Reading the article you linked to, I would hardly call this a “disaster”. From what I gather, this is a temporary pause until a new director is confirmed. What I would consider a “disaster” is everything Fauci and I reckon that may be in the equation as to these temporary freezes. That, and the DEI element that is referenced in the article. The taxpayers spoke in November and we are seeing results quickly. Good stuff, in my opinion. Without those, they can't approve new grants. They fund 50b a year in research, and it's currently mid-late review season. This throws thousands of people and projects into limbo for, as far as I can tell, no reason.
Let’s not clutch at pearls like the cure for cancer is being held up. I am 100% for research that is for the betterment of humanity. I would argue that there are a lot of grants that do nothing of the sort and, in some cases, are in complete contradiction to it.
My guess is virtually every large grant is going to be scrutinized for fiscal responsibility before approval. The past approval process is no longer the norm. The Dept Of Gov Efficiency was created for this and a multitude of other reasons. No more $600 hammers or $1,500 toilet seats. Nobody is saying all of these agencies are going to be squashed. But they will be under a new level of scrutiny. And rightfully so.

What pork might they have found? Were the grants cancelled or were they temporarily suspended? How long were the grants already running ? In that time was there any progress made on the research? A blanket, no explanation public notice doesn't provide any support either way. Without the answers to the above questions, and probably more, I can't say one way or the other if the action was justified. And for you, GW, to call it moronic, without these answers only proves your across the board, I don't care what he does, I hate Orange Man, makes me continue to view your stance on everything Trump as evil with no rationale behind it, as ignorant. Wake up, our country is already safer, only one week into POTUS Trumps term. But I'm sure that's a bad thing too.
This is just the beginning of hamstringing scientific progress in the U.S. I expect much more in the coming weeks. So yeah, I'm sounding the alarm. You want to stay a superpower? You have to fund science and technology. You can't go back on those promises by cutting funding mid-award.
Outside of research, it's too bad we won't be able to adequately track and combat this thanks to Trump pausing these orgs. If you were worried about egg prices before, you haven't seen a thing yet.
Not the 1st time an outbreak of H5N9 virus has hit the US. I think you would have to search back to sometime in the 1960's for the initial outbreak. Just saying there should already be over 60 years foundation of existing research on the virus.

I have always been a results oriented person and I took note today that gasoline in my little neighborhood has dropped over twenty cents a gallon since the 20th….. Yeah, I know there are a myriad of variables that go into the price at the pump….. But I am quite sure that there is some speculative optimism at play. Trump equals results. Man I am so relieved that a sense of normalcy is back and I don’t have to worry about building a fortress around my house to keep the crazies away from my kids.
Thankfully I am in a deeply conservative area. Our kids never stopped saying the Pledge and praying at school. The school sends me an invite every year to participate in the schools Veterans Day ceremonies. You have no idea how thankful I am for making this place my home.
