I'm not being dismissive here.... But I think this sort of thought process has been ingrained into society in recent years. If large corporations are making money, they are creating jobs and people are earning a living. I think the last ten months of give-a-ways (that started with Trump) have proven that the government is incapable of spending money as efficiently as the private sector. If I have more available income to create jobs with, isn't that a better solution than the government doling out cash and getting nothing in return for it?
But when you usher in the corruption that all that money inevitably invites, you really lose everything you were fighting for in the first place. You see the situation from a different perspective than I do. I think corporations should be grateful for the workforce that this country provides through our collective efforts to educate, train, and keep healthy the people of this country so that they can be effective employees. You think that we should be grateful just to have any job. What if everyone you tried to hire was a moron, no skills, and were routinely sick? How well would your business do? Someone has to prepare people for the workforce. We all do that as a society without any kind of guarantee that any of these workers will benefit us directly. Business on the other hand only looks out for itself.
You are correct. I have never viewed from this perspective and there is some reason in what you say. In all reality though, isn't education really a place for young minds to learn how to manage their lives in the world? Whether that be through economics (jobs), service or educating others, no we never can know the outcome. But it is all of our responsibility to do our best to prepare young minds to be productive in whatever path they choose for their lives. Rarely will any of them benefit us directly. Now this I will disagree with. My very first obligation is to those that work hard for me. When Covid started and nobody knew what the future presented, I told my guys that whatever happens, this company can guarantee three months of income to everyone. I would bet you that more people in the workforce heard similar sentiments from their employers. I really believe that many liberals draw their conclusions from the sensationalized side of the corporate world. I assure you that the vast majority of us are entirely opposite of that. I have privately funded rehabilitation programs for troubled employees and funded one new employee that was about to lose their home..... Don't believe all that you hear. Most of us businessmen & women are every bit as dedicated to the welfare of others as you are.
Difficult? Ending handouts is an anathema to progressive liberalism. It would be the end of the world . . . or so they'd have you believe.
Can you not see the ironic parallel between the boogieman that liberals denigrate and the equivalent that conservatives lament? Big business is constantly barraged by liberals for taking unfair advantage of our systems, despite the fact that it is only the bad apples who deserve such condemnation. There are far more who do not deserve such treatment than those who do. Similarly, conservatives express disdain for freeloading parasites that take unfair advantage of our social programs. While those offenders are far fewer than the deserving who do not cheat our systems, they likewise stain the deserving qualified beneficiaries with their acts. This is not a one-sided argument, and probably never will be. Can we all act like adults, and acknowledge that fixing is needed on both sides?
I truly wonder if we are able to arrive at this ever again. We have media, news sources and political leaders pitting us one against the other to such a degree, that I don't know that we will ever be able to rationalize and compromise with one another again.
The only way we can get there is if we, The People, put them in their place. We do that by making them feel like they are no longer important to us. That is the only power they possess . . . our investment of confidence in what they have to say.
I know you like these meme's. But consider something. I would bet you that you would be stunned at what I personally earn. I would further bet you that it is probably in line with most any middle class wage earner.... Yet, each quarter I send a check to the fed that equates to most peoples annual salary.. That is each quarter....... Now think about it. Do you really and truly believe that the fed is spending all that cash more efficiently than I can? And I am not talking about spending it on houses and boats. I don't do that. I create very good jobs with very good wages for people. Give me those minimum wage field hands in your meme and I will make them middle class workers with health care. Seriously, do you believe the fed does a better job with all that cash than I can?
I have never believed that ALL corporations are evil overlords anymore than I believe that ALL poor people are just lazy leeches living off of Uncle Sucker. Are there some of both kinds of people in society? Of course there are and there always will be. Those two groups greatest impact on society is that they serve as the whipping boys for people of both sides that are willing to try and convince the rest of us that all the people that fit those characteristic on either side are really the dominant players in the large game we all play. They aren't. There are clearly corporations that are civic minded and do their best to function responsibly as well as turn a profit. I have no problem with them at all. There are also corporations that we tax payers are forced to clean up after that cause us all to have to spend billions on through government funded clean up programs. For example, there are over 3 million uncapped oil wells in this country leaking methane directly into the atmosphere. Methane is a super green house gas emitter. Ten times more destructive to the environment than burned fossil fuel. Yet who is going to cap all these wells as well as all the open mines that emit between 1.9 and 5.1 gigatons of CO2 equivalent (CO2e) of GHG emissions annually. Who is going to seal these mines now that they are no longer being worked? As far as those people refusing to be productive members of society, how much damage are they really doing? My guess would be damn little in comparison to just one industry. So who should I be more concerned about? The poor or the mega wealthy?
I can appreciate what you are saying, Joe..... But my question still stands. Who is more efficient with cash. The fed or somebody like myself that can put it to work?
Well, good question. How many businesses have folded in the same time that the Federal Government has continued to exist? The Federal Government employees far, far more people than just about any business entity. It gives workers good benefits, a decent retirement, job security, and countless other perks that businesses ceased to offer a long time ago. I was a government worker for 15 years before I retired. I also spent another 35 years or so working in the private sector. I've seen both sides of the equation. I'm going to go with the Feds on this question.
You, in my opinion, for a business of your size. Hey, I have no idea how this works, but is there like tax brackets for business profits similar to income tax? Like if you profit $1,000,000/year you owe some percent in taxes, but if you profit a billion you owe a higher percent? Ultimately that's what I want to see applied more aggressively. Small businesses should pay very little to maximize growth while very large and established companies pay a larger share.
Yes... I am taxed at the same rate a mega-giant is taxed at. I suppose that mega-corporations can afford tax attorneys to minimize their tax burden. But I pay 38 cents of every dollar this place earns to the fed.
As long as we view the job makers as evil incarnate, we will continue end back at a zero sum game. Nobody wins but the fed. If we were all supposed to be equal, we would all be 6’4” quarterbacks. We aren’t so we play the hand as best we can…… But I can assure you that as long as you continue to buy into this “business is bad” scenario that has been spoon fed to you…. You will assure that the only winners will be the fed. How soon we forget, they are supposed to be working for us.
