Chicago is run by the most beholden politicians in the nation. They be holdin' their wankers in one hand and bribe money in the other.

This is yet another example why leftist policies fail. Every Democrat run city is a hell hole. I know all the leftist had a conniption when Trump called third world countries S-holes, he should have referenced the Democrat run cities first.

    Brief correction . . .

Hell hole cities are not another reason why leftist policies fail. Republicans could take them over and turn them around just fine, so the city has nothing at all to do with the failed policies of the leftists.

Oh yeah, the correction? . . . This is yet another example that leftist policies fail.

There’re only hell holes because of Democrats. I think we’re on the same page. I’m sure Just Nutty and Frequently Delusional and will disagree.

Do you think anyone could turn some of these cities around? I think it might be possible but could take generations. The policies and resulting crime/poverty/hopelessness has driven out many of the productive people. What's left in some of these cities are those that benefit from the current regimes (criminals, politicians, transfer payment beneficiaries) and those that have been beat down so much that they have just given up.

Disagree? Oh, I don’t think that covers it. JN & FD are interminably right!

Chicago would be the most challenging by a mile, and I agree that it would require a lot of time. I imagine most others could be turned around in a term or two.

This is what I can't get my head around...how do these people keep getting elected? We've lost Public oversight of government!

Once Republicans retake Congress in 2022, we need to put an end to all Public employee unions and regulate the rest out of existence. They're the ones responsible for this Communist "hot mess". If we can do it for the Air Traffic Controllers Union, we should do it for every union.

I wish we could. I don't think that people stop to think that Detroit was once a bustling and growing city. The labor unions put an end to that. The labor unions had their place once upon a time, however they should have disappeared with Hoffa.

We can't evaluate history without considering what came before. No time in human history did the lot of the average citizen improve more than the first 100 years of the United States' history...prior to the two-class labor market created by union coercion. Unions reduce the labor pool to raise pay and benefits for a select few at the expense of non-union workers...and out-of-work union members.

Unions (the way they're exploited by criminals) are the enemy of America!

No, we still have public oversight of government. What we do not have is a public which thinks critically.

That's the whole reason liberals hijacked education these past 50 years or so.

If two sides of every issue were fairly aired in the classroom, the students would better connect cause and effect in pursuit of better understanding. Liberals have pre-empted this by removing any reason to consider other than the single perspective fed to them.

Unfortunately, our electorate thinks more one-dimensionally than any that preceded it.

If we're to eliminate this scourge, we must vote educators unions out of our districts.

Public oversight of government is more foundational. Critical thinking is disrupted when there is no cost associated with a benefit. If everything is "free", then sure, why not? "I'll take three!". That's what I mean when I say direct taxation destroyed Public oversight of government. Unsavory people manipulating the electorate for personal aggrandizement is the result. Direct taxation is like honey at a picnic!

What I think most folks don't realize is that people invest money...to make more money. When we tax the rich, we're really taxing the economy...that's where the money comes from. Economics 101 tells us what happens when capital become more expensive. The only reason capital isn't more expensive now is that we're allowing the Fed to push our spending into the future. How is that even legal?

It's easy: the worse they do, the better the odds they get reelected. People who are fed up move out and that just leaves those who benefit from the policies (unions with their carve outs, lobbyists/allies of the politicians with their preferential deals, government employees) and those that just don't care.

I never thought I would EVER see the day when the Mayor of a U.S. city would unleash thugs, arsonists, and murderers against their own citizenry. Never thought I would see it...:(

What is it that has taken over such control of peoples' brains? Kamala Harris (a former California AG) was bailing these people out so they could commit more crimes!

Power, delusion, and a lack of common sense are just a few answers that I can think of.

I have a lot of friends both Conservative and Liberal. The difference has always been like Coke vs. Pepsi...nothing like now. Politics weren't divisive. Then, when Donald Trump is elected, it's like a switch went off. Now all my Liberal friends are staring straight ahead in a trance and repeat whatever they heard on CNN the night before. I've never seen anything like it!

    The Journalist's Creed
I believe in the profession of journalism. ... I believe that clear thinking and clear statement, accuracy and fairness are fundamental to good journalism. I believe that a journalist should write only what he holds in his heart to be true.

That doesn't mean journalists print whatever they personally believe. It doesn't mean that at all.

Btw, why do journalists get to keep their pronouns?

Quite a few journalists do write "their truth" and they are convinced that it is the actual truth. The possibility of pushing a narrative to convince others to join in on their truth is too hard to avoid in the name of actual truth.
