If you count my financial aid income, about 172,000,000 make more than I do.

    Dang.

No posted percentage? I guess we won't find out how many are 1 or 2%'ers here. ;) I have brought up similar numbers many times before in the discussions on the ridiculousness of the term 'Middle Class' and 'Tax Breaks'.

I have said many times that my household income falls in the upper 5% and this calculator confirms that I am. With three teenager it sometimes feels like I am in the bottom 5%. You have to keep in mind that you income and where you live are all relative. I can make $35,000 and live in N. Dakota and do pretty well. I could also make $150,000 and live in New Jersey and be struggling.

How can you make a statement like this & still call for higher taxes on the people who have higher incomes? All things are relative....a big income certainly doesn't make one rich.

How can I call for higher taxes knowing that I may have to pay them? Look up the opposite of greed and you'll figure it out.

Continuing your own argument, it isn't always about how much one makes. If you have the extra money, please feel free to send it to BO but don't assume everyone in your income bracket is in the same financial position.

Yeah, that is always the Right-winger position. I never said that I have extra. What I could do is tighten my belt just like you could and help this country that has given both of us so much. I know, I know, but really, I am speaking English. The fact that you feel comfortable suggesting that I should feel free contribute more while you sit back and contribute the same amount or less if you can get away with it, just speaks to your own selfishness and greed. I'm willing to help this country while you are willing to help yourself. I know you justify your greed by hating the government but it really just comes down to looking out for yourself and nothing more. You can't win an argument by looking like a selfish loser so you try and turn it around by telling others that they should feel free to give more as long as you don't have to. Just face what you are and leave the rest of us out of it. Money is you God and that is why you'll never have any. You can't possess the idol you worship or you would stop worshipping it. Somehow, I can't picture you ever NOT worshipping the almighty buck.

Nice little rant but, as usual, you couldn't be further from the truth when you try to depict what my life is like (I guess it makes you feel better in some odd way?). I guess I could brag about how many cars are in my driveway or a strange parenting method, as you do but I won't.

Geez, Louise guys--can't there be one thread without you making it about yourselves? It must be nice having those egos of yours, but it sure would be nice to find a thread without you sniping at each other and, um, maybe staying on topic?

I didn't comment on your "life", I said that you worshipped money. By your comments, it is obvious that you do. It is only money and to be so possessive of it is a sin.

You couldn't resist attacking my family again could you? I thought Steve warned you to quit doing that?

I didn't attack your family, stop the whining. I simply refered to those strange comments you made a while back....not something I made up, something you posted. But feel free to tattle if you so wish.

I am a ~66%'er and I don't begrudge anyone their wealth or income. However, like I have said before and this calculator certainly shows, if someone is making 200k, they don't know what it is to be middle class regardless of what the President wants to call them.

Someone making that much money could buy every house on my entire street (a middle class neighborhood) within 20 years with the extra disposable income they have over what I consider middle class. And the would still have more than enough disposable income left over to pay the taxes and insurance on each of those homes every year.

Disposable income & high wages don't always go hand-in-hand....it's not what you make but what you do with what you make. I know folks with big incomes who don't have a dime to their names...student loan debt, house pymts, car pymts, credit card debt...some people are going to spend more than they make whether they make $30k or $300k a year.

That just means they spent (or overspent) the disposable income they had. It doesn't mean they didn't have it, they just already disposed of it. ;)

Not disagreeing with you at all, just saying disposable income is relative to expenses. I don't feel sorry for anyone who spends as much as they make, regardless of income bracket.

I know what you are saying. I know someone who makes about the same as I make (being in the govtr, everyone knows what everyone else makes lol) and they bought a quarter million dollar house (w/land). We still have the same disposable income, he is just using his differently. ;)

What about the person who makes about $90/week and still has to pay mortgage, electric, and water bills?

If you only make $90/wk you probably shouldn't have a mortgage and the responsibilities that go along with it, should you?
