I am a youth sports guys and don’t usually get too tied up in pro sports…. However, I went to the very first Carolina Panther game back in 1990-something and vowed then to be a Panther fan… Well, in recent years the have been bad. Really, really bad. First game out of the box Sunday they lived up to previous expectations and were absolutely horrible on the gridiron Sunday….. Did I keep cheering my horrible team on even though I desperately wanted to be a Saints fan? Yes I did. Well I think the left is playing this election like a team sport and it shows no foresight or clarity in thinking. This isn’t a team sport. The democrat team this season is a loser. They will send your kids to fight wars you didn’t want and tax you into oblivion. If you want peace and prosperity, you need to be looking hard at the other “team” folks. Your kids are counting on it.
I stopped in a store today, and struck up a conversation with a young fellow working there; in the old days we would have called the job Soda Jerk. Seemed a bright young fellow, with the typical belly fat of a red cheeked strapping 18 year old, before getting to Basic Training PT. Anyway, being my usual big mouth self, I asked what he was doing there, instead of college, but told him I think it is commendable you are working. He replied it was only temporary, and was waiting to start work for the State. I of course asked what was he going to do (thinking Highway Crew or Maintenance, etc.), and he said State Corrections Officer. He put in his application the month after he graduated last year. I mentioned the waiting list must be crowded. He said no, it just takes a long time and a lot of tests, which he has passed, including Physical, and the final step was a Lie Detector exam, which he passed last week, and is now just waiting for the 2nd Lie Detector Test, because they do it 2X, a minimum of 2 weeks apart, so he should be taking it week after next. I asked if it looks promising, and he said he was already told that after he passed the Detector Test, they told him to be ready to report to the State Police Academy within 30 days, so he is very glad and does not see how he can fail the final Test, because he is clean and has nothing to hide, and besides if he had failed the Detector Test, his Dad would have kicked his azz out of the house. I asked what his dad does.... and he replied Tractor Trailer Long Haul Driver. I found this very interesting, because I would not...these days....associate a father recommending his offspring pursue law enforcement. So, being the big mouth I am, I mentioned that. he laughed and said his mother told his dad her son was not going to get killed on the highway and have her worrying about him everyday, and "we" need more Cops so the mess that damn Biden created can be fixed. He quickly said sorry, in case I supported Biden. i said no offense at all, even if I did, because it is very refreshing to hear the country still has young people interested in Law Enforcement. I asked how is the pay, and he said $32,000.00 during the 8 months training, but after graduation starting pay is $70,000.00 and they pay for college and after 2 years of college, he can apply for the State Trooper program, so since he can't pay for college, he is pretty excited at the opportunity. I asked did he consider going to a Junior College first, and he said no, a lot of his class did that, and they have told him they are not learning anything except why President Trump should be in jail, and he (the young man) does not want to waste his time with "those kind of teachers". I left him a $50.00 Tip, and left astounded that there ARE young souls that get it, and that gives me giddy hope.
Charley, I am so happy that you encouraged that young man. It sounds as though he does have a solid path ahead of him and with all the noise he has going on around him, I bet he is still feeling good that you reinforced what he knew in his heart was right. Well done sir!
