They need them to keep out all those domesticated Mexican terrorists stealing David's minimum wage job in the meat packing plant.

This is not what the military should be used for. Nor is it something that they should be trained in. The primary purpose of the military is to break stuff and kill people. Blunt but true. It should not have a domestic role like this.

We already have multitudes of homeland defense forces (specially trained police, etc) in most every metro, county and larger city around. And they are often trained by the military. Not to mention the National Guard (when under state control). That is where we should put our training nad money for a mission like this. Not the military.

Having spent a bit of time in the Soviet Union, and seeing soldiers all over the place, it gives you an uncomfortable feeling with them present in public.

I knew about this in early October. It was in the Army times online. Complete B.S.

Everything is always in the name of our security, while things that would actually make us more secure are overlooked, ignored or forbidden. This only serves to help them institute martial law on a whim.

I'm very disgusted by this move. One step closer to a dictatorship. One congressman from CA came out and said, he and several others were threatened with martial law in the U.S. if they didn't pass the bailout bill the second time around. Because the markets would plunge 1k to 2k points a day and they expected the place to fall into chaos. Apparently bringing back 20k troops to be stationed here for domestic duty put teeth into that threat. The bailout bill was passed. Wonder what else can get rammed through with this threat?

Wonder what curfews will do for the economy? Maybe Obama will be the one who finally burns and destroys the Constitution once and for all. This is all they desire.

I think that if you read the report you will see that President Bush and some members of Congress have been pushing this idea for a number of years so I dont believe it can be laid at the feet of Obama!
I do think it is disgusting that members were threatend in any way or form to try and get them to support a bill, that strikes at the heart of a democratic society, over here we have a similar row about a Member of Parliment having his office searched and him been arrested by anti terrorist police.

For those who might not be aware, even though they look exactly the same, National Guard troops ARE NOT covered by the Posse Comitatus Act unless those NG troops have been federalized. In other words, the governor could call troops out to police your town any time he/she wants, and it would require a presidential order to get them back in their barracks.

Little Rock Arkansas in 1957, after the Brown Vs. Board of Education ruling is a prime example of Arkansas Gov Faubus calling out the National Guard to prevent the black students from entering Central High School. But that wasn't the end of it because...

...Eisenhower responded by federalizing them, putting them under the 101st Airborne and in the hands of the federal government. Faubus had to back down, he had no choice.

This should make David feel very safe. Get use to hearing, ''Your papers, please.''.
