Do you support mass transit? Although it reduces the amount of traffic on the road, it only goes to limited areas on a public schedule. What does everyone else think? I never use my city's rail.
None available. Luckily right now I am making the 4 mile round trip commute to work in my beater van.
Well London has a rather good system so yep I use it regular, much easier than trying to drive into the city
We have one here, it is where you go if you want to ride with the "interesting" people that mumble to themselves, drool on themselves, or smell bad.
I was in London a few times and they do have a great public transit system. Trains and buses. New York city also has a good transit system. I heard San Francisco and Paris have good ones too. Vegas has a lousy one. Its really quite a gamble. Oh, thats too much. I just made that up. No really, it is poor. I am for it.
Well, in a city like NY or Chicago, or Houston - I am for it. It is just that it seems to attract the "interesting" people here. And I don't mean little old ladies with sewing bags either.
They have a great Bus network in Recife (Brazil) and the trams/bus's in Amsterdam work well Musnt forget the network in Berlin either that is super.
Netherlands makes it practically impossible to not get somewhere by public transportation of some sort. Of the many countries I have travelled in, Netherlands is by far the easiest to get around in - beginning at Schiphol when you leave the terminal and go right into the intercity train station downstairs to catch a train into the city.
I had to rethink my response here as I guess we do have a semblance of mass transit here. IF I want to go to Chicago for the day I can take the South Shore railway. Have never used it though as I don't want to go to Chicago that often. It is great for people that work there though. IF I want to fly out of a Chicago airport we have the Tri State (Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana) bus service to take us there. THAT service is well worth the money. I drive 10 miles, park my car in a secure area and take a bus to and from O'hare for $38. No muss, no fuss and parking at O'hare (or Midway) would cost a small fortune. They also drop you off at the terminal so you don't have to walk 50 miles or so. If you've ever been to O'hare you know what I'm talking about.
When I was stationed in Berlin, my wife and I used the U-Bahn to go pretty much anywhere in the City, except to the site we worked at, it didn't go that far. There was a bus that ran from the base to the site; we took that most of the time, until we bought a car. Then we'd use the car to go to work and the commisary. However, we still used the U-Bahn to go pretty much everyplace else. Here, there's a bus system, but we don't use it.
You lost me on this one Isaiah. How does mass transit kill more marine life that, let's say, everyone driving their own vehicles to work?
My city does not yet have a mass transit in place, but I support it because it's supposed to reduce CO2 emissions as well as relieve traffic congestion.
