Ahhhh, racism in Texas, what a novel idea. Texas judge allegedly said blacks and Hispanics ‘predisposed to commit crime’ Morgan Whitaker, @morganwinn 2:20 PM on 06/05/2013 Civil rights groups have filed an ethics complaint against a Texas federal court judge after allegations that she made discriminatory remarks about racial minorities during a February speech. The complaint filed against Edith Jones, a judge on the Fifth Circuit Appeals Court, claims that at a speech at the University of Pennsylvania Law School, Jones said that “racial groups like African-Americans and Hispanics are predisposed to crime.” Jones also allegedly justified death sentences because they provide a public service by allowing inmates to “make peace with God.” More of this story at: http://tv.msnbc.com/2013/06/05/texa...ks-and-hispanics-predisposed-to-commit-crime/ One point, about judicial ethics, which I had a discussion about here recently: Until they retire, of course. Once retired they can reveal their racism, bias, prejudices, etc. simply by speaking their mind, and some do.
I love her reasoning on why executions are a public service, so that they can "make peace with god". "Making peace with god" is a private, individual thing, not a "public service". ...as if all executed people believe in god. Some don't.
Death sentences are good because they "allow" the condemned to make peace with god. I think a similar line of reasoning was used by The Inquisition when it sent people off to be burned.
