WASHINGTON (AP) — Donald Trump says he invoked the Fifth Amendment and wouldn’t answer questions under oath in the long-running New York civil investigation into his business dealings.

Trump arrived at New York Attorney General Letitia James’ offices Wednesday morning, but sent out a statement more than an hour later saying he declined to answer the questions under the rights and privileges afforded to every citizen under the United States Constitution.”

Anything he said during the deposition could have been used against him in a criminal case. While James’ investigation is civil in nature, the Manhattan district attorney is running a parallel criminal probe.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Former President Donald Trump will be questioned under oath Wednesday in the New York attorney general’s long-running civil investigation into his dealings as a real estate mogul, he confirmed in a post on his Truth Social account.

Trump’s testimony comes amid a flurry of legal activity surrounding him, taking place just days after FBI agents searched his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida as part of an unrelated federal probe into whether he took classified records when he left the White House.

He arrived at the New York attorney general’s office shortly before 9 a.m. in a multivehicle motorcade. As he left Trump Tower in New York City for the short ride downtown, he waved to reporters assembled outside but did not comment.

The New York civil investigation, led by Attorney General Letitia James, involves allegations that Trump’s company, the Trump Organization, misstated the value of prized assets like golf courses and skyscrapers, misleading lenders and tax authorities.

“In New York City tonight. Seeing racist N.Y.S. Attorney General tomorrow, for a continuation of the greatest Witch Hunt in U.S. history!” Trump wrote on Truth Social, invoking his oft-repeated claims about James, who is Black, and the investigation.

 

In my humble opinion, if there is any water at all to be held by this allegation, it must center around a very substantive contemporaneous difference between the value of those specific assets with which the lenders and tax authorities were concerned.

It would benefit Trump only to maximize value to lenders and minimize value to tax authorities. If the values were substantially the same in the same time frame, there is absolutely no grounds for prosecution whatsoever.

 

Obviously, but that is the crux of the issue. They have already demonstrated that the values differed wildly from institution to institution. They have his taxes.

 

You say obviously, but we have not seen the numbers. I think if that information were available it would already have been disclosed, since, independent of federal tax filings, taxable value of real estate for payment of property taxes is in the public record.

Four solid years of fending off falsehoods heaped upon falsehoods…… Now we are supposed to believe Trump is guilty of something simply because of all the flash and drama of a raid on his home? And nobody wishes to expose the accusation against him? All I can say is this time it had better be pretty darned solid or the left risks losing any semblance of integrity that they had left.

 

Credibility of the Democrat Party? It's far too late for them to reverse the damage . . . They know the only thing that can keep them in power is their Machiavellian ways. Deeper and deeper the hole gets. It won't be more than a few decades before the soil gets pushed back in on top of them. I just fear that it won't be republicans doing so . . . I think it's going to be the communist Chinese.

The missile wasn't ready in time, but POTUS Trump knew it, so he tried to hide the proof of his communication and that is what was found by the FBI. Go ahead, deny it, but that is exactly what happened.

 

POTUS Trump took the 5th in NY, only because he wants to be prosecuted. It is true.
