What are you dems doing? really? Nancy Pelosi is telling us that food stamps & perpetual unemployment benefits are the the key to recovery? http://www.examiner.com/american-po...d-unemployment-insurance-will-grow-us-economy I guess this is proof that the dems are not going to rest until they have everyone addicted to the gov't teet, huh? All the historical subsidies (welfare, rent, etc) have created a permanent under class and now they are reaching out for more victims?
Oh yeah, I just realized, permanent unemployment benefits are also the key plank in Alvine Greene's (DEMOCRAT) platform as he runs for a Senate seat in South Carolina...I guess it's no wonder as he has been on unemployment ever since he was booted out of the Army a couple of years ago. Maybe hs military service wasn't as meritorious as that of war hero Richard Blumenthal (DEMOCRAT), huh? Where do you dems get your candidates?
Gee do ya think your link is a little biased? Some could argue that what Gingrich said was a racist remark. He couldve said ''the party of'' a number of things.
Republicans drive the economy into the ground and then blame the Democrats for trying to help those affected by the situation they didn't create. I have to ask, do the jobs really exist for everyone looking for work? If not, should they just starve to death? If Democrats are the party of food stamps, the Republicans would have to be the party poverty creation. I can live with those two labels.
Repubs the party of poverty creation? Now that's funny- sounds like a tomc nugget! Poverty is the fuel the liberal elite needs to power it's agenda. Without the promise of handouts & the pessimisim the dems perpetuate they wouldn't have any followers. Is link is a bit biased? Perhaps but when Pelosi's exact quote, in context is that stupid how else would it come across?
I dont think any politician from either party created poverty. And very very few ever lived in poverty. But there is a town about 70 west of Vegas where about 70% of the people live on some sort of assistance. And about 85% are republicans. Or think they are. So the party of food stamps out there is cleary the GOP.
Mr Moen, please look at the amount of jobs created during the Reagan and Bush 43 administrations, and the revenue collected by the government. Dems took control of Congress in '06 and hell broke loose. Granted, W spent like a drunken sailor ( my daughter is a sailor, sorry dear , no insult intended ) and half caused this mess. You have to prove yourself intellectually honest and take part of the blame. The financial meltdown was an October suprise orchestrated by the left that went haywire.....Barney Frank and Chris Dodd escape blame? Cmon
What we have now is a classic Cloward and Pivens " collapse the system " and it is happening using Saul Alinski tactics.......You have embraced socialism already......go all the way and be honest with us. This is National Coming Out Week.......come out and declare yourself, you do not have to hide anymore, it has become fashionable.
I will say the same thing I always say when the "06 Democraticly controlled Congress" argument is made. Tell me specifically which bills were passed between '06 and '08 AND signed by Bush that created all this economic turmoil or as you put it "hell broke loose". Tell me specifically which ones you attribute this mess to. Blanket blame is a convenient talking point but facts uncover the truth. Now be specific Jack. You may have to do some research.
Mr Moen, lol, you have me scratching my head here, you are an excelent debater. Research is indeed in order I would love to play poker with you.
I love poker. I used to play with a group of USC professors in LA and they finally told me that if I didn't start losing once in a while, they stop inviting me. They were only kidding because I must have taught them a hundred new games while I was there. The trick they never figured out was that any time you are learning a new game, you are just less confident about the odds. All these bright guys never realized that the odds didn't change form one game to the next. I miss their $$$$! Anyway, don't break your back trying to figure out what exactly the Democrats did from '06-'08 to cause our current problems. No one has ever been able to answer that question and I have asked it a lot.
It still doesn't change the fact that dem leadership believes food stamps & endless unemployment benefits are the key to restoring prosperity!
LOL, Okay Mike McDermott. Anytime you want to tryout your poker skills, you can find me sitting in the $20/$40 Holdem game at the Borgata. I wouldn't mind taking your socialist money. BTW, Have you ever considered that the reason you can't find what they did was because it was something they didn't do?
I like playing poker with friends but I don't like casinos very much. I was in Las vegas this summer and stayed at one of the hotel casinos and never gambled the whole time. I don't like gambling very much unless it involves a good group of people that just play for fun and maybe a nickel, dime, quarter limit. Nobody is getting rich that way. Casinos are just voluntary taxes on stupid people in my opinion. What exactly is "Socialist money"? I thought it was just money. I hat to throw money away and gambling is just that. I do have some good news on the money front though. My wife just changed job titles at work. The new job comes with a $40,000 a year raise. Now why would we need to gamble?
I thought you said you only earned not more than 75K income annually, including all forms of income? You said 20/40 huh???? With the cost of living associated with that wonderful part of New Jersey? You're an even worse poker player than I thought.
The casino only takes a rake in poker. There is no house edge as your are competing against the other players at the table. I know many professional poker players who make a living playing poker in a casino. They may not be rich, but their skill allows them to beat the game, overcome the rake and other expenses, and make a decent living. My point is that although poker is a form of gambling, it does not automatically constitute throwing your money away as do the games against the casino and the house edge. You already stated that you like playing poker. But I don't consider it a poker game until the money matters. Playing nickel and dime stuff is like playing Scrabble, a way to pass the time. You don't need to gamble (play poker), and neither do I, but if you were to test your skills in a bigger game where the money actually means something, perhaps you would gain a different perspective on the game. The mental challenge of beating skilled players with a monetary payoff can't be duplicated by playing the game just for fun. If you don't believe me, just ask Jack. You should try it, sounds like you have the disposable income to do so! BTW, the "socialist money" thing was just a dig, lighten up would ya! Last year, that statement was correct. I did win over $10K playing poker (which is a bad year), but I also had some incidents on the casino floor in the Pai Gow pit that made that $10K evaporate. My invitation to Moen is open to all. Anytime you want to test your skills Tommyboy, you know where I will be.
I have nothing against gambling, I just find it boring but good friends and the bantering make it fun. We used to have great games in college that would last all night. We had a coke machine with beer in it and nobody really cared who won and who lost. It was the comradery that was the point. I see those poker games on TV and I get a chuckle out of how seriously they take the game. That's not for me. If I want to be skilled at something, I doubt it will ever be poker. A good time is when I've made 10 bucks last all night. I've been in more than a few games where people had to break out their checkbooks because they got carried away. It isn't hard to spot the addictive personalities in the group. They just have too much invested in winning. I seriously wanted to know what Socialist money was. I thought it was a term I just hadn't heard. Anyway, I have to get over to the O'Donnell thread. After her performance last night, she deserves my critique.
The games you see on TV are usually tournaments where there are millions of dollars at stake so it only stands to reason that they would take it seriously. The buy-in for the WSOP main event is $10K. You stated that you love poker. It sounds like the game is secondary and that you actually love the entertainment that a live poker game can afford a group of people. I will tell you that a full ring game at a casino is one of the most entertaining environments you will ever encounter. Typically, I know almost every player at the table by their first name. We have no problems taking each others money but do not harbor anger or hostility towards each other if we lose. On any given night, even the worst player can win. Over the long run, the good players will come out ahead financially. But it is important not to underestimate the social aspect of poker. You meet many interesting people and almost every night, something dramatic happens. You really should try it. It is a lot of fun!
