This has been posted on several blogs and it seems like a perfectly valid question to pose here in case we have any Tea Party activists that can shed some light on this quandary. You didn't get mad when the Supreme Court stopped a legal recount and appointed a President. You didn't get mad when Cheney allowed Energy company officials to dictate energy policy. You didn't get mad when a covert CIA operative got outed. You didn't get mad when the Patriot Act got passed. You didn't get mad when we illegally invaded a country that posed no threat to us. You didn't get mad when we spent over 600 billion(and counting) on said illegal war. You didn't get mad when over 10 billion dollars just disappeared in Iraq. You didn't get mad when you found out we were torturing people. You didn't get mad when the government was illegally wiretapping Americans. You didn't get mad when we didn't catch Bin Laden. You didn't get mad when you saw the horrible conditions at Walter Reed. You didn't get mad when we let a major US city, New Orleans, drown. You didn't get mad when we gave a 900 billion tax break to the rich. You didn't get mad when the deficit hit the trillion dollar mark. You finally got mad when the government decided that people in America deserved the right to see a doctor if they are sick. Yes, illegal wars, lies, corruption, torture, stealing your tax dollars to make the rich richer, are all okay with you, but helping other Americans...oh hell no.
Because most of it is just made up of extremist whack jobs. Another part is probably the economy. The US will put up with pretty much anything as long as the economy is good and things are easy to buy. Basically as long as no real sacrifice has to be made. We can have everything and not have to really pay for it or make any cuts anywhere else. Doesn't matter whether that is their personal budget or what their politicians are doing. But, when reality intervenes in that thought process, it is time to protest! We want our things back!
I guess no one here is part of or willing to admit they are part of the Tea Party crowd. There is hope for this place yet.
There are some general things that the Tea Party supposedly stands for that I agree with. I say 'supposedly' because I think a lot of it is populist lip service (with some things they think they may have once heard a libertarian say somewhere thrown in for good measure) and not what they really are after. But, really, any party that has Sarah Palin as a supporter is probably not going to include me. She is a fundamentalist religious right republican and I think that says a lot about the Tea Party itself. However, as long as they are peaceful protests, more power to them. That is part of what this country is about.
I guess I would have to ask, if the left was so morally & vocally opposed to the items on your list while Bush was president why are they so silent and forgiving now that BO has assumed the position?
You make it easy. He isn't invading countries, he isn't outing CIA agents, he isn't wire taping US citizens illegally, he isn't manipulating intelligence to fit policies, the list goes on. That's why. You and your "broken promises" rhetoric straight from Frank Luntz's playbook of talking points are still unable to defend repeated questions from Steve to show where these promises you beat us over the head with were made and yet you chug along still believing them like the zombie right wing tool you aspire to be. If someone backs you into a corner and you can't get out, you might want to re-think your position. A little self-reflection might actually teach you something none of us seem to be able to teach you.
Exactly what it is that you could possibly teach me or anyone else for that matter? Your uber-liberal lunacay is beyond fantasyland and supported only by the likes of people like tomc. We'll just chalk it up to the little vacuum you live in & your desperation to preserve the niche you have carved out. Who is Frank Luntz?
The author of your talking points. Even prior to the health care debate, he spelled out exactly how to frame the issue and which words to use. You use them regularly. Framing an issue is nothing new, developing a whole new vocabulary to manipulate dumb people should be considered criminal. Here are a few of his gems. Recognize any of your own talking points eh? Abandon and exile ALL references to the “healthcare system.” “If you’re one of the millions who can’t afford healthcare, it is a crisis.” Better yet, “If some bureaucrat puts himself between you and your doctor, denying you exactly what you need, that’s a crisis.” And the best: “If you have to wait weeks for tests and months for treatment, that’s a healthcare crisis.” Stop talking economic theory and start personalizing the impact of a government takeover of healthcare. They don’t want to hear that you’re opposed to government healthcare because it’s too expensive (any help from the government to lower costs will be embraced) or because it’s anti-competitive (they don’t know about or care about current limits to competition). But they are deathly afraid that a government takeover will lower their quality of care – so they are extremely receptive to the anti- Washington approach. The healthcare denial horror stories from Canada & Co. do resonate, but you have to humanize them. You’ll notice we recommend the phrase “government takeover” rather than “government run” or “government controlled” It’s because too many politician say “we don’t want a government run healthcare system like Canada or Great Britain” without explaining those consequences. There is a better approach. “In countries with government run healthcare, politicians make YOUR healthcare decisions. THEY decide if you’ll get the procedure you need, or if you are disqualified because the treatment is too expensive or because you are too old. We can’t have that in America
Where's this sense of outrage now? BO has kept the Patriot Act in force, you hypocrite. The budget deficit passed $1 trillion long ago under BO's regime, you hypocrit, Bin Laden still hasn't been caught, you hypocrite. The war(s) still being funded, you hypocrite. I left the New Orleans thing in there just to ask you exactly how it was that we let New Orleans drown? As a former resident of the Gulf Coast I can certainly enlighten you on the subject. Instead of still whining that our courts found Bush to be the legally elected President how about addressing all the exposed lies that have come out of BO's mouth? You think Bush didn't deserve to be elected? I'll submit that BO got elected by perpetrating a fraud on our country. He exploited our economic condition and presented himself as something much more than he really is- He preyed on peoples insecurities. His "campaign promises" were nothing more than bribes to steal the votes of a segment of society that ate up his promises of entitlements & free money.
Well genius, my argument has that we don't need reform on this scale...there are alternatives- alternatives, by the way, that you asked me to lay out but you failed to give your opinion on. Remember that? We don't need a reform that so many are opposed to, people on the left and the right. We don't need a program that needs bribes & double-dealing to gain lefty approval. We don't need a plan that forces one to become a part of it. I don't think I have ever mentioned Canada. I don't think I have avoided using "healthcare system". I do fear the quality of healthcare will suffer. I do believe costs for everyone will go through the roof. I do believe this issue is nothing more than a power grab for BO & his ilk. And I do believe government will be involved in the course of treatment a patient receives. If the government is so far removed from this new healthcare deal, as you would like us to believe, then what was the point in even passing the law? If the gov't won't be making decisions or setting the rules, what will gov't involvement be? Another word on Frank Luntz, I've never heard of the guy so be careful about accusing me of using his words or I'll remind everyone about you posting the wisdom of Nancy Pelosi verbatim as your own words, without the nerve or decency to cite her as the source until I outed you. You hypocrite.
Becareful, your BFF Midas just got banned for name calling. That is all your side usually has anyway, so I'll be watching for your ban soon.
Perhaps you should consider a reading comprehension course brush up and then go back and read some of his posts. Oh sorry, I forgot that you didn't want to learning anything new. He was repeatedly warned by Steve to stop name calling and he kept it up. When you back righties into the corner, and peel away all their silly talking points, they inevitably resort to name calling. Like when we ask you for proof of Obama's unemployment "promise" and you just ignore it and keep blathering the same nonsense. Its really the same behavior, a failure to learn.
So how do you think what you posted was any different from Midas? Same name calling, same childish arguing, same type of rhetoric, same regurgatating of partisan talking points...just from the opposite side of the fence. I hope you haven't fooled yourself into thinking that you are any more enlightened or any less extreme than Midas.
...and you could care less the difference as long as you thought you were getting something handed to you, something you didn't have to work for.
You can't possibly know this to be truth yet you post it as if it were. Now we've come full circle eh?
