This is not the bill. This is a story by someone. I asked if you had the bill to read or to show a link so that the bill could be read. Does it actually read 'Hidden Provisions' in the bill? If not, then how were they spotted? If so, then they arent very hidden.

Really? Even those who were fired through thier own fault? Or those that quit? Wow. Then you wouldnt mind if I quit my job so I could get on that gravy train. Since they are gonna spend it anyway, I think I deserve double what I'm making now. Hopefully this administration will be good for eight years, so double with an annual 5% increase I'll be doing ok. In fact lets all quit, since Vess seems to think this country isnt worth working for anyway. Lets have the government take care of us. With Daschle and Obama wearing polyester jumpsuits with some evil logo patch on the shoulder. All the while letting the elderly die in streets, laughing as they just keep printing out more money, mimeograph crank in one hand and The Communist Manifesto in the other. Eyes glazed over with insanity. And here comes Newt Gingrich in his souped up sports car ready to destroy those evil-doers.

Just one point on the Health issue, it say's they are basing it on a UK model? Well folks that model is undergoing drastic change LOL as it dont work to well
It had prohibited the use of new drugs that actualy work for certain types of cancer (not cost effective) and it refused to allow people who were buying there own medication to get other drugs that were available free on the NHS free even though they had paid there health insurance. This is now set to change, also they have managed to set in place a deal with a few of the larger drug manufacturers to lower the cost to the Health service of a range of new drugs.

If we are already giving trillions away (and we are), why does it matter? This is supposed to be about stimulating the economy but all I am seeing is stimulating banks, car makers and the government.

If you are unemployed now, I will put you to work at a reasonable wage. If you want to pick up trash or whatever for some amount, 30,000, 40,000 seems reasonable at government expense, you get the job. At least you will be doing something and spending money in the economy. And companies will have to hire people to fill whatever jobs they need and they will have to pay a decent wage and benefits to lure people away from picking up trash. Truthfully, it wouldn't take a lot of wage to get me to not pick up trash for a living but everyone is different.

Unemployment is 11 million, we could support up to 20 million like that for years on the money we have been spending, have already obligated or are going to spend on banks, businesses and the government.

This money is already gone and is going to be spent no matter what. Sure, I wish we weren't just throwing it out there but that is not the reality. And if we are just going to throw it out there and hope, lets put it into actual consumers hands instead of into a bunch of pet projects for legislators and their lobbyists. Unless you really want that frisbee park, that is.

40,00? Why would I quit my job for a lower paying one? I bet those that became unemployed in the last year or so werent just blue collar workers. Merrill Lynch guys were making way more than 40,000. And i thought that this admin. was going to create jobs with this bill. I havent read the whole thing(I doubt anyone here has) so I couldnt give you details. But I just saw Fox news and it reported that at least 500 to 600 hundred was going to banks(again) to ease lending and mortages. And a park or a parking lot being built will create jobs. I mean someone has to build it, right? Doesnt that stimulate the economy? And I cant believe any one here is in favor of giving some mook 40,000 dollars who just quit his job because he was fed up or was fired for drug abuse. All I see is the bulk of the money going to banks and other financial institutions. But no one is focusing on that. No, theyre upset that a billion dollars is going to be spent trying to find dead beat dads. And man do I want that frisbee park. A fifty dollar grounds fee would be fair. Dont ya think?

Stimulus bill has passed Senate. Be sure to call your congressmen and thank them.

I like the Frisbee park idea. I think that's a better use of tax dollars than most of the other stuff the government has spent money on, and I don't mean just in the current bill everyone's talking about.

What do you think the page numbers are in the column?? Made up, ficticious numbers they threw out? Rush has ranted about it for two days and I've heard them talking about it on other radio programs and the media is just now starting to talk about it. Now that the bill has passed.

I'm going to say this one is legit. Find the bill yourself.

So? They can take the 40k and go pick up trash or take 0 dollars and sit at home until their money runs out. ;)

No guarantee on anything creating jobs. Maybe the frisbee park makers just have their current workers work some overtime. Maybe 1-4 million people get employed in the short term (in 2010) according to the CBO.

    http://www.usnews.com/articles/news...t-obamas-job-creation-goal-in-short-term.html

I am talking about 11 million new people spending money by next month.

That is really my point. For some reason people would rather see the money go to financial institutions so they can give out their normal bonuses or to the auto makers so they can buy their jets or whatever.

