What is it about the color of a person's skin that determines how he should vote?

Republican Sen. Tim Scott doesn’t vote according to the color of his skin, Assistant Democratic Leader Rep. James Clyburn complained in a Thursday Washington Post article.
“If you call progress electing a person with the pigmentation that he has, who votes against the interest and aspirations of 95 percent of the black people in South Carolina, then I guess that’s progress,” he told the Post.”

White people in this country have had the privilege of not having to consider the color of the candidate's skin for the vast majority of this country's history since all the candidates were white. Now that we are starting to see candidates that aren't exclusively white, white people like rimmer think that the color of someone's skin running for office shouldn't be a consideration. NOW he is suddenly color blind? How convenient.

So you seriously think a person has to "vote according to the color of his skin"? Somehow I expected that answer from you, but you failed to say why

Did you expect any more from Ol' Racist Joe? If so-called "white" people voted according to the color of their skin (whatever that's supposed to mean), then so-called "black" people would never be elected. Hmmmmm....

Hey, Clyburn, how about only "white" people vote for "white" candidates and only "black" people vote for "black" candidates? Is that what you want?

Now now, you KNOW republicans would have voted for Herman, a job for a job, Cain ...had Cain become the candidate instead of Romney...just not as many.

Some republicans just don't like jobs.

Oh, but no. I caught you words loud and clear. They said WHAT you think should happen, but not why. My history nor anyone else's history has little (or nothing) to do with operation of the economy, Obamacare, abortion, etc. the major issues concerning America.

I really liked Herman Cain. I would have voted for him, and was disappointed when he dropped out. Romney was a fine enough candidate, but not my pick. Sigh...I really wanted Sarah! ;)

I'm not sure how to respond to your post without offending you....and I don't want to offend you, for a number of reasons...so instead of being overly verbose, I decided to post this instead:

I probably should have said I liked Herman Cain before he got in trouble! I believed the things he said, the stances he seemed to take. I was disappointed and shocked at how his run ended. It points out once again that all is never as it seems. FWIW, I stumbled on his radio show some time ago. Kept on moving the dial.. I'm of the belief that they all tell you (me?) what they think you (I?) want to hear. That applies to both parties, all politicians. Including our president and all the ones before him. Some more than others.. RR has been my favorite thus far in my life. Now, I'm going to listen to the utube video above this post..

You're probably right. When you see Romney talking in public since the election, he seems like a different person. Like his recent support for raising the minimum wage. He was so packaged and managed during the election that I think we didn't see who he really was. Having said that, he shouldn't have allowed himself to be manipulated like that in the first place. If you don't believe that Romney was just saying what he thought people wanted to hear, think back to his 47% comments. He was telling a group a wealthy people exactly what they wanted to hear whether he believed it or not. He certainly did walk back those comments once they became public. Do you really want a guy that is so easily pulled around by the ring in his nose? That is how I viewed Reagan. He wasn't capable of running the entire administration himself so he left huge parts of his responsibility to people like Oliver North. I think people like Reagan and Romney end up being nothing but figureheads that provide cover for men with more nefarious agendas but people fall in love with the "face" rather than people pulling their strings. That I can't tolerate.

Well that flies in the face of your assertion and Obama is the mastermind of all that is evil and corrupt. You just can't get your whining straight can you?

Well, for one, Holder is very capable of doing that all by his lonesome. And then you have Reid, Pelosi, Geithner, Emanuel, Lerner, et al .........................

No, BO is merely the face of this evil & corruption ( your words) we're seeing. Obamacare was the result of a deal BO struck with Ted Kennedy in order to get the far left to dump Hillary & support his bid for president, BO's stance on marriage equality changed when his Hollywood donors paid him...

Do you mean to say that Obama has constituents that support him financially so that he'll get on board for marriage equality? Careful! That almost sounds like representative government. We can't have that when the Right is in the pockets of the Oligarchs.

Nice attempt to spin the fact he sold his support to the highest bidders!

Romney...yep, he changed a good bit for his bid for presidency. That is what I didn't like about him. The things he said were most all representative of idea(l)s I agree with. But they weren't what he was saying before his bid. I hope we can find an honest man (or woman!) for the candidacy this next election.

Please don't believe I'm stupid enough to believe they don't all do what Romney did..I just don't want to be able to identify it so easily! He would have been a fine candidate without flip flopping. I want to believe that our president is on the inside what he shows on the outside. That's my opinion, in a perfect world. Which we don't have..
