CBS HOST SLAMS PAUL RYAN FOR LATEST ATTEMPT AT REPEALING OBAMACARE: “HOW IS THAT AN ALTERNATIVE?”
Posted by April Hamlin on 11 Jan 2016

House Speaker Paul Ryan was forced to admit over the weekend that when Republicans passed a bill to repeal Obamacare, they did so without having any alternatives to offer the millions of Americans who would lose their health care coverage.

As promised, President Barack Obama vetoed the bill on Friday. In a letter the president wrote to members of the House, the President said,

This legislation would not only repeal parts of the Affordable Care Act, but would reverse the significant progress we have made in improving health care in America…Because of the harm this bill would cause to the health and financial security of millions of Americans, it has earned my veto.”

During a CBS interview which aired on Sunday, Face The Nation host John Dickerson pressured the Speaker of the House into admitting that while conservatives have found the time and taxpayer dollars to attempt to repeal the Affordable Care Act more than 50 times, they still haven’t bothered to come up with an alternative option to replace it.

“You said that you wanted the Republicans to offer an alternative to the president,” said Dickerson. “One of the first things you did this year, though, was offer that [Obamacare] repeal.”

“How is than an alternative?” Dickerson pondered.

“It’s not,” Ryan replied, with a laugh. “It’s why we have to come up with an alternative. So, you’re right about that one.”

    “Will you?” Dickerson asked.

“Absolutely,” Ryan asserted. “My goal — I don’t know how far it will go given we have a filibuster and a guy named Obama who’s not going to replace Obamacare — but my goal is that, we as Republicans, if we don’t like these laws, don’t like the direction the country is going, I think we have to be more than just an opposition party.”

“We have to be a proposition party,” the Speaker of the House added. “So, if we don’t like this, we’ve got to show how we would do things differently. And we really think Obamacare is failing, whether it’s premiums, restricted access, high deductibles, families losing the insurance they wanted to keep.”

“People are hurting and we need to offer a solution. So, yes, on this and many other issues, we need to offer alternatives. And that’s exactly what I intend on having us do.”

The bill passed through the House with a vote almost completely along party lines, 240 to 181. Three Republicans voted against the bill, and only a single Democrat voted in its’ favor. If the bill had not been vetoed by the President, it would have not only repealed the Affordable Care Act but defunded Planned Parenthood as well.

Here an example of the Right-wing self-reliance. Just replace Susie with Daniel.

Voting Against Their Own Interests: The Common Story of the Republican Voter July 15, 2013 By Allen Clifton

I want to tell you the story of Susie Q. Conservative. Susie’s parents were from the rural South. They were raised in households that had strong religious beliefs, opposed sex education and preached waiting till marriage before having sex. Of course, as it is with many young people, Susie’s parents didn’t wait till marriage. They were young, in love and one night just after graduating high school, one of their sexual encounters resulted in an unplanned pregnancy. Coming from the background which Susie’s parents came from, abortion was never an option. Instead, these two young individuals got married and prepared for their upcoming baby. Susie’s father decided to drop out of college to work more, but still struggled to make enough to pay all of their bills. Susie’s mother worked for a short time, but after a few months into her pregnancy, health issues became a factor and she was no longer able to work. This left Susie’s father as the lone bread winner, which made financial situations even tougher for the couple. Susie’s parents had no choice but to seek out government programs to help them pay for prenatal care, medical expenses and even food. Unable to afford 2 vehicles, and being that Susie’s dad was always traveling to work (on public roads), her mother relied on public transportation to often run errands and get to her doctors appointments. Then the day arrives when Susie is born. While still on cloud nine after the birth of their daughter, Susie’s parents quickly realize the financial burden of being new parents to an unplanned baby is overwhelming. They turn to Medicaid to help pay medical expenses and utilize almost all means of welfare available for low-income new parents. Luckily for them, having a child provides them with a plethora of tax deductions Susie’s parents can utilize to gain incredible tax breaks for their family. After a few years, Susie is now ready to start school. Her mother hasn’t been able work since she was born due to the incredibly high costs of daycare, but she has managed to take a few classes thanks to Pell Grants she received. Susie attends public school her entire pre-adult life, where she usually rode the bus to school and received free meals for lunch. Soon after Susie started school her mother worked on finishing an Associates Degree from a local community college and eventually got a job with the city. Her father continued to work for a blue-collar wage, only a few dollars more per hour than he made when she was born. He’s an honorable man who should be paid more than he is, yet his lack of an education — due to the fact he’s had to constantly work his whole life because he fathered a child at a young age — prevented him from ever getting an education. Finally, Susie is off to college. She first attends the same community college her mother attended, qualifying for Pell Grants due to her family’s extremely low level of income. After 2 years, she transfers to a state university where she continues to use Pell Grants, as well as federal student loans, to help pay for her educational expenses and her cost of living. While away at school, Susie uses Interstate Highways to travel back home to visit her parents. During her senior year of college her dad suffers a tragic accident at which he is left disabled and unable to work, relying only on disability benefits to survive. Soon after graduation, Susie gets a decent paying job working for the state and becomes involved in politics. One day, Susie is asked to give a speech which went like this: “I, Susie Q. Conservative, stand before you today an independent woman. A woman who sees the evils of the invasive government. I see the liberal agenda which seeks to make Americans dependent on the system and replaces hard work with a government handout. I stand before you today a self-made individual. Through hard work and dedication I made it to where I am today on my own. I’ve never once needed a government handout nor asked for a free ride. Our government spends too much and far too many depend on the system instead of taking personal responsibility for themselves. It’s time we stand up to government and declare once and for all, “We can do it on our own, we don’t need your help!”
Daniel doesn’t understand a damn thing. Have you met someone like Daniel? Hit me up on Twitter and let me know.