I would rather see it go to actual unemployed people. That is a direct pipeline to that money stimulating the economy.

Keep in mind I am saying this because this money and more is already spent. There is no plan to not spend it. The issue for me is which plan is actually stimulating the economy and which plan is just using fear to just funnel this money to a select few.

Of course, none of the fees will come from the 11 million unemployed people. ;)

Oh and to implement my plan for 1 year would only cost about half the stimulus package amount. Or, if we use the rest of the TARP funds for it, it would take away about 1/8th of the stimulus package funds.

You can use the rest for all the frisbee parks you want. There will be 11 million new people looking to play. ;)

The page numbers placed in the thread had only to do with health care. Why do you constantly post whats already been reported? I mean what someone else writes; thier opinions? Legit? What is this the 1940's?

Tell me striahgt up. You dont have a problem giving some guy who lost his job through drug abuse or just because he quit, 40,00 dollars until he feels like working again? I am asking because you said all unemployed.

  13. Stu Joe

    Stu Joe New Member

Nope. What do I care why the people are getting it to pick up trash or what they did before? All they are to me is a direct pipeline to spending money in the economy. 11 million pipes. And this isn't forever. This is an economic stimulus.

That's what an 'Economic Stimulus' is supposed to be, right? Getting money into the economy? Or is it really just a bigger government budget? The Global Assault On Recession fear tactic?

Which is better...letting 11 million people decide what to spend that money on or a few hundred members of Congress and a President? Which will create longer lasting jobs? Jobs that produce and supply what people actually want to buy every day? Which will make the right businesses survive instead of ones that will continue to need government help?

Besides, that is a red hearing anyway. How many people are like that? I bet not even enough of the 11 million unemployed to even get a pair of socks in a jumble, let alone a pair of panties.

Thanks for your answer. Panties and all. We do have welfare for those who are out of work. I have less of a problem with someone going on welfare (which is , lets face it, less than what they would earn at a decent job) than someone getting a free ride at a salary comprable to a teachers.

This isn't about supporting people or a welfare program. It is about how to get money into the economy to stimulate it. Economic Stimulus is the line of BS we keep hearing.

Hell, I will have a lottery and just give 11 million random individuals $40K each if people have such a hard time with giving money to out of work folks.

But, the reason for picking the unemployed is that they are less likely to stash it in the bank which is what I would do with it. They are much more likely to use it to pay their car note, or their mortgage or rent and food and clothes and whatever else. Plus, you can get something out of them for it like picking up trash, etc.

Me? You give me 'stimulus money', be it $300 or $500 or $1000 or $40,000, and I will guarantee you that it is not going to go into the economy. I don't need the money right now so I will stash it away as a 'just in case' fund until the economy recovers. Kind of the opposite of a stimulus. And I ain't picking up trash 8 hours a day either. ;)

But, as I am sure you can tell, I think this whole load of crap everyone is being fed has nothing to do with stimulating the economy. It is just an added government budget bill. I think of it as the FY2009-B Budget Resolution. It is related to stimulating the economy in the same way the Patriot Act was related to protecting us from terrorists. In other words, not really at all.

(Edited to correct spelling and make it a little clearer)

Was going to answer this the other day but got sidetracked. I'll give it a shot now.

For starters I never said anything about GIVING money to the unemployed did I? Nor did I allude to ALL of the unemployed or "just the ones I selected". Where in the hell did you see that Craig a? Was it maybe because I said this?

If that's where you came up with it fine, I'll play along and tell you why I didn't mean that.

    1) Giving away money. Not in my plans. One would WORK for the money. Pushing a broom is work after all and if I were to get paid for it I would do it.
Toss the pride aside dude. There are still a lot of good people out there that would happily (or not so) push a broom in order to pay their own way as it were and perhaps have a bit left over to spend on other items that would help stimulate our economy.

    2) Just the ones I selected. I'm not selecting anyone unless you're talking about people that still want to make a living without the benefits of welfare.
You know people that have worked for a living then suddenly find it's not going so well have a much different outlook on the 3rd generation welfare case that was RAISED that way.

    3) As for the welfare "generation" if they're able and fit MAKE them work. Be it pushing a broom or cleaning toilets at a state run rest area. Want your check - get your lazy ass to work. This would apply to those that are physically able of course and there are PLENTY that are.

