Um, no she doesn't. (Thus ending a decade long music program for less fortunate kids). As some of you know, my wife has been offering free music lessons to kids at an inner city community center for years....guitar, piano & voice. She has supplied the instruments, materials, snacks, transportation when necessary and puts on a catered recital every December. We even donated a piano to the center. Every cent has come out of our pocket. Last week, when we showed up, one of the guys who works there told us we would have to start paying $300/mo for use of the room, supposedly to cover insurance, the utility costs & the cost of having staff on-hand. After some discussion about how unfair it was to charge (the place always has activity so we aren't using any resources that aren't already in use when we are there) he admitted it was the idea of the lady who is in charge of the place & came about during a meeting on how to raise funds. We spoke to her & it ended with her making the statement I used in the title of this post. I might also mention my oldest daughter started a golf program there where she & a couple of friends give free lessons to the kids & supply them with free clubs. We also found out that no other program has been asked to pay a monthly fee. My wife loves what she was doing & wants to continue giving lessons but has a pretty sour taste because of how she was treated. What we'll probably end up doing is finding another place, even if it costs us more.
If you can't stay at the current location, it will be sad that the less fortunate kids will miss out on the program. Check around, there may another location you could use. It sounds like a great program your wife is offering!
And I will bet clueless and Teddy think you are putting profit ahead of generosity. BTW, I wonder why I have never heard of any liberal here donating so much as a dime.
Oh my! Oh my! I think you upset someone. Yet for all his innuendo, he has yet to show any evidence of a generous liberal.
It sucks they are willing to give up a great thing for that. Hopefully she finds a new location. Leave it okc to drag political dreck into this. I give about 10% of my earnings to charitable causes every year, participate in Christmas for the poor every year and volunteer what little time I have around my community. I'm not a liberal enigma either.
His wife enjoys teaching, they "enjoy" giving to charity, they enjoy providing expensive musical instruments and the like, but they can't afford $300 a month to help support the community building they give free music lesson in? What ever.
UHM? Have you bothered to read clueless's posts? I you will find he dragged "politics" into this long before this thread.
This IS the political forum, after all. Just a note, but you can keep track of that at the top of your screen. You can select POLITICS, CHATTER, RELIGION, etc. If you're having difficulty finding the correct forum, perhaps the moderator can assist you.
