Is the Romney nomination or Romination as exciting to you as it is to the rest of us? Apparently, it is enough to just look like a TV president on the Right. But is running away from your record at your only political job enough to make you a good president? That is your decision to make since it is an inevitable lock that Romney will be the nominee. A guy that had one term as governor and conceded that he and the rest of the field of Republicans probably wouldn’t win in 2008 so he didn’t bother to run.
I wouldn't necessarily call it a lock myself... but highly probable works for me. Assuming Newt doesn't have any major blows to give Romney. The rest of the field shouldn't be an issue for either of them.
Obama voted "present" a lot when he was senator. How often did he really take a stand at anything--and how often do you hear him reference his term as senator? He resigned his seat to take the office of president--prior to which he resigned his state senate seat to become an United States senator. I wouldn't bash Romney all that much, based on Obama's political record. Regardless, I can't get excited about Romney or Gingrich. Neither side has any good choices right now and it's very sad.
Exactly! The reason so many Repubs are still in the race is precisely because of BO's recent record. He didn't have one when he was elected president but it's sure different today. I'll bet Romney just can't wait to face off with BO. Let BO level the first criticism & Romney has enough ammo (metaphorically speaking) to lay him away. The dims had better be careful with the flip-flop stuff because BO is going to wind up looking pretty silly when his flip-flops are played back!
Fixed that for you . . . I agree--he had no record, which should have kept him out of office. One of the rip-roaring insults that is launched against Sarah Palin is that she never completed her term as governor. Well, what exactly has Barack Obama finished? He'll limp his way through this term of office, since there's no more political social climbing to be done, but he does not strike me as being a particularly enthusiastic president or one that particularly cares about his country.
...some things for BO to tread carefully on.... He is on video blasting Bush as unpatriotic for increasing the debt & borrowing from China Every economic indicator is worse today than it was when he took office He claims to have patterned his Obamacare after Romneycare yet Romneycare was deemed a failure even before BO pushed Obamacare on the country
Oh, I thought we were talking about Romney. Well, if there is a topic you don't like, just pick a new one eh? My snarky comment for the day. Ok, I am from Illinois. I know his record and I know the legislature here. He voted "present" approximately 3% of the time while in the state legislature mostly to voice opposition to something in the bill he objected to. It's a legislative procedure used a lot by all politicians in this state and they use it for various purposes. 3% of time is less than many U.S. Senators simply don't vote on issues. This is just a Palin/McCain and yes, a candidate Hillary Clinton talking point that has little real significance once you understand what actually occurred and how seldom it occurred. Anyway, I doubt Romney is even electable and the only reason Gingrich is even polling with descent numbers right now is because Cain is currently tanking, Perry already tanked, and Bachmann lead the way to the bottom. Paul is a joke, Huntsman is invisible, and Santorum is.... Well go ahead and Google him. If I've forgotten anybody, it's only because everyone else has forgotten them too.
Obama resigned to take another public service position which is very common in political circles and you can't seriously point a finger at him when it is hard to name a politician that hasn't done it. That is the way the game is played. You run for mayor and then run for state rep. Then you run for governor and then you run for Senator, always moving up to the next post. Palin simply quit half way through her term and took a lucrative gig with GOP TV, I mean Fox. Moving from one public service job to the next is built into the system. Moving from public service by leveraging your position into a high paying job in the private sector is neither noble, doing the public any good, nor is it the same as moving from one public service job to the next. You know this.
I'm sorry, I thought legitimate comparisons were permitted in discussions. Forgive me for making that mistake. As to "voicing opposition" to something--isn't that usually done by voting against it?
Yeah, all that is going to convince the Evangelicals to vote for a cult member of the Mormon Church. Their opinion, not mine. Good luck with that! Obama: "Hey Mitt, what have you done lately?" Romney: "Duhhhhhh! Uhhhhhh! The 2004 Olympics?" Obama: "I killed Bin Laden"
I didn't realize he was there at the time? Tell me more because I seem to recall a photo of him sitting off to the side when the military folks were directing the assault. And didn't BO dither for several hours on whether or not to go in & get bin Laden after our itell had pinpointed him? And didn't BO order CIA agents prosecuted for using the very techniques that ultimately led to bin Ladens demise? And didn't BO allow an "honorable" burial for bin laden despite the death & destruction he carried out?
Not every Christian thinks that Mormons are cult members--although many do--and not every Christian is an evangelical. A while back there was a bumper sticker: The Moral Majority is Neither. I have to guess that more than a few people still think that way.
You know, in this country, we have a law called the Stolen Valor Act that, among other things, makes it illegal to wear military medals that were not awarded to you or to claim acts of heroism that you really did not take part in. If I were BO, I would be careful with this. Just because he happened to be the president at the time it sure doesn't make him "the guy who got bin laden". I prefer to give credit to the SEALS for their actions and the intelligence community for obtaining the info used to locate bin laden. ....but you just go ahead & give BO all the credit.... BO is in an envious position. One one hand, since he's the pres, he gets to take all the credit. Yet, according to the left's justifications, he shouldn't get any blame.
My take on the issue of Palin resigning before her term was up is the reasoning behind the decision. From what I can recall of her reasoning, she resigned because of an excessive amount of lawsuits being brought against her and her administration (As I understand it Alaskan Law allows for any state citizen to file a grievance or lawsuit against the governor who must then address it). She believed (rightly or wrongly, I can't say) that the lawsuits (or whatever) had crippled her ability to govern. As you mentioned, Obama resigned in order to accept a higher office position.
A few points here. I did not claim that that all Christians think Mormons are cult members. The former Religious Right or Moral Majority is almost exclusively what the Tea Party draws from and they are mostly the Evangelicals. They ARE the base of the party as it stand today. And shock of shocks, I do think that the Mormon Church is a cult. Well, I pretty much think all religious sects are cults. Some a little more benign than others and some others nothing like benign at all but basically all just selling one version of a story or another. I think Romney would lose the South or most of it anyway.
Oh I don't begrudge people for belonging to them. I know that it has been a habit for longer than anyone can remember and they all sing such a pretty song. Eternal life, peace and happiness, blah, blah, blah... Who wouldn't buy into life after death? I certainly understand the appeal and was raised in a private religious school myself but that doesn't make it true. I'm also not advocating for Atheism. I don't think anyone really has a clue about existence or nonexistence of a supernatural being(s) but if a belief in a false idea gives people comfort, that is their business. I only know that I will not alter my opinion based on a group psychosis.
Well he certainly missed the perfect opportunity of landing a fighter plane on a carrier and jumping out proclaiming mission accomplished.
