Are any of you "preppers"?

Any "preppers" on the forum? If so, what are you prepping for? How are you doing it and where is the line between being prepared & paranoia?

From you? Um, no.
Now, if I was looking for tips on poor parenting methods, how to intimidate naïve young co-eds, peeping tom skills or how to blindly follow a failed political figure I certainly know who to ask.

 

Not a prepper but I think you are foolish if you are able to but choose not to prepare for short term disruptions to your normal way of life.

 

I don't buy into the pepper mentality. I know people that do and they're living day to day in a state of panic, not preparedness.

I'm not a "duck and cover" but I could survive through "short term interruptions" as Stu said.

I'm better prepared for winter.

I recall you posting pictures of such an event a few years back.

I figure I'd be ok for about a week or so if need be.

 

Is there any real difference between a prepper and militia member? I doubt you could tell the difference.

 

Ice and tornadoes have played havoc around here plus we live in a much more rural area now so the outages, should they occur, will be of a longer duration. I've got several cases of MRE's and a bunch of camping equipment stowed away so food & shelter is taken care of. Luckily we also have this cave on the property that serves as a tornado shelter so we keep the stuff stored there.

I figure what the "real preppers" prepare for actually happened, I figure my best preparation is living in a smaller town and knowing my neighbors.

No real prepper would or should admit it online, however if we learned anything from Sandy and Katrina is if you dont have some backup plan your a moron.

I agree with jack...backup plans are smart. I'm not neive enough to think a small store of food will benefit me where I live long enough to make a difference. We don't have ice storms or tornados or hurricanes. But, I do believe in having a plan to bug out as prepares say, if things got nasty or the dam broke, etc. fortunately I'm surrounded by thousands of square miles of totally empty space where I know where water and game are, so it makes it relatively easy.

 

Doesn't it seem there's a parallel here? On one hand, you've got a few guys here who see the benefit of self-reliance & have safeguards in place in the event some, potentially, very real disasters occur (or in my case occur again), while on the other side you have, well, fog-of-war moen. The same guy who thinks owning a firearm to protect your family is crazy now pokes fun at people who have the sense to plan ahead....do you think his emergency plan has anything to do with BO?

 

If I'm not mistaken, aren't most long term food stocks good for only 6 or 7 years. The only thing worst than not being prepared is to think you are. Do you guys cycle through your MREs. I've thought about it but can't justify the expense since we're talking about a most likely to never occur event. It reminds me of the fall-out shelter I use to play in in the 60's.
