I am not making this up. Reaganism by definition is the dismantling of the federal government and its programs (except for military programs) Even the conservatives will agree with that. "Government does not solve problems; it subsidizes them." Ronald Reagan http://crooksandliars.com/john-amato/obama
BINGO DING DING DING DING We have a winner !!!! The conservative ideal is less government and a strong military !!! I'll not pay attention to the propaganda thread links but you do have a firm grasp on the conservative idea. Now, back to healthcare. If this plan is so good, lets write or call our congress persons and our senators. Ask them if they will be joining in the same healthcare that we will get. If you plan on forcing us into a healthcare plan, will you be in it to? I can bet not ONE will answer yes, and most wont answer but dodge the question. Both parties. Ah ah, found something here as well. Unions will be exempted from the taxable medical benifets provided by employers to pay for this plan ( being considered by the current administration ), why is that?
This thing has a ways to go so I can't really be pinned down to any detail. That said this current system is costing us way too much. It literally makes people with a cold go to the ER and that is why healthcare is more than 15% of GDP.
We are getting somewhere Dan, this is awesome. Lets try an experiment. Call it car insurance rather than health insurance. Do we insure our cars for flat tires? Broken belts? Do we insure our cooling system or battreys? Of course not. When is the last time your Allstate paid for an oil change? Why in the world would we expect health insurance to pay for typical doctor visits, a common cold? This type of insurance abuse is all too common. As with our auto insurance, it should be for catostrophic failure , or accidental injury, not " scheduled maintainance " insurance. This type of abuse of the system should be stopped. When you pay for an oil change, you will shop around. Do you really shop around for the best prices when you have a cold? Hell no, our insurance pays. " Free " to us. Not so free, someone always pays.
I love it. Honest debate without political rhetoric or talking points. We are both on different sides, and we are both sort of shooting blind. An honest investigation into this is needed, and if we can set the aisle aside, we may get to some answers, some numbers, some costs, and some details. Every single " figure " that is promised by politicians of both partys are designed to fool us. When is the last time a projected cost has come under budget, a timeline come early? Thats right, never. If this plan is so good, why are we exempting senators, represenatives and uinions? Could it possibly be that the plan is not really all that good?
Let me add this. What person voting on the bill will actually read it? We found out ( after the stimulus vote ) that less than 20 % of those voting read the bill !! Among the 20% who claimed they did, most had staffers read it and prepare a " Cliff Notes" for them. I am for all of us being honestly represented, not just my party. I think before we change 1/5 of the American economy, invade private industry and seize control of every Americans health care ( with the track record of social security and other failures ) we should be educated and prepared. And not by a biased new host. We , all of us need to investigate this.
Can I chime in here folks? This is why we need to find a middle ground - it's there somewhere. Jack, believe it or not I've had to go to the Gary, IN health department to be tested for TB when I worked in a truck stop of all places. We didn't serve food there - it was a way to get $2 out of people that worked in the city. Sitting there in a filthy waiting room I saw a lot of people that were most likely taking full advantage of welfare rights. Call me what you will on this one folks but I was seeing the system being worked. On the other hand the people that really seem to suffer in our current system are those that work, are dependable but just aren't "successfull" enough to afford health insurance or get it through employers in any way that doesn't jeapordize them paying other bills. I'm not blaming employers here. It's a burden on them as well. Look at what health insurance costs. Now look at what it costs an individual. Do I pay for my REQUIRED car insurance to drive or do I have a bit of health insurance? Hmmm... I need to get to work to pay the bills and put food on the table so guess where my money goes? I have stated that I have not had insurance in 5 years (more actually). I haven't gone to the doctor either. I would have liked to a few times. One day I coughed at work and really strained a back muscle. I ended up leaving early and taking two days off. Had it gone a third day I would have had to go to a doctor, pay with what I didn't have and I lost wages. I was hurting well after that but just plain couldn't afford to lose any more wages. Hell, I slept in a chair for a week because a bed was out of the question. Can anyone here see why a more "socialized" health care system appeals to many? I'm not calling for i t but if those who don't work and never have can go see a doctor because of a "cold" why can't the the lower/middle class go see a doctor because they are legitimately sick? I don't want anyone's "handouts" I just want to be a bit more able to attend to the body when required. I only go to the doctor when I need it and there are millions more like me out there. Sure, there are a lot of people that take advantage but should the millions that don't suffer because of this? For having morals and a work ethic? Our system needs a ton of work and I'd love to see some "real" answers not just right or left wing rhetoric. Fact is this. Healthy workers are more productive. Can anyone argue with that?
