It must be nice to consider yourself the beacon of truth even if it is only you that holds that view. Arrogance incarnate.
There's only one way to settle this and that's democratically through a vote. You know, that thing that constitutionally makes this country a democracy, but is being withheld by one party and one arty alone...the republicans. That is simple fact. If they knw they are right what is the harm of allowing a vote to show they are right? It's because they know they are wrong and will lose the vote that is preventing the extremists of one side to allow this. What simpler truth do you want? There is no spinning this. Obama is not the one holding up democracy. He isn't withholding something as sacred as a vote.
You need to read that Constitution again. We are not a Democracy I hate to tell you. The Constitution is working exactly as the Founders designed ti to work. It was specifically designed to make it difficult for one group to attain power and rule. It is funny how the Democrats are blaming the Republicans even though the Democrats did no better when they held total control over both houses.
Attain rule? We're talking about voting. That's not attaining rule. This gets more skewered by the day.
Heheheh... I was getting ready to teach Guy that our country is a Republic, not a Democracy but you beat me to it. And, yes, it's working exactly as intended. It's almost as if the Founding Fathers could foresee a dictator (ahem) president like Obama achieving power and the only way to reign him in would be through the Constitution. Pretty smart guys, they were. Regardless, Americans are blaming the Dumocrats and Obama for this slimdown as much they're blaming the Republicans. In fact, they're beginning to become aware that Obama is simply refusing to compromise and they're seeing that as a failure of leadership. But, I could have told them that a long time ago.
It seems to me that President Obama could score a bunch of good will points with the public by agreeing to put off ACA for a year. He would look like the bigger man & if ACA turns out to be as good as promised he won't have lost anything. If it isn't all it's said to be the Democrats will probably lose in the next round of election anyway and ACA will get repeeled.
As much as I detest Obamacare and think it will ruin the country, there is still a significant portion of the public supporting it - like about 45%. My guess is 99% if that 45% are Obama supporters and that is over 90% of his support. Anything done to delay, defer, or dilute Obamacare will offend them. It may actually help him with the majority who support Obamacare, but it will hurt him with his present support. Beside that, all the lame street media supports him so he is currently winning the popularity contest. Why change? I can only hope his no negotiation stance starts offending people.
I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on whom the public blames until election time. Of course, you all didn't take the hint the last few times either.
Check out the thread I posted on the Williamsburg Accord. The shutdown was the Right-wing plan from the beginning. http://www.partisanlines.com/threads/the-“williamsburg-accord”-shutdown-plan.50574/#post-231590 But now their strategy is to blame Obama.
If the republicans are so eager to negotiate, I say "Let's!". I think it's fair to say tax-rates must be increased. The republican's "default setting" on taxes is so unrealistically low, it can only be considered a "compromise" if they would allow for an increase in funds raised through taxation. So let's compromise.
