A lot of what I have read about California's 'Medicinal Use' laws is that it is pretty much a joke. That place I just posted is going to have a doctor on site to prescribe it. That says a lot right there, I think. lol

I believe I read that 'chronic pain' and 'mood disorders' make up over half the prescriptions. Figuring the age of PRWE posters and then taking into account the ravings and ramblings of many of the posts I read....everyone here would probably be eligible under at least one of those 2. :D

But, "medicinal" or not, pot apparently creates jobs. Jobs, jobs, jobs. ;)

    some updates

Well this topic has been a hit. Some updates on Cali and the movement as a whole.

Calif suprem court overturns bans on ammount of pot a "medical" patient can posses and manufacture. So for all practicale purposes its leagel now because with an ID card you can have a warehouse full of pot and only the dea can stop you. With Obamas promis not to do this it is game on in cali

The bill made it out of commite: Yeap its going to the cali house floor eaither late this year or earliy next. Also a referendom will be on the ballot.

On me being a liberal: I'm card carying. I belive in Universial Human rights, and freedom. The only diferance than me and a typical libretarian is that I think the gov has some legit functions outside of just national defence. Highways are one it would sux to have only toll roads. I like the Fda and FDIC for differnt reasons. I do hate tax on small busniess though, but only because I own one.

Drug Laws are dumb. Doctors can turn people who have chronic pain into junkies by giving them a lifetime prescription of percesates and oxycotten, but hevean forbid they smoke a joint which is less harmfull and less addictive. Numer of people who have died form overdoseing on pot 0 people who have oded and died from opiates millions.

Their is even good reasearch that smoking pot can prevent lung cancer. A harverd studie on this was completed a few years ago. Something in marijunia is great for stoping cancer. Do we know what it is no because no one can do research ont this question. Go dumb laws

Gateway Drug: I'm 25 and people in my generation are doing their damndist to relive the 60's complete with The Greatfull dead music festivals and LSD. While I have experiminted with many drugs I am not a user anymore and never got addictied. I know lots of people that had to go to rehab because they got hooked on pills and cocain, but no one just for pot (well excluding the ones that got orderd to by the corts) People do drugs because they like them and they think its cool pot being leagle or illegal has little if anything to do with this.

Little Kids and drugs: I can tell you from personal expeirance that when I was in highschool it was much easier to buy pot then beer. The reason is that Beer is sold at the store and pot was sold by kids at my school. We had to drive to a select few gas stations and risk getting busted to buy beer. Pot ont he other hand was easy to get and was radily avalible at any party. The long and the short of it is that if you have to show an ID and be 21 to buy pot it will be much much harder for children to buy it.

Taxes: multi billion dollar swing if it is legal.

Morality. As has been said many times. You can not legislate morality. Their is an entrie filed of legal studies called critical legal studies that argues that the law is indeterminate and ultimatly fails at achiving social justice and stoping what ever it is trying to stop. Murder, rape, theft all are illigal and all happen every day in this country. (Those are just examples I am not saying they should not be illegal) The point is that just because something is aginst the law does not mean it will stop. Like has been said many times if you want to stop violence in america make drugs legal.

DUI/Violent Crimes: Only complete ass clowns commit duis. They are illegal dangerus and kill people. I live in alabama and every weekend there are dui check points and I think they help. NO reason this would not continue if pot was legal. Ohio has a law that if you are caught driving while high it is worse than drunk. They also have very lienant pot laws for simple possesion I think it is a model that could work for everyone

    Great theread!
