We have about two weeks before we reach the next debt ceiling deadline and once again, the Republicans are threatening to shutdown the government unless they get what they want which this time is the defunding of the new health care law even if this shutdown will not defund the new law anyway. They also managed to convince themselves that if the Democrats and the Administration do not give into their demands, it is Obama's fault that the government is shutdown. I'm pretty sure that that the American people while not always the brightest lot are unlikely to fall for that stretch of dystopian nonsense but more power to them I guess. I guess the question is simple, regardless of whether you like or dislike the new health care law, do you think the shutdown should happen? For my part, I hope they do shutdown the government and let the chips fall where they may. It worked out so well last time. If Americans didn't want the new health care law, they wouldn't have elected the guy who ran on it twice and won both times.

They also managed to convince themselves that if the Republicans do not give into their demands, it will be the Republicans fault that the government is shutdown. I am pretty sure that that the American people (while not always the most informed lot) are unlikely to fall for that stretch of dystopian nonsense but more power to them I guess.
You can't even tell us what the national debt is.........because they stopped counting it over 100 days ago. What type of smoke and mirror trick is that suppose to be? Run it up so high uou can't count it anymore and then ask for even more money?
Can I tell you why this is stupid Jack? This fight is about money that we've already spent. Congress has passed the legislation to spend this money already. It's akin to going out to your local liquor store and buying your bottle of Jack Daniels on credit, going home and consuming it until you go into a liquor fueled blackout and waking up the next morning and deciding that you're not going to pay for the liquor you just drank because I just wanted to explain this in terms that you'd understand. How is it the liquor store's fault that you have to walk funny the next day?
Nah! The fight is about Obama refusing to lead. However, there are a lot of side affects resulting from that.
You know as well as everybody here knows......IF the partys were different and the Repubs had a 17 Trillion debt, had stopped the debt clock and were asking for MORE money your opinion would be 100% opposite. I can point this out because I left the Repos during Ws admin over his spending and debt among other policies Please share with us Mr Nation what it's like to stand for nothing. To have zero core values or beliefs. To be a partisan hack in other words.......
If this is truly something you care about. And you live and die for this cause. You should be Obama's biggest cheerleader. Let's find out what kind of political hack YOU are. GOP Whips Up Scandals to Avoid Facing Obama’s ‘Most Rapid Deficit Reduction since WWII’ If you were wondering why Republicans can’t stop screaming hysterically about fictional persecutions and scandals, it’s because the deficit is no longer their Big Thing. The “emergency” of the deficit – so important that Republicans had to risk global fiscal confidence – took a backseat to constantly shifting, hysterical and unfounded scandals du jour recently. It turns out that ‘the President’s policies are contributing to the most rapid deficit reduction since World War II.’ Ouch. Change subject! The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office reported a continued decline in the federal budget deficit: “The CBO projects a $642 billion budget deficit for fiscal year 2013, down more than $200 billion from its February estimate and the smallest annual shortfall since 2008. It is the lowest level of deficit spending to date under President Obama, who faced $1 trillion or more in annual deficits during his first term.” Here’s a real bitter irony for the GOP. At the same time as their ideology took an ugly beating in the reality department, the man they are determined to destroy has a better record at deficit reduction than any of their recent Presidents. In fact, government spending under President Obama has grown at a slower rate than it did under any president since Dwight D. Eisenhower, according to Bloomberg (that’s over 50 years ago, if you’re counting). Now what Jack?
Bo has to sign a budget before you can savings or spending cuts. Whens the last time a budget has been passed and signed?
Oh the budget lie again. The president is required by law to submit a budget to congress every year by a certain date. He can't make them pass it, he can't make them consider it, he can't even make them read it. They, the congress, has to pass it and send it to him to sign. When was the last time the House under the extremely dysfunctional leadership of the worst Speaker to ever occupy that position passed a budget that Obama vetoed? Ask yourself that instead of the brain dead Right-wing inane talking point spewed by low information political hacks. Geesh! But nice way to change the subject Jack. It's pretty typical tactic of the intransigent political hack to ask a question, not get the answer they wanted, then shift to another question. Do you even feel this happening when you do it? What's it like?
You are missing a major step in that process. The House is not the only party required to vote and pass a budget before Obama signs it. Pray tell me just how many budgets the House has passed. And then tell me just how many budgets Reid has even allowed to be voted on.
BO has submitted budgets and EVERY Democrat has voted NO. Again, BO has not garnered a single democrat vote of yes on his proposed budgets.
So you go from Obama not passing a budget to Democrats not voting for his budget he didn't submit. This two-step approach gets more than just a little boring. It begins to just resemble a yeah but, yeah but, yeah but,... set of talking points that never can be resolved because the goal post keeps moving further and further down the field. That is how a Right-wing talking point works, or doesn't work on people with brains.
The Budget and Accounting Act of 1921 requires the President to submit his budget request for the upcoming fiscal year no later than the first Monday of February. How many has he submitted on time?
