Cameras in courtrooms

Should cameras be allowed in courtrooms to televise to the public? I am not really sure how I think about this. At some point it would be nice to know what was going on but at the same time, I think that if cameras were allowed then maybe a fair trial would not take place.

Very good question Angie, would it encourage showboating for the cameras? I am not sure how well it would work

It is a good question Angie and I'm going to counter with a question.

Have you ever served on a jury and if so would cameras being present affect your decision?

Good question for me. I have never been on a jury but I am sure it could affect my decision.

I served on a jury a few years ago. Nothing major - a burglary case.

I don't feel that cameras would have affected my decision in any way and in a case like that I doubt there would be any "showboating".

Now, I do feel it would be quite different in a high profile murder case for example. Also, as a juror, I would prefer NOT to be seen on TV in a high profile case.
I was called upon as a juror to do my duty. I did my duty. No cameras needed.

Yes I agree with you totally. In the case of something major there is no way I would want everyone knowing what my vote was. I guess that makes sense.

Are you saying that OJ didn't have a fair trial?

Were exactly did she mention OJ? She stated that a fair trial might not take place do you deny the possibility that it MIGHT NOT TAKE PLACE?

I provided an example of someone who had cameras in the courtroom and certainly had a fair trial, nothing more. So while it is possible, I don't see it any more likely to happen than if there were not cameras in the courtroom.

Ah of course you provide a example so it must be correct that all trials in front of a camera will be unbiased

It was probably the most important and high profile criminal case of the last century. It shows that cameras have no adverse effects on the ability to have a fair trial. If cameras are present and a fair trial is not achieved, it is the people involved in the case that are responsible, not the cameras. Furthermore, the cameras will provide an indisputable record of what happened that will clearly show the injustice.

Perhaps we should ask Sandy Fonzo what she thinks about the subject?

Again so one trial shows that it will have no affect on any other great thinking LOL As for it been the most important criminal case of the last century LOL come on get real, you think it was more important than the Nuremburg trials? again that was filmed and there was showboating even there

What do you do, read only the first two sentences of a post? And the Nuremburg trials were military tribunals and not part of the American justices system. I assumed that we were discussing the American justice system here.
