My definition of nitpicking was of course a joke. You just seem to level this same comment at many of us and I just wondered why you leap to this dodge so often. If it truly is nit-picking as you say, don't just label it and move on, point out why it is trivial, irrelevant, or inconsequential or you risk the consequences that go along with just labeling and running during a conversation. Accusing someone of nit-picking while not pointing out exactly how they are nit-picking does not a valid argument make.


This repetitive use of the same term reminds me of the way a lot of Right wingers use the word "typical" as if lumping a person’s comments into a group politically Left of themselves automatically lends their own opinions undue credibility, which it obviously does not. All it tells me about the person is that they can only think within very narrow parameters and must pigeon-hole everyone into their limited intellectual capacity to understand the world around them. I do have fun throwing it back at them once in a while but I have to cringe every time I use the word in that context. I guess you have to write to your audience as they say.

 

I understand your point but I really didn't think that I needed to point out why Craig is a nitpicker. It seems very obvious to me on every occasion that I have called him that why I called him that. If you ever disagree with my assessment of him as a nitpicker, by all means, chime in. I referred to one of the examples in my previous post. He criticized me for using all CAPS in one of my posts. If that is not nitpicking, then nothing is! And to my knowledge, Craig is the only one I call a nitpicker.

BTW, your really are over analyzing the repetitive usage of terminology. Think what you want, but if I call TomCorona a clown over and over again, it doesn't mean I think with very narrow parameters. It means I really think TomCorona is a clown. When I call Craig a nitpicker over and over again, it simply means I think he is a nitpicker.

I'm not sure how you can really "over analyze" the terminology in this context. Terminology is all we really have. You can't hear anybody's voice, see their faces, or gain clues to who they are from their posture. We are really limited to how each of us use words. Patterns start to develop and become recognizable. It's like I said to you in an earlier post, you tend to run hot and cold. I would bet that outside this forum, you probably also run hot and cold. It is just your personality being expressed in your words. I find it sort of interesting to watch people evolve into more substantive beings as their posts pen their personalities out. But that's just me.

 

Is this what you meant by criticized your use of caps? Show me where I criticized? I just found it funny that you used the caps to stress(see its like yelling but more in a written sense)the word liar. I just thought it was funny, because it showed how in control of your emotions you are. I just dont see ''I love the capitalized liar''. as criticizing. Ok now fire away with the insults, you can do no less.

No it doesn't annoy me. Its just embarrassing to watch adults call each other school yard names. If someone was being a nitpicker, I'd just move on and ignore them.