While we are at it, do we need to take out your trash and wipe your ass, too? Where does dependence on government end? Preferably, dependence on anyone should end at adult hood.

It is admittedly difficult to be government free, but my honest question is: at what point is government too involved in our lives?

I am not as offended as you seem to be about the role of government. I don't believe that there is some magic line of involvement the government better not cross. It is the same as saying that you want smaller government. That has no real meaning without a specific size of government you are aiming for. Less involvement, smaller government, less regulation, freedom, blah, blah, blah...

Ask any conservative to give you specifics and you hear nothing but soundbites and trite, meaningless, prosaic statements generally directed at quelling their own social, emotional, or cognitive unease but nothing of substance. If people actually understood what they were demanding, you wouldn't see so many of them undermining their own interests election after election.

Reagan once said the the bus driver shouldn't be paying a higher rate of taxes than the millionaire. He was right and that is exactly the situation we are in today. The Republicans aren't campaigning on changing this dynamic, they are campaigning on increasing the inequity of this dynamic and asking working-class conservatives to vote for them. And you know something....They will.

Republicans STILL have no Alternative to Obamacare.

Yes, you are probably right. They don't have AN alternative. They have 50 or more. And every one of them is vastly superior to Obamacare.

I am right but I didn't say AN alternative, I said they have NO alternative. Ryan admitted it but you have that imaginary alternative in your mind and that is probably why you can't actually give the details of your fictitious "vastly superior" 50 alternatives to Obamacare.

Here is what you dumbasses have done. You've dug a deep, deep hole and every time someone points out that you are so deep in that hole, you dig harder and faster. So keep digging and coming up with those imaginary alternatives. Once your hole gets deep enough, we're just gonna erect an outhouse over it and put it to good use.

I think the proper role of government is like you said Ronald Reagan said, the bus driver and the millionaire should pay the same rate, but many people don't like that idea. Additionally, government was most fair to its citizens when it did not discriminate regarding who is prosecuted under the law. This is the most specific answer I can give for where government should have its limits.

You need to read up on Obamacare.
The ObamaCare Medical Device excise tax of 2.3% taxes manufacturers who profit under the law. The Medical device excise tax went into effect January 1st, 2013.
And this is how the liberals expect to cut medical costs?

What he is saying is that repealing Obamacare IS the "vastly better" alternative plan the Republicans have to replace Obamacare with. In other words, they only have repeal, no other alternative exists. I like the alternative to Obamacare he mentioned. He lists defunding Planned Parenthood as an alternative to Obamacare. The device tax is just a provision in the ACA, ....SO AGAIN, ALL HE IS TALKING ABOUT IS REPEAL.

That hole is really biting the GOP in the ass hard. I've selected an outhouse style to go over it. I'm thinking of going with rustic prairie. A two seater. :)

    OK.?? WHAT....??
This already exists in some states and certainly is nothing close to a replacement plan for the entire ACA. Not even close.
This is just repealing one tiny piece of the ACA not an alternative.

The socialistic concept behind Obamacare is the thing that stinks.

Those people talking about replacing it just want to replace one form of socialism with another form of socialism.

No, just repeal the damned thing.

So from not being able to name one alternative to a position of siding with one side of a poll that is about 50-50. You do like to leap away when you get completely nailed down. I don't need you to admit that there is no GOP alternative, Paul Ryan already did that. I think he wouldn't just admit that there isn't an alternative to Onamacare if there actually was one but it was fun watching you try to make one up. Sad, but still a bit fun.

Your roads are socialistic. Your public education system, your police and fire departments, your mail, your military is socialistic. Do they stink too? If you're so against living in society, move to your own island. We won't miss you at all.
