I believe some of what you say and reserve judgment on the rest for now. Time will tell whether any police, military or Republican Party officials were complicit, or whether they simply appear to be.
You're trying your damndest to convince me this blowhard of a president put the extremists up to illegal acts when he did no such thing. Your response to the acts of Wednesday is emotionally-driven and I’ll-considered. Applying the logic you present here, any officials who endorsed this summer’s protests in Minneapolis and Seattle were inciting the riots which ensued yet, as so many were quick to point out at the time, the protesters were not the rioters, and those supporting the protesters were not supporting the rioters. If you still want Trump impeached, at least show your true stripes and admit it is out of personal animus, and not in pursuit of justice.
US code 2383 is pretty clear. Trump is not above the law. If that is too emotional for you, just sorry. It isn't your call to apply the law and it isn't my call to apply the law. That falls to Congress. You are allowed to have your partisan opinions of course. I am allowed to be fed up with this corrupt dictator wannabe. You somehow believe, probably for partisan reasons, that a person has to say "Go attack congress" in order to be guilty of incitement. Even the law doesn't adhere to that strict of a definition. It never has. Incitement is any actions, words, or deeds that cause an event to occur. You simply play the word game to distract from your own culpability for supporting this fool.
But they have a whistler blower who in the capitol and saw Trump leading the charge. The whistleblower's picture was caught on camera......
Trump was too big of a coward to lead any charge. Remember his words at the rally. "I'm right there with you.", just before he ran and hid in the White House and gleefully watched the riot he had fomented.
Again, your belief that Trump incited this mob action is flawed. Section 2383 of the Code reads: "Whoever incites, sets on foot, assists, or engages in any rebellion or insurrection against the authority of the United States or the laws thereof, or gives aid or comfort thereto, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States." Trump did not state, or even imply that anyone should do more than make their displeasure known to Congress. For you and for all democrats to claim otherwise is either ignorant, or politically petty. Moreover, if you believe in stretching Trump's words to constitute incitement to riot, then the following words, spoken by Barack Obama in June of 2007 precluded his eligibility to become president: "Those 'quiet riots' that take place every day are born from the same place as the fires and the destruction and the police decked out in riot gear and the deaths (referencing the Rodney King riots of 1992)." Obama said. "They happen when a sense of disconnect settles in and hope dissipates. Despair takes hold and . . . people all across this country look at the way the world is and believe that things are never going to get any better . . . the frustration is there for all to see." Such words can be inflammatory to some, but they do not direct others to rise up and riot.
And how many Democrats lied to the American People, telling them that Donald Trump colluded with the Russians? If you want to play by those rules, let's round up and prosecute all of them as well.
What about the ones that refused to cooperate and then were pardoned? The Democrats didn't lie about anything. The Republicans let Trump off with a hand slap and look what happened.
Some because they had broken the law in ways that had nothing to do with the charges of collusion with Russia. Others because they were entrapped or because of trumped up charges (no pun intended) after not telling Moeller what he needed to hear to satisfy the demanding Democrats. I do believe Trump tried to get information from Wikileaks, but that was not colluding with the Russians.
Meetings with Russians in Trump tower, handing election data over to Russians, phone conversations with Russians, Russians in the Oval Office, 17 Intelligence Agencies confirming Russian interference in the election, countless defenses of Putin, secret meetings at foreign summits with Putin, the list goes on and on but you choose to believe that Trump didn't collude with Russians during the election. Okay, I am not the doctor of fixing stupid. Trump was not exonerated by the Mueller Report, far from it. You choose to believe your cult leader. Fine. I'm going to believe my eye and ears.
Amen to taking personal responsibility. To Republican elected leaders: There’s lots of talk today about moving forward and “healing.” Here are some ideas for how you can help. 1. Say out loud that America had a free and fair election in November. If you had a winning election, point that out. 2. Acknowledge that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris won the election and will be President and Vice President. Say that, for the good of the country, you wish them the best. 3. Show you understand that the legislative branch of our gov’t was violently attacked by right-wing domestic terrorists. This may not be your fault (unless you are Cruz, Hawley, or one of the others who helped incite this attack) but you can make a difference by condemning it. 4. Don’t just condemn violence in all its forms. Condemn this white supremacist violence. 5. Urge all patriotic Americans, including your supporters, to stay away from violent demonstrations in Washington D.C. and state capitols, so that we can honor the peaceful transfer of power that is the hallmark of our democracy. https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1348823626221559810.html
That sentiment should be practiced by all conservatives and democrats alike. It is high time that reason enters our democratic process. However I fear that like earlier in this thread that when conservatives are on the correct side of reason that they will be faced with insults and condescension as was displayed here.
Impeach this person for questioning the validity of our elections........ Nancy Pelosi @SpeakerPelosi Our election was hijacked. There is no question. Congress has a duty to #ProtectOurDemocracy & #FollowTheFacts. 11:44 AM · May 16, 2017·Buffer
I don't know how better to say this than....Some crow must be eaten here. Because the truth be told, we have been warning you against this man forever. We have also said that Donald Trump didn't create these white supremacists, militia members, and all the other fringe Right-wing groups but he certainly without a doubt has done everything he can to mobilize, incite, and divide further any and all cracks that were there when he became president. We have also said that this man only cares about himself. He doesn't care about this country one little bit and never has. You also can't deny that the entire Republican establishment has gone out of their way to either support his worst inclinations on a par with Neville Chamberlin appeasing Hitler or just sitting silently on their hands afraid of losing the lunatic supporters that should have been denounced and thrown out of the party long ago. In other words, you crawled willingly into bed with Satan twice at the voting booth and now you want forgiveness, healing, and of all things, reason even while Republicans continue to balk at the 25th Amendment, impeachment, or in most cases any kind of retribution for textbook examples of sedition, insurrection, violence, death, and incitement? At one time I would have agreed that the country needed healing and reconciliation but we are far beyond that and it might sound hyperbolic but the war is at hand, the wolf is at the door, and it is time to fight like hell for our country. Donald Trump hasn't learned, the Republicans haven't learned, the terrorist mobs are heading in our direction, and you want healing to commence? I think that you know where I stand on that.
My votes had little to do with the man and much to do with a pre-Covid thriving economy which in my view is not high on the democratic agenda. I never made concession for the man and certainly do not forgive the man for inciting this most recent level of violence. It is inexcusable..... Even though you try to paint me as a money hungry conservative, that is just a completely false accusation. If I were the money loving conservative that you paint me as, I would be living on a shining hill while my staff struggled to make ends meet. Simply stated, conservative principals favor economic strength. And in my personal view, that is good for all. Yes, I did cast my vote twice for a conservative platform that I do not or will not feel obligated to apologize for..... And if this healing ever is to commence, shouldn't it begin somewhere? We look to our elected leaders to set the tone when in fact they should be looking to us to set the tone. So I say then that it begins with me. I will support our duly elected president and I will do all that I can possibly do to quell any riotous intent afoot. I am but one voice but would encourage all to follow as we bandage this nation.
