Over and over in this forum I see those that lean left continually batter those that lean right for being vile and angry people..... This evening as I packed my bags I took a break to ponder this and objectively read over many of the comments and discussions here..... The truth is overwhelmingly that the conservative minded folks posts are reasoned and thoughtful...... The left leaning folks are frequently thoughtful, but most posts are laced with so much visceral hate filled, finger pointing verbiage that it is just stunning. How can this be? Are we now in a world where I can punch you in the eye and claim you are the bully? Guys, this nation is crumbling from within. We can point fingers and curse each other for being the enemy and continue to destroy our nation.... Or we can find some civility and begin to bind its wounds.

Is it possible, just possible, that the Left leaning folks here take umbrage with the Right leaning folks full-throated support for a maniacal vile racist egomaniac tearing this country to pieces with the absolute abdication of responsibility of the entirety of the GOP? Put yourself in our shoes and tell me you would act exactly the same way. And be honest. I remember some of the most repugnant disgusting rhetoric I had ever heard from the Right leaning folks when Obama was in office and nobody on the Right ever once asked anyone to tone it down for the good of the country. Well, the world turns and now the shoe is on the other foot.

Trump will go down in history as the worst idea this country never voted for. He is such a loathsome human being that anyone remotely associated with him in the future will be ridiculed and tainted for the rest of existence. Trump is just that bad.

If you have ever noticed civility coming from Donald Trump, I defy you to point it out. Now you ask us to be civil in response to what this mad man is doing and support him because he is the president? All I can say is not bloody likely but feel free to wish it were so.

I think you're a civil person that doesn't like conflict. In that reality, you may have backed the wrong horse in this one. There is no civil response to what this man has done to our country. You might as well ask an angry badger to dinner to meet the family.

I promise to be the most civil person you have ever met when this monster is driven from the White House with pitchforks and torches. I promise.

I implore you to ponder this:

"First, I must confess that over the last few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action;" who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season." -MLK

We've been put in a position where we're barraged daily with injustice. Coronavirus denial and exacerbation, support for white supremacists, ignoring the hunt and slaughter of U.S. troops by foreign powers, and that's all just recently.

Also, is it totally fair to say the conservatives here are reasoned and thoughtful? Of course some of you are, but I can't tell you how many times a discussion has immediately been derailed by calling me a socialist/communist/anarchist (bonus points for their interchangable use!)

What I see most often is not civility from even the more well mannered conservative posters, but rather ignoring our words and attempting to tell us what we're "actually" saying. Once and for all, let it be known that the slippery slope arguement so often used to characterize our policy suggestions is a logical fallacy.
