The article makes the assumption that it wouldn't work - despite lab evidence which would suggest otherwise. Masks efficacy was also judged using lab evidence, which didn't take into account people who touch their masks or wear them incorrectly. Oh, and hydroxycloroquine is effective. Ivermectin, apparently has some impact but not like hydroxycloroquine. But the media wants to act like Republicans are taking fish tank cleaner, bleach, and horse dewormer en masse. It's just not true.
I plainly don't see how this is a leap of faith. iodine doesn't stop killing viruses because there is human tissue nearby. There is nothing about the glass test tube that creates a reaction that wouldn't occur in any other scenario
