I'm gonna ask you straight up....what is the endgame to that strategy? How could society even survive if they succeed? Does it ever remind you of the old Wild West? The only reason anyone survived back then was because weapons weren't as deadly as the weapons we have in society today not to mention a heck of a lot less people. Everyone already buying into it, already wants the most lethal weapons allowed and that can only escalate over time. So, what is the endgame to the Right wing goal of a highly armed and afraid population?

They want us to be able to defend ourselves from criminals, who will get guns regardless of whether they are legal, and from tyrants (*cough cough* liberals *cough cough*) who may turn against the people or disrespect the constitution.

If someone breaks in your house, are you going to let them get away with all of your valuables? What if someone on the street attempts to mug or rape you?

You seem to be afraid of a lot of things at your young age. Criminals, liberals, tyrants, people who disrespect the Constitution, burglars, muggers, rapists, ..... That is how is it works. Be afraid, buy a gun, snap out of fear. A vicious cycle. Where do you think criminals, rapists, muggers, and the rest get their guns? They are all manufactured right here by the same gun makes that sell you your guns and regardless of how they end up in the hands of these people, a profit is made just the same.

Ever live in a neighborhood where 911 is referred to as "a clean-up call". The bad guys there,
they are armed to the teeth, and you're saying I should not. Ever see a drive by up close and personal. It takes about 30 seconds or less, and by the time the cop show up, it's ancient history.
How do you think the "old west" got tamed? Tent revivals, ladies tea parties? No, a strict adherence to the rules of law backed by acts of violence. I'm all for giving peace a chance, but we're here to watch your back should it not work out.

Those neighborhoods you've never lived in either are made far, far more dangerous by the availability of guns. The same guns people buy to defend themselves are sold by the same people the criminals buy guns from to commit those crimes. There really is only one source supplying the weapons, American gun manufacturers. They supply both sides. That is an indisputable fact and it is also a fact that supplying both sides of any conflict is always the most profitable business model. Guns necessitating the need for guns. If you really are interested in reducing the danger from criminals with guns, get rid of the guns, don't add more weapons to the mix. You also arm criminals when you add more guns to society.

And do you really think that the criminals are incapable of making their own guns - at will! REALLY!!!

c jay, when you're talking to JoeNation, you're talking to someone who hates the Second Amendment. He has (thankfully for him) never needed a gun and lives in a fantasy world where the gun debate is theoretical. He has an unflinching gun paranoia and trying to chip away at it is useless. I've tried talking sense about guns into him for years, but since he's never needed one, he thinks you don't need one either.

Yes c jay, it is that simple-minded. I MUST hate the Second Amendment. The rest of his armchair psychoanalysis claptrap can be summed up as total bullshit.

Paranoia is those that think everyone needs a gun because they are at any moment going to be assaulted by a criminal even though none of them can actually cite an instance of it ever happening. Whether is is the scary black man or the Muslim terrorist, someone is coming for them. They can't even think of anyone they know that has ever had a gun pulled on them but of course the threat is the thing isn't it? Keep people armed and afraid and guns will be necessary because everyone is packing. A self-fulfilling prophecy for the paranoid crowd. For the crazies, it comes down to an interpretation of the Constitution never intended for modern society but more applicable to a time full of hostile native Americans fighting against a genocide of their people, untamed wilderness areas, and the necessity to hunt to survive. It's sad that they wrap themselves in such an honorable endeavor like the U.S. Constitution to support their paranoia and societal violence that is responsible for killing thousands of women and children every single year. Why do they hate women and children?

USA has by far the highest gun ownership rate in the world (90 guns/100). Guns are so dangerous, they should also have the highest murder rate, right? According to the UNODC, the average murder rate in the world is 6.2 per 100,000. So USA should have the highest murder rate, right. WRONG! That honor belongs to Honduras. BTW, they are 88th in gun ownership at 6.2/100. Even second is Venezuela and they only have 10.7/100. So USA should be at least double that, right? Still wrong! So USA should be above the average? OOPS, they don't even make it that high. I will let you look up their actual rank so you might remember it.

U.S. Has More Guns – And Gun Deaths – Than Any Other Country, Study Finds

The United States has more guns and gun deaths than any other developed country in the world, researchers found.

A study by two New York City cardiologists found that the U.S. has 88 guns per 100 people and 10 gun-related deaths per 100,000 people — more than any of the other 27 developed countries they studied.

Japan, on the other hand, had only .6 guns per 100 people and .06 gun-related deaths per 100,000 people, making it the country with both the fewest guns per capita and the fewest gun-related deaths.

Drs. Sripal Bangalore, who works at NYU Langone Medical Center, and Dr. Franz Messerli of St. Luke’s Medical Center studied the statistics of guns per capita and gun deaths. They used firearm injury data from the World Health Organization and guns per capita data from the Small Arms Survey to put together a list of 27 developed countries.

They said they carried out their study because of what they said are seemingly baseless claims on either side of the gun control debate.

“I think we need more of what I would call evidence-based discussion and not merely people pulling things out of their hats,” Bangalore said. “We hear time and time again about these shootings, especially in the last year or so. A lot of claims are made…so we wanted to look at the data and see if any of this holds water.”

They concluded that more guns do not make people safer.

David Hemenway, a professor at the Harvard School of Public Health who specializes in injury research and is considered one of the top gun violence researchers in the country, said the there’s “no question” that the relationship between guns and gun deaths is real.

“It shouldn’t be really a surprise to people,” Hemenway said.

There are some caveats to the data, such as countries’ records of illegal guns, but it seems to be “reasonable” and on par with previous research, Hemenway said.

The National Rifle Association did not immediately respond to ABCNews.com request for comment.

    Here’s the full list:

Country Guns per 100 Total Firearm-related Deaths per 100,000
    United States 88.8 10.2

What? Socialism (communism) isn't working well enough for you in Venezuela? Hey, they are all listed there. You go look them up.

BTW, the point is not who ranks where. The point is that gun ownership does not relate to murder rate.
