So much for the vaunted integrity of Representative Paul. So much for his support for the free market. So much for his desire to withdraw support from the UN.

These folks seem shocked to learn that their hero really does seem to have feet of clay.

He was just bored. He can't run for president until 2016 and had nothing better to do.

Libertarians are an interesting bunch. I talk politics with one on a semi-regular basis, and we get along well enough, but sometimes he can be a bit too overbearing. I blame his youth for much of that, as he is extremely intelligent, and he has more World experience than I do.

The dichotomous nature of their beliefs ensures that just about everyone can say they agree with a lot of what they stand for, yet disagree on a relatively equal amount of their positions.

This isn't to be confused with neutrality. The beliefs they hold are strong, and they fiercely defend them, unlike the more compromising nature of neutrals. In their view, at least from what I can discern, the World are all idiots...and I'd say they are half right lol

It is interesting that Ron is alleging trademark infringement (of a sort), that his name is his trademark. It's also interesting that he didn't take the offer, as it is extremely generous, IMO, being worth far more than $250,000.

Will he succeed? I hope not. I don't believe it would be a good precedent to set, and other, legitimate companies, would then have an avenue to recoup the money they themselves gave to "cybersquatters" for the rights to certain domain names/dot coms.

All-in-all, this action by Ron is a perfect example of the Libertarian dual nature, and the self-destructiveness it causes.

    IMO lol

I think you're exactly right. I always say that Libertarians are like a broken clock. Even a broken clock is correct at least twice a day. Their beliefs naturally straddle the line which cross over a handful of populist ideals but only in a purist sense. The perfect world they envision does not and could not exist and it would have to in order for their beliefs to be plausible.
This Venn diagram shows exactly why they appeal to mostly single issue voters...

I could almost be a Libertarian myself, but for the intensity they have with every position, even if one position of theirs is directly opposed to another of theirs... that would be too maddening for me to handle lol.

I try very very hard to remain neutral on issues, and form my opinions only after considering the merits of as many viewpoints as I can reasonably be expected to review. That isn't to say I'm not occasionally extreme in some of my views, or that I can ever succeed in being truly neutral, it only means that I make an earnest attempt to judge any and all argument's merits based on my experiences, knowledge, etc. I also acknowledge any extremism I have (if I am able) and take particular care in judging the merits of it.

Another way to look at my point of view, and that of Libertarians as well, is to say that I am a Democrat, a liberal, a republican, a conservative, etc. who believes in the merits of democracy, capitalism, communism, socialism, etc.

*(I've made a decision to become a Democrat only after republicans pushed me there...with their willingness to rig elections and be generally evil, while simultaneously accusing Democrats of the same. I'm very good at making predictions, or projections of "if/then", and I can tell you with no uncertainty that republicans cannot be allowed to continue to make policy and law, as people will suffer greatly for it.)

Libertarians are similar, but the difference between my view and theirs may be in the level of intensely we have regarding an issue, in that I seek compromise while they generally refuse the very idea of it.

I have always contended that any ideology taken to the extreme is unsustainable. I think that can be said for conservatives, liberals, libertarians, Christians, Muslims, pretty much anything.

However, I also contend that out of the (limited) political thinking we still have left in our extreme (and converging) 2 party system, libertarian viewpoints are the most sorely lacking today.