    4) "Losers" that lost their job of their own volition. Yes, it happens I've seen it happen, and I've fired same losers in the past. Does this mean they should never get a shot at a job again?
I can tell you, from personal experience, that many of those "losers" have gone on to find other jobs and actually thanked me for teaching them a lesson. It's called life.
Not everyone is an energetic Rhodes Scholar and believe it or not people do often learn from their mistakes.
Many of the best employees I EVER had in various management jobs were those with GEDs. Why? - because they realized they made a mistake in the past and did their best to rectify it. VERY few gave them a chance but the VAST majority I ever hired were great workers and extremely loyal BECAUSE I geve them a chance.

    Let's delve further shall we?

You'd be an idiot if you did now wouldn't you? However, if you were making, let's say 60k per year, and suddenly dropped to ZERO and were not a lazy ass that 40K looks pretty good.
I couldn't see people quitting their jobs for the "handout" of 40K to push a broom. Could you? In some warped way?

    BINGO!

We, the taxpayers, are bailing them out. Doesn't matter what your views are WE are paying for it. Paying for the bonuses, the jets and the list goes on.
Propose that certain people have a salary cap and they whine about it? 500,000 isn't enough? Try ZERO.

These people owe ME. These people owe US.

Ok, I used the word give loosely. But I meant ''hand'' them a paycheck(Unemployement check). 60,000 dollars is alot of money I guess, but wall streeters make more than that. Most probably would accept the broom pushing postition. But some would think it was beneath them. And no. I dont think a loser who got caught drinking on the job and got fired, deserves to get a government job pushing a broom. Maybe pushing a broom is hard work; I dont know. I think its pretty easy. And to ''pay'' someone forty thousand dollars per year to do that doesnt sit well with me. And I dont think someone who got laid off at Mcdonalds should get the same handout job as that of a laid off electrician. If the Gov. is making up some petty job to pay you so you can spend it to shore up the economy, then whats the difference if some exec get a bonus from the bailout. He is going to spend SOME money on things. And probably higher end things. And not offical NFL football shaped dinner ware, and an upgrade from Miesterbrau. I didnt want the 1st bailout. I didnt want the second. And from polls and such, it appears most citizens didnt want them either. Yet there they are. Try ZERO? Our senators and congressmen gave them the bailout. Maybe they should get ZERO. Seems they arent working ''For the people''.

Well, fortunately for all of us, the government knows exactly how to spend all this money on just the right programs and will have this economy all fixed up and stimulated in no time. And all at only $200k per job created...or 'saved'. Gotta put that 'saved' in there in case it doesn't really create any jobs at all.

  19. skm06

    skm06 Puttin on the foil

Actually I thought I read it was more like 300K per job, but who's counting?

Can I just call you Captain Stereotype Craig? You know the "losers" that would buy things like not official NFL football shaped dinner ware.
Sure some people spend their money very stupidly. I see it all day. People that whine about how broke they are then go out to eat EVERY night because it's it too inconvenient to cook. Yep, I've seen them for years.
Some hard working people too and their purchases stimulate the economy just like any other purchase be it dumb or not.
Do I applaud them for their spending habits? Nope, just shake my head man but when one gets down to it - if we lose "idiots" like this society as a whole suffers.
Who's gonna fix your burgers? Who's gonna rotate the tires on your car? Who's gonna finish your transaction at the gas station?
Will it be the electrician? Or maybe the painter - hey I just remembered I'm a painter so I should get in first! I have a legitimate trade backround!

Sure pushing a broom is easy. Do it for eight hours straight this weekend (you can have a lunch and a few cig breaks if you want) then report back to me. Betting you're one of those "painting is easy too" guys. I'll make it easy roll ceilings for 4 hours straight and tell me how you feel when you're done.

Now the 40K figure was put out by SJ so I just use it as a base. Cut it down to 20K. You work for 20K then get assistance? That would certainly stimulate the economy. As for those that think it's beneath them? STARVE! At least the "dregs of society" would make an effort.
It's funny when "sacrifices must be made" it's NEVER the top echelon that caused the whole mess in the first place don't you think?

Instead we bail out the "rich" so they can continue their ways with no real repercussions. Are they restructuring? Are they calling workers back?
Nope, they are throwing parties and giving out bonuses that will undoubtedly stimulate the economy. WTF!

Anyone that is capable needs to tighten their belts to get out of this mess. The lower echelons have tightened for too long. The fat cats are getting fatter with no clue as to how they are destructing themselves and this nation.

Does it sound socialist? Of course it does but take a long look at it. Who got us here? Pretty sure it wasn't a bunch of burger flippers.
