I guess you and Stu dont think they deserve rights. That the U.S. government could never be wrong. Heres hoping they never bang on your door and lock you up without an explanation. Not trying to argue with you guys. Its just that I am a firm believer in the constitution. And I have a problem with those claiming to defend it, not adhering to it.

What rights were given to those captured from our side ? How many were cruelly executed on video without mercy ?

They have the right to a fair trial , thats as far as any rights go i would hope.

You sure like to make a extrapolations from what I actually say. What do they call that when you put words in someone's mouth and then argue against them? hmmm. I know there is a term for it. Maybe you an help me out with that. ;)

What I wrote was that the rights they obtain when they get to the US was the legal concern and that everyone had better be ok with releasing them or giving them to other countries and letting them go off to do whatever they want to do.

Here, I will even quote it to refresh your memory.

Nowhere did I say I was in favor of holding people in Gitmo. I don't like the idea of Gitmo and wish we had never started down that path. But, since we did, we have to deal with the reality in the here and now.

Now, you are correct in one small aspect of your made up words about what I believe. There is one right I do not want them to have.

The only right I don't want any of them to have is to be set free in the US. If they bring them here, and they can't or won't be tried and no other country will take them, what do you do with them? They can't just be held in the US and not do something with them. And I think part of that something, legally, is going to be to release them in the US.

The reality is we are closing Gitmo. So, I would rather just see them start releasing them all now instead of this political BS that we can just hold them in prisons in the US or do anything else with them once we get them here. Or with the equal BS that we can just figure out what to do with them after they get here. That is not reality and shows either a lack of courage to tell people what is really going to happen, a serious naivety or just flat out deception. Now that Gitmo is finally closing, I would rather see them all released and not one of the 250 of them brought to the US.

And, if no country will take them? I guess just drop them off wherever we picked them up. Too bad if that country does not want them. We got them there, we are taking them back. But, we need to do that before they get to the US and without the lie that we can just bring them all to the US and it will be rainbows and unicorns for everyone. Because, after they get here, many options of what to do with them instantly go away.

I have an idea, we will send them all to New Zealand, and if the murderous Maoris don't get them, that foul mouthed little homoerotic twitcase Aidan Work will.

Crikes, and these Al Qaeda thought that Gitmo was torture.

Stu Joe, I apologize for using the word deserve. You wrote obtain. I misunderstood the two words to be related. In your response to me you wrote that you do not want any of them to have the right to live in the US. With that statement, now I dont want to put words in your mouth, but does that mean you find them guilty before a fair trial?

Give them a speedy fair and impartial trial then shoot them

That's okay. I know, like Aiden, you like to have a bit of self righteous preacher in you from time to time. Kidding. Of course. Of course. Surely.

I think their guilt or innocence is not something I can judge, obviously, nor is it something that I think will ever be judged in a trial in many of their cases, either in Gitmo or in the US.

But, either way, guilty or innocent or undetermined, I don't want them to have the right to be released in the US. Nor do I want them detained in some US prison without a trial. And, yes, I claim those words against that particular 'right' because I actually wrote them and didn't have someone else make them up.

So, do you want any or all of them who will never stand trial to be released in the US? Or do you have a different plan?

See how I asked the question to find the answer and didn't just put the words in your mouth as I believe you would say them?

Yes, I saw. ''Youre a better man than me, Gunga Din!''. If you want to know what I personally would do with them, I would like to see a headline stating that a gas leak at the Guantanamo detention center caused a massive explosion, killing all detainees. Then we can move on. But a heartless SOB like me isnt running the show.

And continuing the Honeymoon Is Over part of the thread...

    http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/article5575883.ece

Security officials said the strikes, which saw up to five missiles slam into houses in separate villages, killed seven "foreigners" - a term that usually means al-Qaeda - but locals also said that three children lost their lives.

    Ain't being the President fun?

Hold on Stu. He has said he's closing it. That doesn't mean it's going to happen. Didn't you watch the campaign? He could just be stalling.

Even if they brought an innocent man to Guantanamo, what's their frame of mind now? After being imprisoned by the U.S. and who knows what's happened to them? What associations could one have made there? Seems to me like they would have a lot of time on their hands to plot and scheme against the U.S., should they ever get out. I don't think they're going to thank Obama and rejoice in their freedom. It's highly unlikely that any of them are going to go to college, get married, seek work and integrate into society as upstanding Americans. Anybody disagree?

What is the risk/reward value with these people now? A 10% chance that they won't get involved in criminal activity so since that chance is there we better give it to them?

If they do release them, one could only hope that they have divided them up into groups as far as most dangerous to least and treat them accordingly. But I wouldn't make any bets.

There you go again, first you accused me of supporting Ron Paul. Just to set you straight, I have never made his name or the "is he or isn't he a Muslim" thing an issue. In fact I believe him 100% when he says he's a Christian. Afterall, he has 20 years of following the teachings of Jeremiah Wright to support his claim, right?

Is Jeremiah Wright a Christian? All I got out of hearing him was that he was a rascist fool.

Right. No one here is a racist. Or kind of racist. Or has ever said a slang regarding a race. I dont know about the guy Wright. Maybe he is a racist. Maybe some white guy cut him off that day. Maybe he feels cheated being black. Who cares. Hes not the only racist in town. And david if accusing you of being a Ron Paul supporter is a slur on you; I apologize.

Everybody here has made some stupid comment about some other race at some time or another. But when you are a prominent and well known preacher in some church, I am sorry that is not excusable.

Well known? Ive never heard of him before. Have you? I mean he's no Billy Ghram. Prominent? BS. He has no more prominence than my priest. I'm not making an excuse for him. I just dont give a rat's fanny about him. So how is he well known and prominent?

For some, racism is a business and an income. Look at Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, the " Justice Brothers".

Lets look back at what Dr. King said, I'll paraphrase, " judge by charachter, not by color"

We'll judge Jesse by his actions. Love children by non spouses, tax evasion, and in general a shakedown artist. Sharpton? Do you remember Juanita Broderick? The rape that never happened? More recently, the Duke Lacross fiasco.

I think in general , America is over it. No one here, nor our parents or grandparents were slaves or slave owners, yet we still get pushed for reperations.

Hey, let some white gal run for " Ms Black America", lets start a " Caucasion College Fund " or start a " White Entertainment Channel".....the " White Congressional Caucas " ( sic)

get it? do you see my point?
