CIA confirms Republican Benghazi Committee is lying about Hillary Clinton

The CIA has weighed in on the Republican Benghazi Committee’s investigation of Hillary Clinton, after Democrats in the House asked the spy agency to declassify some of the numerous details which had been redacted in the various government documents which have been presented as evidence against Clinton. So much of the context has been blacked out that it’s been difficult to tell what the documents actually say. The response from the CIA is stunning: the Republicans are simply lying.

All along, Benghazi Committee Chariman Trey Gowdy, a republican congressman from South Carolina, has insisted that the documents in question were heavily blacked out because they contained information which had been classified by the CIA. But Elijah Cummings, a democratic congressman from Maryland, wrote a letter to the CIA asking it to reveal more details. The agency responded by stating that there never was any classified information in the documents and that it hadn’t blacked out anything.

Under pressure, Gowdy has now admitted that he himself redacted portions of the documents without anyone’s knowledge or approval, as dug up by Daily Kos. His claim is that he decided certain details were too sensitive to be released to the public. But now that the CIA has said otherwise, he’ll have no choice but to release the full documents in their proper context. And now that the CIA has confirmed Gowdy has been lying all along, he’ll have to explain that as well. This means that the CIA, the FBI, the State Department, and the Department of Justice have now all sided with Hillary Clinton over the Benghazi committee in various ways.

 

Where did you find that photo shopped image of Hillary? And, Should criminal charges also then be filed against Hillary for lying about the Benghazi incident being caused by a bogus video? Tit for tat, you know.

MYTH: Obama Admin. Denied That Attacks Could Be Terrorism And Blamed Violence On Anti-Muslim Film

Fox's Bolling: Obama Admin. Wants To Blame Attacks On Anti-Muslim Film Instead Of Calling It "What It Really Was. A Terrorist Attack." From the September 21 edition of The Five:

She goes out, she's the one who says, this is all just the video, that's the information we have at the time. Three days later, we find out that that is completely wrong. How does that happen?

Hannity: Anti-Muslim Film Is "Convenient Excuse" To Avoid Admitting Attack Was Terrorism. During the September 17 edition of Hannity, host Sean Hannity said the Obama administration is blaming the anti-Islam video for attacks on our consulate to avoid admitting it was a terrorist attack. From the segment:

HANNITY: Wasn't that part of the whole spin, that it had to do with the movie trailer? Well, that's a convenient excuse, considering the movie trailer was released back in July. So it's a convenient excuse. It gets them off the hook. Now they had to admit, because the evidence has been overwhelming and incontrovertible -- granted, our media in this country, they don't do their job. So now there's some culpability here. FACT: Admin. Launched An Investigation Into The Attacks, Saying It Was Avoiding Speculation ...
Press Secretary Jay Carney: "It Is Too Early For Us" To Speculate On Nature Of Attacks Under Investigation. White House Press Secretary Jay Carney told reporters the day after the consulate attack in Libya that the violence was "under investigation," and that he wanted to avoid "making statements that are based on speculation." From Carney's statements:

CARNEY: It's too early for us to make that judgment [that the Benghazi attacks were planned and premeditated]. I think -- I know that this is being investigated, and we're working with the Libyan government to investigate the incident. So I would not want to speculate on that at this time.

I want to be careful about making statements that are based on speculation about this incident and its causes. It's under investigation, obviously, and as we find out information that can be made available I'm sure we will. [White House Press Briefing, 9/12/12]

Ambassador Rice: FBI Investigation "Will Tell Us With Certainty What Transpired." Appearing on ABC's This Week, Ambassador Rice stated that the FBI investigation "will tell us with certainty what transpired" in Cairo and Benghazi:

RICE: Well, Jake, first of all, it's important to know that there's an FBI investigation that has begun and will take some time to be completed. That will tell us with certainty what transpired.

But our current best assessment, based on the information that we have at present, is that, in fact, what this began as, it was a spontaneous -- not a premeditated -- response to what had transpired in Cairo. In Cairo, as you know, a few hours earlier, there was a violent protest that was undertaken in reaction to this very offensive video that was disseminated.

We believe that folks in Benghazi, a small number of people came to the embassy to -- or to the consulate, rather, to replicate the sort of challenge that was posed in Cairo. And then as that unfolded, it seems to have been hijacked, let us say, by some individual clusters of extremists who came with heavier weapons, weapons that as you know in -- in the wake of the revolution in Libya are -- are quite common and accessible. And it then evolved from there.

... And Never Foreclosed The Possibility Of Terrorism While Conducting The Inquiry
AP: The Obama Administration "Is Investigating Whether The Assault On The U.S. Consulate In Libya Was A Planned Terrorist Attack." Within 48 hours of the attack on our Libyan consulate, the Obama administration launched an investigation into whether the violence was a result of terrorism. From The Associated Press:

The Obama administration, roiled by the first killing of a U.S. ambassador in more than 30 years, is investigating whether the assault on the U.S. Consulate in Libya was a planned terrorist strike to mark the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks and not a spontaneous mob enraged over an anti-Islam YouTube video. Obama on Benghazi: "No Acts Of Terror Will Ever Shake The Resolve Of This Great Nation." Speaking from the White House rose garden the day after the attack in Benghazi, President Obama said:

