I call it. Wednesday, July 28, 2010, 10:30 PM EST. Barak Obama officially takes firm control of the last of George W. Bush's titles.... Miserable Failure. Let's face it, Obama is becoming as much a disappointment to the left as he is to the right. Black radicals are as disappointed with him as the KKK and the teabaggers. It's over now, this goose is roasted.
I gotta add: BIDEN IS AN IDIOT!! Just got finished watching an interview he gave to NBC.....just saying.....
Perhaps it's because the guy who said he understood the problems & had the solutions began his presidency by announcing he had underestimated the problems and has proceeded the past 18 months to blame George Bush for everything rather than to actually fix things as he promised. Or maybe it's because the troubled economy has only gotten worse under his watch? Maybe it's because he has been proven a liar at every turn? Maybe it's because he has pursued a big gov't takeover & power grab even though his followers called people paranoid for seeing it coming? I don't know.
Let's see, what has Obama had to deal with in the past year and a half that he has been in office? The H1N1 outbreak, two wars (one the longest in U.S. history), The worst ecological oil spill disaster in U.S. history, and the worst economy since The Great Depression. What has he managed to do in spite of all these problems (all having there roots prior to him taking office)? Passed comprehesive health care reform (something presidents have been trying to do since Teddy Roosevelt), Passed sweeping financial reforms as well as credit card reforms to protect consumers, passed a stimulus package that has created 2 1/2 million jobs, nominated two supreme court justices (both women), and while dealing with the most obstructive opposition party in US history. If that is not a record of accomplishment in a year and a half, your going to have to demonstrate to me what Bush was able to accomplish in his first year and a half after being handed a budget surplus and a country not nearly as divided as he left it. Posts like these put you in a position of having to defend the an irrational claim especially since no one has offered any substantative reasons that the short-lived Obama presidency should be considered a "miserable failure" even in comparision to George W. Bush's term. Maybe if there had been any credible points made that could have been assessed it would have been possible to debate the issue but as usual, these posts are more emotive than rational.
I'd think that Abe Lincoln would take issue with that line. I agree the Republicans are being obstructionists, they're the "Party of No" for sure, but with a solid majority in both the House and Senate, there's no excuse whatsoever for not getting some of the simplest things done that Obama promised like ending "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" for example. As to your other points... H1N1....mountain out of a molehill comes to mind. The Wars....haven't seen much change there, is not making things worse an accomplishment? The Oil Spill..... Yea, he got right onto that and solved it in just 100 days of ruining the Gulf. Health Care?.... you got to be kidding, even the far left is suspicious of that one. Financial reforms?....until people start going to jail to pay for their crimes, we are no reformed. Creating Jobs?....yea, that's why the unemployment rate keeps going up, right? The Supreme Court Ladies.....nothing extraordinary there, rather mediocre is what I'd call them. I'm still waiting for my change.
The reason the filibuster threat works so well is because the minority can simply sit on it until they win the seats of power back thus paralyzing the legislative branch from accomplishing anything. Republicans would rather have no legislation than compromise on anything. It is sort of akin to being a unified group of asshats. The Democrats, not nearly as lock-step as the Republicans, need only to lose one vote to be unable to overcome a filibuster. With Independents and fake Democrats like Ben Nelson, a real majority is not possible. That is the stark reality of our legislative process where the minority can effectively block the will of the majority. Ain’t democracy great? As my list pointed out, almost any single one of the problems that this administration has had to deal with would have consumed the entire attention of just about any previous administration but added together, I have to give this administration the benefit of the doubt. You have your perspective and I have mine. It is far too early in this administration to make such a judgment as you have made and I am confident that history will bear out my perspective much more than yours.
Maybe if the Democrats could come up with some genuinely good legislation, they wouldn't have to worry so much about loosing votes.
You mean like all the "genuinely good legislation" that brought this country to the brink of economic collapse, a phony war kept off the books, 2 enormous tax cuts forced through with the reconciliation process, record gas prices, no job creation, on and on, in the previous 8 years? I seriously doubt the Democrats are going to propose anything similar to that any time soon BUT don't despair. If the Republicans are somehow able to gain enough seats in November and then win the White House in 2012, you'll get plenty more of that same legislation you seem to miss so much. If everything that the Republicans have voted against in the past year and a half doesn’t convince you that they are only interested in the top 2% of the economic ladder, nothing I can say will convince you either. It’s a shameful record of disregard for the middle class that by every single indicator has bore the brunt of this economy. But the wealthy aren’t content and just want to take more because 83% of the stocks owned by the upper most 1% of the country just isn’t enough for them. They are drunk on their own greed.
Dr Moe's arguments are no different than Toe's, just a bit better worded. To sum it up: He likes BO more than he likes Bush. Does that about sum it up Dr Moe? Oh yeah, H1N1 was Bush's fault now?
You mean if I wanted to change the subject, I'd talk about Charlie Rangel's ethics investigation, or Tom Delays, or any number of players from either side of the aisle that are really irrelevant to the policy issues we were discussing. I could do that I suppose, but I’ve just seen that tactic too many times to fall for it anymore. Let’s keep talking policy instead.
Well, Dr Moe, you're the one who always expalins away BO's shortcomings, lies, etc by claiming Bush was worse? What's the difference? Why is it so important to you to "stick to policy" on this particular issue Oh yeah, this Rangel ordeal is yet another example of hypocrisy from the radical left wing elites- protect your own! I guess it's okay for the elites to throw stones but in the face of undisputable evidence of criminal activity by one of their own they work to reach a "settlement". Think the guy will keep his job? His influence? His standing in the Democrat Party?
I do not think President Obama is a Miserable Failure...but he I do think he is headed down the right road for it.
It isn't easy to clean another rats ****. The man failed to clean up after the last and has dug himself in the whole.
