that come from being isolated and in a closed environment for a long duration. NASA says that crews selected for ISS missions are carefully chosen and trained to make sure they can handle a mission that may last for six months or longer. However, research has shown that this type of environment, regardless of whether someone is in space, can lead to behavioral changes and cause fatigue, stress and sleep loss. NASA said researchers are investigating ways to help ward off the negative effects of isolation including using virtual reality to "stimulate relaxing environments" or engaging in activities such as learning a language or tending to a space garden. Dr. Jennifer Fogarty, chief scientific officer at Baylor College of Medicine's Translational Research Institute for Space Health, previously told ABC News that there are also changes to the immune system during this time, often a result of chronic stress, which is why it's important to create as healthy of an environment as possible for astronauts going on missions. https://abcnews.go.com/US/health-impacts-9-months-space-2-nasa-astronauts/story?id=119924697
