House votes to hold Lerner in contempt of Congress

Maybe the most important line in there is the 250-158 vote to appoint a special prosecutor. That means 26 Democrats actually crossed party lines to vote for it. And that is despite Obama's “Not even mass corruption -- not even a smidgen of corruption.”
House votes to hold Lerner in contempt of Congress

The House of Representatives voted Wednesday to hold former IRS official Lois Lerner in contempt of Congress for refusing to testify about the agency’s targeting of conservative groups.
The House voted 231-187 for a resolution holding Lerner in contempt. All the Republicans voted yes, along with six Democrats.

Lerner’s case will now be sent to the Justice Department, which then must decide whether to essentially prosecute Lerner in the case.
Minutes after the Lerner vote, the House passed a resolution asking the Department of Justice to appoint a special counsel to probe the IRS by a vote of 250-168.
House Speaker John Boehner issued a statement following the vote saying, "It’s time for Lois Lerner to account for her actions, and if she won’t then the full force of the law should be brought to bear."

So, now the case will go to the Justice Department which will decide whether or not to prosecute Lerner.

How ironic. An Attorney General held in contempt of Congress deciding whether or not to prosecute someone for contempt of Congress.

Why don't you call them and the Republicans and tell them how grateful you are that a McCarthy Era tactic that failed in the 1950's and that violates the Fifth Amendment rights spelled out in the Constitution has been brought back. Why do you hate the Constitution?

Go read some history moron. Holding people in contempt for pleading the fifth is the issue. People have a right to plead the fifth. Ask the Christie Administration.

 

The problem I have with Lerner is she gave testimony proclaiming no wrong doing on her part before pleading the fifth. So based on her own testimony she has no basis for pleading the fifth unless she committed perjury in her opening testimony.

Has everyone in the GOP completely forgot that tea baggers were found to not have been denied any tax free status' and that it was found that many other groups were also singled out for extra scrutiny? I think Lerner knows a witch hunt when she sees one. Why should she risk being incriminated in what is basically a fishing expedition? People end up being incriminated for something completely unrelated to the situation they are being questioned about as has happened many, many times.