OBAMA: No acts of terror will ever shake the resolve of this great nation, alter that character, or eclipse the light of the values that we stand for. Today we mourn four more Americans who represent the very best of the United States of America. We will not waver in our commitment to see that justice is done for this terrible act. Obama Admin. Ultimately Called The Attacks Terrorism, But Investigations Are Ongoing ...
Director Of National Counterterrorism Center: Terrorists May Have Seized Opportunity Of Anti-Islam Film Protests For This "Terrorist Attack." Testifying at a hearing of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, director of national counterterrorism Matt Olsen told the lawmakers the attack was terrorism, but the investigation is still ongoing to determine whether it was preplanned. From the Foreign Policy blog The Cable:

"I would say yes, they were killed in the course of a terrorist attack on our embassy," Matt Olsen, the director of the National Counterterrorism Center, said Wednesday at a hearing of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, in response to questioning from Chairman Joe Lieberman (I-CT) about the attack that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans.

The U.S. government just isn't sure yet whether the terrorist attack was pre-planned or whether it was an example of terrorists taking advantage of protests against an anti-Islam film, Olsen said.

"It appears that individuals who were certainly well-armed seized on the opportunity presented as the events unfolded that evening and into the morning hours of September 12th. We do know that a number of militants in the area, as I mentioned, are well-armed and maintain those arms. WH Press Secretary Carney: It Is "Self-Evident That What Happened In Benghazi Was A Terrorist Attack." Press secretary Jay Carney told reporters that as of September 20, intelligence still did not point to a "significantly preplanned attack." From Carney's press gaggle:

CARNEY: It is, I think, self-evident that what happened in Benghazi was a terrorist attack. Our embassy was attacked violently, and the result was four deaths of American officials. So, again, that's self-evident. I would point you to a couple of things that Mr. Olsen said, which is that at this point it appears that a number of different elements were involved in the attack, including individuals connected to militant groups that are prevalent in Eastern Libya.

He also made clear that at this point, based on the information he has -- and he is briefing the Hill on the most up-to-date intelligence -- we have no information at this point that suggests that this was a significantly preplanned attack, but this was the result of opportunism, taking advantage of and exploiting what was happening as a result of reaction to the video that was found to be offensive. ... And Media Report Anti-Islam Film Was Root Of Middle East Protests
BBC: Anti-Islam Film Was Root Of Broader Protests In The Middle East. The BBC reported on September 21 that "[f]resh protests are under way in Muslim countries against an anti-Islam film made in the US." The article continued:

In Cairo, where the protests against the film began, Egyptian security forces are patrolling the streets around the US embassy.

Radical Islamists have clashed with security forces there in recent days, although President Mohammed Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood has stayed away from the unrest, only condemning the film and calling for peaceful demonstrations.

The low-budget film that sparked the controversy was made in the US and is said to insult the Prophet Muhammad.

Its exact origins are unclear and the alleged producer for the trailer of the film, Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, is in hiding.

Anti-US sentiment grew after a trailer for the film dubbed into Arabic was released on YouTube earlier this month. [BBC, 9/21/12]

Are you then saying Hillary did not say that video angered Muslims to the point of committing that violence? She was videotaped saying it within 24 hours of the attack, so there is evidence.

The attack began at around 4pm, EDT, by 8:30pm our ambassador was dead, at 10pm Hillary Clinton issued this statement:

I condemn in the strongest terms the attack on our mission in Benghazi today. As we work to secure our personnel and facilities, we have confirmed that one of our State Department officers was killed. We are heartbroken by this terrible loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and those who have suffered in this attack.

This evening, I called Libyan President Magariaf to coordinate additional support to protect Americans in Libya. President Magariaf expressed his condemnation and condolences and pledged his government’s full cooperation.

Some have sought to justify this vicious behavior as a response to inflammatory material posted on the Internet [my emphasis]. The United States deplores any intentional effort to denigrate the religious beliefs of others. Our commitment to religious tolerance goes back to the very beginning of our nation. But let me be clear: There is never any justification for violent acts of this kind.

In light of the events of today, the United States government is working with partner countries around the world to protect our personnel, our missions, and American citizens worldwide.

Well, you do make some compelling points, but I would be most happy if we could strive for, and develop a way to live without needing each other for food, shelter, medical treatments, college grants, farm subsidies and even sex in the final analysis.

 

Try being a hermit. You know what Janis Joplin said? Freedom is just another word for nothin' left to lose.

Depending on each other makes us stronger, not weaker in the end. That is why societies were formed in the first place. It is only through self-interest and and a disregard for other people that weakens and divides us. Ask yourself what the best part of living in a small close-knit community is? It is your neighbors and your family and the generations of individuals helping one another that make them strong and vibrant. The more we care about each other, the stronger we are. We are currently a divided nation and it only serves to weaken us all. Blame who you like in political circles but stand with your neighbors and you can't be defeated by anyone. Be Americans first, then be Republicans, Christians, Democrats, Atheists, and anything else you want to be but remember that we are all in this together.

 

I can't argue with that, but I was just thinking that people strive to progress. What is the peak of progress? What is left if/when people reach the peak of progress? I would assume autonomy is the peak of progress, and there is nothing left afterwards, but I will accept being corrected if I am wrong.
